just thinkign about how merlin’s magic reveal was such a momentous occasion. all that tension and angst built up over 5 seasons, culminating in this one immense revelation. and they chose to do it so calmly, sincerely, intimately. he didn’t need to tell arthur in that moment, really, anymore than he needed to before. it was just the thought that arthur could very really die, and merlin didn’t want to lose him without arthur really knowing everything about him

and arthur didn’t get angry. i feel like it’s become this fandom-wide hc that arthur immediately gets angry as soon as merlin tells him, but that didn’t happen in the show, and im so glad for it. he was hurt, betrayed, confused, in disbelief, yes, and he reacted – well, he reacted as his prior actions and words dictated he would. it hurt, but it was no surprise that he wouldn’t immediately embrace it

but the way he looked as though he didn’t want to believe his own eyes and ears, the desperate attempt to use humour and their old give-and-take to calm a visibly crying merlin down (even though arthur was the one who had been mortally wounded!) – it was all so much more mature and nuanced than I was hoping for. the show had a tendency to slip back into silly jokes and old dynamics in a poor, lazy attempt to lessen the tension, even as far as in s5, but this, at least, was done well. so so well.

we saw growth in both merlin and arthur. not perfection, but growth, and the possibility for continued future growth, which perhaps hurt all the more because time was up and we would never see that come to happy fruition

I saw you like sapphic fiction and Taylor Swift and I've just gotta ask you: have you heard of Burn the House Down by Kenna Jenkins? It's an alternate history novel abt the 1st woman president and her secret sapphic relationship/bearded marriage with her mlm best friend and has massive Taylor Swift vibes (especially anti hero, last great American dynasty, gold rush, illicit affairs, I Did Something Bad, and champagne problems). It also has a subplot about arson at the White House and ft. An entirely queer main cast and really fleshed out characters!

This is quite an interest marketing technique that I quite frankly haven’t seen before, but props to you!! Hope all goes well and the book finds its audience of super fans, sounds lovely!
