rereading caleb's bond story, i can't help but thinking that maybe he didn't lock her in the attic for some kid's banter and fight with other people their age.

he seems genuinely confused when he hears about that and, once he realise what she's talking about, he acts awkwardly and neither admits or denies what happened. he's purposefully vague and his voice is a little higher than usual when he says "oh yeah! i forgot that even happened!" (which is suspicious as hell since he remembers everything related to MC) while itching his face and immediately changes topics to talk about the weather.

caleb is a good manipulator and amazing at persuasion, but i don't personally think he'd be a good liar—at least not when it involves MC.

it's also a canon that most people actually adored caleb during school days as far as i'm concerned so it's a bit suspicious to know that there were bullies willing to appear at his doorstep for a fight. still, his anger when saying "you'd be safe at least, and not anywhere near them" seems too deep for a kid's fight.

my personal take is that he would've locked her to avoid her seeing something (or someone) specific, but is really hard to find other people thinking something similar :/
