Damn, you draw expressions so well. Any tips on where to find good reference pics? Love your art btw, every time i see it it makes me wanna draw and have some fun while doing it
Expressions are HARD! but I feel like YOU YOURSELF are your BEST reference when it comes to drawing them! I mean of course you can look up references for the expressions you want and follow that but if you yourself make the face you’re trying to draw (perhaps not in public because people might look at you weird) then you can FEEL which muscles in your face are working and use that as a guide! for example when you smile you FEEL your CHEEKS rise, your eyebrows raise and if you notice sometimes your head may TILT maybe you raise your head? it really depends on the expression but doing it yourself and NOTICING what parts or you body, NOT JUST YOUR FACE, are moving! like did your shoulders shift? did you move your head? did your weight move to another part of your body? also! it may help to look up the muscles of the face to see WHERE muscles are and how they move!
ALSO ALSO are really good guide that I remember from when I was really young was Scott Mccloud’s “Making Comics” Book (really awesome book btw) where he has this really good diagram of expressions and mixing it up!!
TRY IT OUT! think of all the different feelings you could feel and try to convey them! What face would you make if : ???
another good tip is DON’T BE SCARED OF IT LOOKING quote on quote “Ugly”.
HUMANS HAVE WRINKLES! HUMANS HAVE FAT! HUMANS HAVE GUMS IN THEIR MOUTH! HUMANS HAVE BAGS UNDER THEIR EYES! HUMANS HAVE MANY CHINS OR NONE! use them to SHOW what a character is feeling! STRETCH THEM as little or as MUCH AS YOU WANT!!!
Have Fun!
