imagine getting flustered while exploring his body, hands that used to be roaming over his exposed skin retracting back into yourself.
kaeya tuts as he hovers over you, flashing you a sly grin. however, the eyepatch laying discarded on the wooden floor by your shared bed allows you to see all the genuine love behind his heterochromatic eyes.
the sight only serves to fluster you further and so you hide behind the cover of your arm, lifting it up to cover your face.
it doesn’t remain there for long before slender fingers grasp your wrist, kissing the inside of it, before fully tugging them away from yourself.
“that simply won’t do, dove,” kaeya mumbles against the skin of your palm.
“you wouldn’t deny me the pleasure of gazing at my darling’s face now, would you?”
his breath is warm as it flits over your sensitive skin, washing over you like a blanket of nothing but him.
nimble fingers guide your hand to his chest and you find that your hand sits right at the place above where his heart is. it thumps rhythmically below your palm to the beat of your own.
noticing how your attention was drawn to where he intended it to be, kaeya leans down to kiss your hairline before resting his forehead against yours.
“there’s no need to be shy,” he purrs.
“this,” he nods to his bare body straying only a few inches from your own, “is all yours. there’s no need to be shy.” kaeya whispers reassuringly.
though you’d like to remain with your foreheads touching a little longer, you decide to press thankful kisses along the exposed column of his neck in a show of gratitude. his scent is overwhelming and you find yourself intoxicated by it.
you’ve all but lost your ability to speak at this point but kaeya knew you well enough to decipher your actions. he moans breathily in response to the lovely sensations dancing lower and lower down his neck.
wanting to reciprocate his affections, kaeya pulls his neck away from you, much to your dismay. he watches as you pout from below him and chuckles, bemused. just as you were about to bury yourself back into his warmth, kaeya leans his head down until his lips hover over your pulse.
he waits for a moment longer until he hears your whines of impatience, smiling at your eagerness, and finally places the first kiss of many to your neck.
his teeth nip playfully across your sensitive skin and he feels the way you shiver underneath him. it seems that he quite likes your responsiveness and decides to delve lower, licking a stripe down to your collarbone. you shiver more.
kaeya loves the way you grip onto him like a vice. like he’s the only thing keeping you stable. his lips continue to press onto you, tongue continues to lave over you, teeth continue to tug at your skin, and it takes all that you have to not whimper at his ministrations.
the final straw, however, was the low moan he lets bubble out of his mouth and onto your collarbone. it reverberates softly across your body and, as kaeya had hoped, you moan with him.
he smiles, lips tugging up at the corners. kaeya makes a promise to you there and then, vowing;
“i am yours for as long as you want me.”
why did he always have to make things so hard for you?

“hold still, dove. just a little bit more,” kaeya mutters softly as he holds your injured arm in a grip so gentle that you could barely register the feel of his touch.
“kaeya…” you begin hesitantly, gaze worriedly focused on the very obvious gash on the man’s torso.
a shaky hand hovers over his injury in a natural response of worry but kaeya catches it with his free one before you could touch his irritated skin.
“ah, ah,” he tutted, intertwining your shaky fingers before placing a kiss to the back of your palm. “let me tend to you first, please.”
a protest was ready to leave your lips but one steely look from kaeya had all but taken that protest and crushed it. at your resignation, he pressed a few more kisses to the tips of your fingers as a way to show his thanks.
attempting to reason again you voice, “but your wound…”
but he only smiles at you. you can tell it was meant to be one of reassurance, but it did little to placate the worry in your heart.
kaeya’s next method of procedure was taking out a familiar vial containing a disinfectant and you visibly winced at the thought of having alcohol doused on your open gashes.
deft fingers are quick to run themselves over the skin surrounding your cut but before you could warn him to be gentle with his actions, his head snapped up as he looked behind you, a sudden panic written on his once-calm face.
“behind you!” kaeya yells in alarm.
now panicked yourself, you whipped around to try and locate the source of his fear.
