Tulip time at Butchart Gardens, Victoria.
For years people have told me I'd love Victoria, BC. "It's like being in London!" they'd say. I believed them . . . but that was before I visited London myself. Victoria is beautiful in its own right. It's uniquely northwest, like Vancouver, BC, or Seattle. It does have lots of British influences in architecture and I really enjoyed this aspect.
My day trip to Victoria coincided with tulip time at Butchart Gardens (which is obvious from my photos).
Sometimes the most ordinary things can be made extraordinary by doing them with the right people.

We met a poet (Till Gwinn), a veteran (Clarence), and lots of creative, smart, funny people today. Till, a keen observer of people, wrote a poem that was eerily "right on," ans I felt strangely "known" by stranger. We happened upon Clarence (or rather he on us), a 71 year old veteran and a man who's clearly lived hard. He was a pleasure to talk with as we all admired the old world beauty of the Wells Fargo building across from our hotel in downtown Portland. The oddest moments were 1) getting caught up in a very adult Easter bunny parade complete with men and women wearing risqué rabbit costumes and marching around pushing a DJ on a platform; 2) watching a (possibly?) bachelor party dressed in golfing "bloomers" walking down 6th Ave. (nowhere near a golf course); 3) dining in a nice restaurant where every time I looked up towards my husband I spied amply well endowed mannequins sporting pasties and lingerie in the windows of the shop across the street.

Lovely weekend getaway to Portland. A beautiful warm spring day. Good company. Few expectations other than hoping for some opportune photos opps. Today did not disappoint.
It was such a pleasure happening upon Till Gwinn, the poet I'd read about in. Recent blogpost (wish I could remember where). I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have him write/type me a poet. If you ever meet up with Till, in a Portland park or a Seattle poetry slam, introduce yourself and commission a poem. He's an astute observer of people...
I met Till Gwinn, itinerant poet, in a park in the Pearl District (Portland). He wrote me a beautiful poem… #PDX #Portland #iambnothing
