hajime was a little startled. he hadn't thought in the slightest that dae would ever be seen again, let alone here. he wanted to immediately hear an explanation but eventually calmed at the realization that hajime was the one who owed an explanation. dae wasn't doing anything wrong. "i wasn't trying to escape you." he floundered. hajime considered leaving, but instead felt his feet move to follow dae anyway. "what brings you out here?" he asked them.

dae knew that was a lie. the trouble was that he didn't understand why hajime had left. and it wasn't for lack of trying. they'd wracked their brain over and over again. hajime had known about the kind of business dae was involved in, so it wasn't that. maybe they'd done something wrong? they couldn't figure it out. but they wanted answers. and they wanted hajime back in their life, in whatever capacity that may look like. they would get to that later, perhaps when they were alone. "i think it's the anniversary of the bar, right? i never could resist a good party," he said, tongue in cheek, knowing that wasn't what hajime meant, but playing the part anyway.

kit hesitated in the edge of the room , a true wallflower , caught halfway between stepping out and stepping in . but the pull of laughter , the sense of community , and the loneliness in his chest tugged at something in kit , something that felt like the desire to be brave for once . to put himself out there and socialize , but he hadn’t worked up that courage just yet . a soft gasp fell from his lips when he was stirred from his thoughts by a body bumping into him . he frantically apologized , taking full responsibility for the collision , “ o-oh , i’m so sorry . ” his words trembled as his gaze found the other’s. “ m-my drink is fine , ” he offered a soft smile , “ besides , it’s only a diet coke so they skipped it to me , uhm , free of charge . “ kit’s eyes widened and he worried if he should have shared that information , so he quickly chose to change the topic of his own drink . “ is your drink alright ? are…are you alright ? ”

dae smiled comfortingly, reaching out and touching kit's arm gently to steady him and reassure him that it was okay. "don't worry. it was all me," he said, that same smile unwavering. "diet coke or not, i could get you a new one if i spilled it. and maybe some napkins to help clean up any mess i made," he added. "seems like i didn't spill though," he said, glancing down and then up again. "my drink is alright, and i'm just fine. great, even. i love meeting new people. my name is dae. what's yours?"

A quiet hum of amusement slipped from her chest, not quite a laugh, but the kind of sound that softened her otherwise steady exterior. She shifted her glass between her hands as she tilted her head. ❝I’d say you’re not the only one, but you wear it on your sleeve a little more than most,❞ she murmured, tone light but edged with that dry warmth that kept it from being a jab. ❝Roseton has a way of making newcomers feel like they walked in halfway through a story,❞ she added, voice low. Another sip of her drink gave her a moment’s pause before she leaned in just slightly, enough to be heard over the noise of bustling party-goers. ❝So what brought you out and about tonight? Sudden brave streak, or just hoping to party like it's 1999?❞ She paused briefly, trying to determine if her joking reference had even been accurate before offering a firm nod to herself in confirmation.

Dae wasn't sure how to feel about that. He didn't think most of the people he knew back home would have said he wore anything on his sleeve. Maybe the unfamiliarity of it all was making him more vulnerable. Perhaps that was the part he wasn't sure how to feel about. It felt almost embarrassing, like he was showing something he didn't want to be. But he tried not to let it bother him. "Is that a good thing?" they asked lightly, a warm smile on their lips. They let out a soft laugh. "Is that so? Not just me then," they added. Small towns had never really been Dae's thing, but here they were anyway. Dae laughed softly. The idea of him needing a brave streak was amusing to him. But he rolled with it. "I guess so. Just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. What about you?"

this was a nice party. the fun was more in talking to people than it was anything else. but he was getting tired. when he felt someone bump into him, his drink splashed on his shoes, but it was nothing severe. he glanced up to say it was fine when he realized who he was talking to. it wasn't as if hajime had thought that he would get away scot free. but he had believed that it would be a while before the past caught up to him. he cleared his throat and then thought about leaving, but was caught in the crowded room. "dae, is that you?"

while dae had obviously followed hajime to this small town, he hadn't expected it would be so easy to bump into him — literally. dae debated grabbing his wrist, as if he would literally disappear if they didn't, but they decided that wasn't necessary. "didn't think you'd escape me that easy, did you?" they teased, taking a sip of their drink. "let me get you a new one," they said. "come with me," they added. admittedly, he was a little worried that if he turned his back, hajime would disappear.

The light jostle had her glancing down at the glass in her hand, but the liquid inside barely shifted, not even close to a disaster. Naomi gave a small shake of her free hand, dismissing the concern before it could grow legs. ❝No worries, it’s just liquid,❞ she said evenly, her tone carrying that calm assurance of someone who wasn’t quick to rile. Dark eyes lifted back to his with a steadiness that softened at the edges. ❝Are you alright? You look a little lost.❞

Dae glanced at the drink in her hand, relieved it hadn't spilled. He would have been happy to replace it, but this was for the best. He would have felt bad if it had spilled onto her pretty clothes. "And it seems like none of it got you. What a relief," he grinned. He laughed a little at the way she seemed to measure him up pretty quickly. "You've got a sharp eye. I've never been here before. Guess I look as lost as I feel."

ruth loved a party. it didn't matter what the occasion was, she could take any excuse to put on a bright dress and get out of her house. tonight the whole town promised to turn out, and she wouldn't miss it for the world.

"well come on," she looked over at the person on the stool next to her, a smile bright across her face. so long as the energy was high, she was going to do her best to keep it that way. "you can't dance the night away if you don't start!"

lori had just gotten to the party and was on her first drink when someone next to her suddenly spoke with a smile. lori blinked a few times, figuring out that she was talking to her, before she grinned and nodded.

"yeah, alright. i like your spirit," lori said, standing up and offering her hand to the person next to her. "let's go dance!" she agreed. she finished her drink and set the glass down, ready to get started on dancing the night away.

dae was usually not one to attend parties, but he had a couple of reasons to go this time. first, of course, was that he hadn't really met anyone in town, and he needed to fix that. second, he wanted to see what all the fuss was about. maybe it was a nice bar. he owned a club back home in chicago, but he'd never owned a bar. third, he didn't know what kind of parties roseton had, and he wanted to see what they were like. he got himself a drink and kept to himself for the most part until he accidentally bumped into someone. "oh, i'm sorry. did i spill your drink? i can get you a new one," he offered.