“where—?!” you yelp, but something else caught your attention. “OWW!”
not even a second after you turned your back to him, your skin was quick to register the familiar and intense burning of alcohol. a pained hiss escapes your clenched teeth as you whip back round to find kaeya snickering mischievously. you shoot him a look of accusation but he only stuck his tongue out in response.
“you didn’t have to scare me, you know! i nearly had a heart attack!” you whine in exasperation.
it only serves to make kaeya chuckle more. “apologies, i just wanted to distract you from the pain,” he counters smoothly.
“you asshole…”
the cavalry captain makes up for his little scheme by gently pecking at your dressed wounds, soothing a balm over them for better healing.
you’ll forgive him this time, you decide.
the next few moments pass by with relative quiet, save for the chirping of crickets and rustling of leaves in the trees.
this wasn’t how tonight was supposed to go at all. the two of you should’ve been home right now, in bed and tucked snugly in each other’s arms; under the blankets where you could coexist in a world created by your two slumbering souls.
you shouldn’t have been sitting on a log wincing as alcohol was dabbed onto your gashes. you shouldn’t have had to hear kaeya’s laboured breathing as he patches you up with silken bandages, prioritising your safety over his own; even when he was the one who so evidently needed help. when he was the one colouring the grass below you in a deep red.
and he shouldn’t have had to brush away the tears of regret, of self-blame, slipping down your tear-stricken face.
the crackling of fire coupled with monstrous grunts filled your senses as waves of hilichurls and mitachurls alike surrounded you: on your far left you noted an electro and pyro archer. to your right was a pyro-infused hilichurl and to your centre was an axe mitachurl running straight towards you.
not the best situation to be in, your surmised.
it would be wise to dispatch of the archers first, lest you get hit with a strong wave of overload.
you didn’t wanna meet your creators too soon.
just behind you was kaeya doing his best to finish off his own wave of enemies.
not wanting to endanger him with your company, you dashed towards the archers and made quick work of them with your pole-arm, soon sprinting towards the pyro hilichurl and doing the same. the mitachurl naturally proved to be tougher to take down, thanks to its much bulkier frame, but all it took was a few precise jabs to finish it.
they weren’t exactly the most intelligent of creatures.
turning back around to look at kaeya, and ready to offer assistance if he so needed it, you found that he had just finished his own fight.
you grinned at him.
“nice one, captain! let’s head back so that we—”
kaeya wasn’t grinning back.
what the man could see, and what you unfortunately couldn’t, was a pyro abyss mage sneaking it’s way behind you, ready to cast sickening flames straight to your exposed back.
but before the ball of fire could come close to touching your body, kaeya instinctively shoved you to the side and threw himself in front of you, taking the blow himself.
unable to keep up with the sudden change in events, a loud grunt alerted you to your lover doubling over in pain.
“kaeya!”
the aforementioned captain had already finished off the mage and it’s body started disintegrating not too far away. instantly you rushed to his side before he could fall onto the unforgiving ground, grunting at the man’s weight.
a faint touch to your cheek took you back to the present. the first thing you saw was kaeya’s worried expression, brows furrowed and lips set in a thin, downturned line.
his mouth parted as if he was about to say something but you beat him to it. “take off your shirt,” you pleaded, trying to sound as commanding as possible.
kaeya chuckled breathily below you, bemused, as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
“my, how bold of you. at least take me out to dinner first before demanding something so scandalous, hmm?” he teases with his infamous smirk.
you’d smack him if it wasn’t for the pain he was already clearly in. the audacity of this man, you swore to yourself.
but kaeya could sense how anxious you were and so he obliged, careful not to irritate his wounds further. you didn’t miss the grimace marring his features and thus you took it upon yourself to rid the many layers of his attire.
kaeya will always be kaeya, however…
“oh? getting handsy now, are w— okay, okay! i’m sorry!” he yelped at the onslaught of flicks you sent to his forehead.
