there's a reason people talk about elliot page coming out more than they talk about the latest transphobic hate group in britain. there's a reason people talk about how to spot and avoid antisemitic memes more than they talk about your list of hate crimes committed on hannukah. its not because they don't care about those issues, it's because humans literally aren't equipped to handle the sheer amount of horror we're subjected to every day. don't guilt people for that.

Our lives are hard enough. This year has been hard enough. Don't tell people they need to focus on every past and present hate crime that's ever been committed. Don't tell people that talking about Elliot Page more than trans murder is a bad thing. Don't tell people that not focusing on the hate crimes centered around Hannukah is a bad thing.

Yes, hate crimes and hate groups need to be advocated against but if all you're doing is focusing on the bad and dismissing whatever good you see because "that doesn't mean hate has been eradicated" then honestly fuck you. We deserve good news. We deserve to be happy. We deserve to support people and have good holidays and breathe some goddamn fresh air for once.

Don't guilt trip people for trying to squeeze some happiness out of their lives and try to be optimistic, or at the very least trying to not fall into a pit of despair.
