Day 12: A Character from the current season -> Byakuya Kuchiki (Bleach)

While that was the truth it didn’t change the fact that sometimes his face did have a slight tick up of emotion. “It’s subtle but it’s there.” Waves a hand dismissing that portion of their conversation. He himself couldn’t let the other’s insults really slide either but he quieted down still looking a tad upset with his furrowed brows. He felt tension in the air while silence seemed to stretch on. “Yes I have eight knives. You never know when an enemy might pop up, and you never know what power they might have. Senbonzakura sided with another zanpakuto named Muramasa who by the way … remember Uncle Kōga at all? Then a man with the ability to insert himself into people’s pasts knew all my attacks, and a sternritter stole my bankai. Excuse me for being a little paranoid but I like to be prepared.” He shrugs. “I mean there is kido as well but that requires timing and a speech for certain attacks and it can get really messy if the enemy decides they don’t want to listen to the spell. Many things can go wrong.” He looks away. “Of course I could always die before I pull out a knife. Forgive me if I’m ready for our power to turn against me again and join someone else to fight me.” He smiles sadly, and looks back at this other him who is so different. “ Maybe I should accept that I’m probably going to die by his hand.”

"I cannot say one way or another if I know of Koga Kuchiki, since we're not sure if the abridged is going to acknowledge the filler arcs yet." Wait, where'd that come from? He shakes his head, deciding not to think about it.

"You are correct, it is imperative to be prepared for any situation, including the loss or hinderance of our Zanpakuto. It certainly is a shame that EIGHT KNIVES is the best back-up plan either one of us has in such an event. Yes, there's truly no other skills we know that can surpass EIGHT KNIVES. It's certainly not like we can shoot lightning from out fingertips, or blue fire, a massive explodey ball of fire, or render foes immobile with beams of light, or render foes immobile with glowing poles, or drop large blocks from the sky, or block most magic-based skills with a large shield, or launch a black coffin that pierces a foe from all angles."

He takes a large breath.

"-- No, you're correct. EIGHT KNIVES is clearly the superior 'back-up plan.'"