“who knew that my little love could be so cruel…” kaeya continued to sulk, but it was all in lighthearted nature.
you huffed in faux annoyance.
though you weren’t well-versed in the arts of healing you were grateful for the hydro vision that hung dutifully at your hip. once you put kaeya in a more comfortable position on your lap, you summoned forth the power of hydro and applied a cooling calm to his burn.
you were rewarded with his smooth sighs of relief.
shaky hands ran their way up and down his midriff in slow motions in an attempt to at least remedy the burns on his torso. it seemed to be working, at least. soon enough his skin was less raw and red, and the burns looked less grisly as they did moments prior.
you could worry about the more dire injuries once you rush him to the cathedral. the sisters there could do a much better job than you could.
but you had to hand it to yourself; you were doing pretty well not getting distracted by his undeniably glorious body. years of rigorous training seemed to have pulled off and kaeya was rewarded with a form that looked like he was sculpted by celestia themselves.
“if you continue to ogle at me like that any longer, i fear i might just pass away from blood loss,” the bluenette purrs.
the little shit!
your eye twitches as you fight to suppress the heat rising to your cheeks and kaeya all but titters at you from his place on your lap.
“your wounds have already closed, idiot,” you mutter as irked as you can but it only comes off as adorable to the man beneath you.
how endearing, kaeya thinks.
“flustered is a good look on you, sweetheart. you should wear it more,” he coos.
if the ground suddenly opened up from below you and swallowed you whole, you wouldn’t exactly complain.
“you’re impossible!” you yell into the night as you assault him with pitiful smacks to his exposed chest.
his breathy laughter soon joins your embarrassed cries and the midnight air is filled with the symphony of the love you both harbour for each other.
you were a deadly duo on the battlefield, the two of you. a team so in-sync that enemies had a lot of trouble breaking out from your seemingly permanent freeze.
though, if kaeya were to be honest…
he might as well be one of the so-called enemies affected by you, for every action of yours seems to render him useless on the spot, leaving him unable to think of anything but you.
i’ll turn these ideas into lil hcs/mini fics cause i got it as a req but just imagine:
you get hurt by some fool and this is how some genshin boys would react:
diluc would see red and make a beeline towards you. his face is all but calm; a deep frown is mars his face and the glare he sends the man who dared to lay his hands on you is fatal. what’s most frightening, however, is the infamous black and red claymore materialising in his hands.
your attacker is visibly shaken.
“o-oh yeah? what’cha gonna do, pretty boy?”
“don’t ask questions you don’t want answers to.”

zhongli looks absolutely menacing, the usual peaceful expression on his face replaced with seething anger. it’s only a mild difference but it’s enough to frighten your attacker nonetheless. if your head wasn’t currently under someone’s boot you’d be able to see how his golden pools of amber house slits for pupils.
and was it just you, or did the pressure in the atmosphere become… heavier? more suffocating?
the man backs away as you sit up and gasp for air.
“look away, dearest. this could become… rather unsightly.”
kaeya wears the same catty smile but his eyes, you barely notice, are sharp as daggers. sharp as the loyal sword strapped to his hip. if your vision wasn’t so blurred from being suspended and choked in the air for so long, you’d be able to make out the cloud of frost emitting out from kaeya’s being.
was that the cause of the sudden drop in temperature?
“my, my… causing discord within the streets of mondstadt? i’d keep my hands to myself if i were you. unless, of course… you have no need for them?

sometimes you hated the icy hell that was snezhnaya. the monotonous white of the landscape only served to bore your mind and the constant chills running up your body did nothing to help your already sour mood. at some point you had resorted to playing with your pyro vision, absentmindedly toying with a small flame in the palm of your hand, purely for some form of entertainment.
yes, you concluded. you absolutely did not want to be here. especially not with this imbecilic ginger.
“i can hear you grumbling, you know.”

