Beep Test

So I am about a month in to a fitness kick, it hasn’t been as intense or as strenuous as previous bouts of motivation I have had in the past but I am hoping this one stays around.   I have fallen off the face of the social media planet as of late, and that is something I really want to fix.  Within that time I have graduated, secured a dream job, and unfortunately, put back on a fair bit of weight and lost a lot of my fitness level.  I am however slowly fighting to regain that back.   I have been working out with friends and getting back into the swing of running for pleasure, and thought today would be a good time to do the beep test as a form of benchmarking where I am at, to then compare where I will be at in a months time.  It was tough.  Despite the rain, the slippery wet grass and how tired I was after a full day of work, I tried.  It would be a lie to say I tried my hardest, but I definitely tried.  While I only got a score of 7.2 in todays beep test, it is definitely a giant improvement from where I was as a teenager (barely managing a score of 4 or more when I had to do the beep test for school).  

I am a little frustrated with myself however.  Upon completing the beep test, I still had some energy left over, so I definitely could have pushed that little harder, achieved a slightly higher score.  It is progress however.  And any progress is good.

The thing about Russell Brand is, yes, he’s wild and funny and does some bonkers shit, but there’s this absolutely stone-cold intelligent side to him that not a lot of people know about. He’s very aware of and very well-educated about the issues people are facing today, and isn’t afraid to use his celebrity status to help raise awareness.

January First: A Sentence A Day

I received a fantastic Christmas gift from an amazing friend! The goal is to write a sentence a day following a prompt, to be done every day for three years as a means of introspection and self reflection.  So my blog may start filling up with my answers to these questions as well as elaborations.  Hope everyone is having a fantastic start to the New Year! 

January First

What is your New Years resolution? 

My New Years resolutions can be broken down into three categories; Fitness, Education, and Self.   My fitness goals are easy to write down and explain, they are a combination of vanity and achievement based.  While trying to place the focus away from the vanity, I believe everyone deserves to be a little vain at times.  My fitness goals are to run a half marathon by the end of the year, to get down to under 75kg (preferably sit comfortably at 72kg, which is a comfortable weight for my height), and to see the start of a sixpack by the end of the year.  It's not that I am unhappy with my body or where my fitness levels are at that I set these resolutions, but after seeing sickness within the extended family due to easily changeable factors such as fitness and lifestyle, I believe it is a great thing to work towards, so long as I don't go backwards, I don't mind if I achieve these resolutions or not.   The goals that I do wish to achieve however are to do with my self and education.  I am so incredibly passionate about teaching and I want to use the time I currently have while not holding a full time job to volunteer and get as much experience as possible within the education industry.  I want to volunteer for at least 3 education related causes, the main ideas involve debating adjudicating, facilitating for an education initiative I have volunteered for as well, and getting involved with the MS Readathon this year.  I think volunteering is absolutely fantastic, and I am so happy that there are many causes I can volunteer my time and presence for within my passion.  

There are many self resolutions that I have made, but the one I am most comfortable sharing is to make a conscious effort to stay in touch with family and friends within the new year.  I often find long chunks of time passing before I message friends or family, and yet these are the people who have helped and supported me in getting to where I am today, and they deserve all the recognition and gratitude for that!
