i feel like people really take nazism lightly these days and kind of conflate it with just run of the mill conservatism in a way that flatters nazism more than it demonizes conservatism. when someone self identifies as a nazi or “had a nazi phase” they’re aligning themselves politically with a movement that systemically and purposefully exterminated at least 5-6 million innocent people. it’s really not something to take lightly and i’m tired of people acting like it’s just a “bad opinion” that can be forgiven. it’s such a weird aspect of a society becoming more inherently fascist, fascism is becoming extremely normal in america which in turn makes it seem less extreme or harmful. which is why we get people acting like “nazi phase” is as bad as like, being kind of impressionable and edgy as a teenager. it bothers me how it’s taboo to discuss the victims of nazis and even mention the holocaust but so comfortable discussing why you should forgive a hypothetical former nazi