“yeah, no shit. i’m right behind you.”
the man who you now refer to as childe, rather than ajax, heaves a particularly heavy sigh as the pair of you continue to trudge through your home country.
you’d curse celestia for your circumstances if it wasn’t for the the fact that you knew exactly whose doing this was.
your archon thought it a good idea to pair the two of you on a mission to retrieve a stolen artefact but there were several issues with this;
first of all, you had no idea why something as menial as fetching some toy concerned the attention of a harbinger. surely this could’ve been left to the lower ranks? but most importantly, you were even more baffled as to why she had to pair him with you of all people. while it’s true that you were an accomplished healer, that didn’t mean there weren’t any others with twice your experience.
you’d ponder these questions with more scrutiny but you’d be damned if you spent more time dwelling on your situation if it meant you had to stay with the ginger for even a split second longer.
archons, just looking at him and his stupidly long legs carrying him through the snow is giving you a headache… same with the way they seem to accentuate his annoyingly tall figure. and his rather broad shoulders that supported his head of soft hair. and the way that his jaw clenches beautifully in concentra—

“—n we can make a fire in the shelter over there.”
ah… you’re being spoken to.
“h-huh?”
childe stops in front of you suddenly, shooting you a look of confusion and you nearly bump into the body you were just fawning over. you had to shake your head quickly in order to get rid of the thoughts manifesting in your mind.
“have you listened to anything i’ve just said?” he questions, daring you to answer with those bottomless azure eyes.
you blink. focus, you simpleton!
“of course i have,” you reply dumbly.
much to your irksome, a gloved hand sits cockily at his left hip. “great! mind leading the way, then?”
a tease.
you’ve played this game with him many times before but you’re certain you don’t want him to find any amusement this time.
it’s no use, though. you unknowingly entertain him anyway.
your legs are quick to take you in a direction that wasn’t even close to what childe had suggested a few seconds ago. you were headed the exact opposite way, in fact.
a smirk slowly makes its way onto his face but you’ve already marched ahead of him, too far away to notice. childe huffs, full of mirth, before he decides to follow close behind you.
being forced into a situation with him like this… well, you couldn’t help but wonder where it all went wrong. you might have been the one to sever your relationship but as soon as the wave of anger resided you found yourself wishing you didn’t. celestia knows how much you’ve tried to distract yourself from the pain, and admittedly you were doing pretty well. that was until now, at least.
memories of arguments resurfaced as you willed yourself to remain unresponsive. if the both of you were less frustrated in the moment, would the two of you still be together? or were the reasons of your breakup too glaring to dismiss?
after all, staying up for nights on end wondering whether or not your partner was even alive wasn’t exactly ideal for your mental health. neither was having to lecture him after dressing many of the unsightly wounds he’d regularly come home with. you could only cope with the stress for so long.
but you couldn’t help but miss him.
the pair of you had wandered for another half hour or so when the situation seemed to take a turn for the worse, the telltale signs of a snowstorm beginning to fester in the skies above. this wasn’t good. you’d both be dead if you were caught in a snowstorm, pyro vision or not.
willing the flame to grow larger in your hand, you looked around for anything that could be used to protect yourselves from the oncoming storm when childe suddenly gathers you into his arms without warning.
“h-hey! what do you think you’re doing?!” you yelp in shock as you flail about in his arms.
“saving our lives,” he quips not even a second after.
shaky arms are quick to instinctively wrap themselves around childe’s neck in order to prevent yourself from falling. he subconsciously responds by holding you closer to him, both as if to prevent you from slipping and to shield you from the bitter cold.
you’re too caught up in panic to notice the quickening beat of his heart.
soon enough, childe manages to find a small crack within a nearby cliff and he swiftly manoeuvres inside with you still in his hold. he shuffles so that his back is pressed to the back of the cave, trying his hardest to keep the both of you as far from the entrance as possible. he slides down into a sitting position and moves you so that you were sitting sideways in his lap- your head resting on his shoulder.
you sit in silence for the next few moments with only the howling of the wind to keep yourselves company. being outside in the frigid cold for so long had sapped your energy and you were about to fall asleep there and then when you felt your companion start to tremble. it was normal to shiver in these conditions but the way his body started to violently shake had alerted you from near slumber.
untucking your head from his neck you looked up at him with furrowed brows, “childe?”
