Boulder Colorado Author Carter Wilson receives wicked book cake at novel launch wine party in his honor

Boulder, CO - Colorado writer Carter Wilson stabbed his novel literary to death. This past weekend Aji Latin American Restaurant hosted the launch party for Wilson’s new novel FINAL CROSSING. Trina Cakes Bakery created the triple layered chocolate cake and chocolate coffin spike into thebooks.

“This book is so damn good you'll want to eat it!” Sherri Blue of Trina Cakes Bakery joked.

FINAL CROSSING (June 2012, Vantage Point) is the story of a senatorial chief of staff who teams up with a beautiful psychic criminologist to hunt down a serial killer who thinks God has commissioned him to start the Final Judgment. Vantage Point published the novel this month. The book is available everywhere books are sold in Colorado and nationwide.

Why Publicists Work after Midnight

I would love to say that I would post about my life as a book publicist in this timeline, but I get so busy I forget to share. Since it will be a long night for me, I'll share one thing.

My day usually begins after midnight. Not just because the house is quiet, but this is the best time to pitch the media and I read the news feeds coming down to see if any of my clients can be sources or if their books can be segued into the latest breaking news. Sometimes radio show producers contact me in the wee hours because of a last minute cancellation or they are working their shows before their morning meeting. So I work on my press releases that I will pitch, then set my alarm for 4ish to push them out to my media clients who welcome them and respond to any after hour texts. I never blind pitch. Never. That is a waste of time.

Why we're worth our salt is because our job is about building relationships for our clients. It takes a while and it takes a lot of late night patty caking with the media, event managers, and the entertainment news community. I am driven to leverage our clients names. It is a passion. Got nothing to do with catching a pumpkin.

There are a lot of books, both print and digital that aren’t readable. I’m not talking about the kind of story that may not be your cup of tea. I’m talking about unstories. An UnStory is a book that is poorly written, full of backstory, and goes nowhere. There are tons of them available to download online for as little as 99 cents. But that cheap read will cost you more than you bargained for.

The Journey of a Thousand Pages

I guess if I should talk about writing I should start at the beginning. But what is the beginning? Is it that January morning when I excused myself from my meeting to answer the first ever phone call from my would-be-editor? Or was it several years earlier when I sat in a cubicle working my dead end job and decided to start writing for real so I would have something sensible going on in my life. Those were beginnings of sorts. But I think the real beginning was with a girl named Simone, a boring Geography class, and a $1.25 notebook.
