Hot take: guys, I think we’ve hit that wall. This is the first time I was consistently cringing at the script. So much telling, so little showing. This is going to be a rant.

Sage is dumber than the median character in The Boys. I guess the point is that her sociopathy prevented her from predicting behaviors correctly, but wasn’t that her whole schtick in s4, understanding people both collectively and individually very quickly? Why the hell would she think an obvious setup with a laptop would get SB and HL to hate each other…? Given SB’s sexual liberalism and HL’s quirks, I’m honestly surprised they didn’t sit down and start masturbating to the video together. 🙄 Why did she need Ashley to mindread SB at all.

That’s probably my biggest gripe. Sage’s goal was fucking dumb, her plan to get to the goal was dumber, and her execution was dumbest.

That said, Soldier Boy’s feelings and motivations are barely coherent. I cringed hard at “this is what Clara would have wanted” , “she hadn’t met you yet”. Why the sudden turn? From hating HL enough to want him to die, to “he’s my fucking weirdo”, to “you’re the best of humanity and you deserve to live forever” in 3 fucking episodes? And from thinking he kept her locked up as an invalid to “this is what she would have wanted” in less than one episode with nothing transpiring in between? I’d much rather Soldier Boy gave Homelander V1 out of pity or nihilism or grudging nepotism or to spite Sage for her dumb smugness than… whatever the fuck that was supposed to be. Admiration…? Sudden drinking of HL’s self aggrandizing koolaid? What happened here.

If that’s supposed to entice me about Vought Rising, it certainly didn’t. What a disaster. Bombsight’s actor made me feel like I was watching Gen V again.

Best thing by far about this episode was the Legend and Homelander’s scene. And him calling Homelander bubelah, sorry, I completely lost it at that lol.