“ ‘s fine,” he grits out through chattering teeth. “don’t worry about it.”
your frown grows. it’s easy to see how the moisture in his eyelashes have caused them to clump together due to the sheer temperature, and it’s even easier to feel how intense his shivers are.
this won’t do.
quickly shrugging off your scarf you begin to wrap it around his neck when his hand catches your wrist.
“i said it’s fine,” he protests, increasing the pressure of his grip.
but you stand firm, “i’m not playing around, you fool.”
“and neither am i, so keep your sca—”
…why was he always so stubborn?
you don’t give him time to finish his rebuke as you quickly wrap the article of clothing around his neck. too worried to care about your proximity, your face inches closer to his to ensure that none of the skin of his neck could meet with the bitter cold.
his breath hitches, caught in his throat, but you don’t acknowledge it.
“i won’t have you dying cause of hypothermia, you brat. just listen to me for once. please,” you whisper the last bit out shakily.
you hate how your voice wavers.
thankfully he relents under your insistence and instead settles back into the wall, tentatively rewrapping his arms around your shoulders.
you can’t bear to look at his face for prolonged periods of time and so you bury your own back into his neck, cushioned by the soft scarf you had just successfully swaddled him in.
there’s nothing for you to make a consistent fire out of and so you resort to heightening your body temperature in the hopes of keeping the both of you warm. you hate this. you should hate this, but you find that you can’t help but nuzzle into him no matter what you beg yourself to do.
but it’s not like he’s pushing you away, either.
silence passes between you once more but the air is much thicker than last time. it’s suffocating; threatening to consume you whole. maybe you’ve crossed the line this time, overstepped your unspoken boundaries.
“you’re doing it again.” childe comments, breaking the tension.
with hesitance clearly on your visage, you look up towards his face.
“stop chewing on your cheeks. you’re gonna hurt yourself.”
a gloved hand reaches out for your face, but he retracts it before you could notice his mistake. a habit, it seemed.
you scoff in disbelief, but the disdain you intended to put behind it lacks any real punch. you reply with a quiver in your voice.
“really…? you’re unbelievable. don’t you dare lecture me about hurting myself. it’s hypocritical, childe.” it didn’t take a genius to pick up on your solemn tone.
childe.
for a split second you think you see a hint of regret spread across the young man’s face but it’s gone the second you look at him again.
he looks at the ground past you, and whispers,“what happened to ajax…?”
“pardon?” you reply, perplexed by his question.
a sigh of defeat leaves his thin lips. childe then pulls you closer to him but with the way his eyes seem so distant you can tell it wasn’t done on a conscious basis.
“i said, what happened to ajax?” he repeats a little louder.
your brows furrow once more, but it was more so due to confusion than worry. “nothing happened, i just don’t call you that anymore cause we—”
“i,” he interrupts as if he doesn’t want you to finish that sentence. breathing in in frustration as he balls his fist, he continues, “i know, just… i just miss the way you used to say my name. forget i said anything.”
and at this, you freeze- eyebrows raised and mouth slightly agape.
as if sensing your shock, childe drops the subject and turns his head to the side away from your astonished face.
what the hell is happening?
with your heartbeat thrumming away in your chest, you slowly let your head fall back onto his shoulder.
a third and final silence settles; this time filled with realisations and unspoken feelings. it settles like the first wave of sunlight waiting to thaw out the fjords of snezhnaya after the long, gruelling months of its unforgiving winter.
childe— no, ajax, chances a glance at you once he’s certain you’ve fallen asleep and he finds that his heartbeat sings in time with yours. they thump in unison, and ajax falls asleep feeling less lonely than before. he cradles you and lets his cheek rest on the top of your head, not before untangling your scarf so that it covers the both of you comfortably.
someday, someday he’d get to hear his name roll off your tongue once again. he’d make sure of it;
and somewhere in the grand zapolyarny palace, the tsaritsa smiles.
