For @bebecas’ 2×2 Milestone Event - Day 4: Parallels // “Talk about deja vu.” // it was all a dream ↳ 5.15 | 8.17
no, but bedlund’s episodes are thee essence of what supernatural is, or rather what it should have been. it’s thee reason the good imaginary version of supernatural that lives in our heads even exists. all of his episodes are so incredibly complex and insightful. they have the vibe. they’re dark, gritty, usettling. or they’re absolutely batshit and hilarious. or both. the dichotomy of his writing. high stakes and humor. nightshifter’s plot and good cinema “renegade” scene at the end. on the one hand you have the french mistake or bad day at black rock and on the other you have the end or abandon all hope. “i think you pissed off my sandwich” and “the only thing i think we have left, dean me, is each other”. wishful thinking. suicidal teddy bear and dean’s hell trauma. my bloody valentine. cas eats hundreds of burgers and dean is so traumatized that even famine sees that he is dead inside. then bedlund’s insane talent of understanding angels and grasping the sheer potential of introducing them to the show. he was the only one who actually knew heaven. on the head of a pin? the “for the first time i feel” and “it gets worse”? his episodes have this perfect balance of plot related and character related issues. in simon said we follow the plot. but we also learn that hunters will resent sam for being different. and dean is scared that they’ll be right. those episodes somehow go deeper; they make us understand characters’ motivations and the general construction of the supernatural world and all of its intrinsic details. they are cohesive. in the end the characters go on a suicide mission to kill the devil with the colt, and in the devil you know we learn that it would never actually work. the meaning is enhanced in retrospect. sam’s speech in the great escapist, him explaining he never felt pure, not even as a child. all of that makes sense for the current plot, but makes the previous seasons and storylines so much worse. another thing is bedlund’s insane and innovative approach to portraying the story. in ghostfacers we learn that the show is actually a crooked mirror. it’s a censored version of the characters’ reality. monster movie is black and white. thee masterpiece the man who would be king? let’s not even go there. repo man is a monster of the week. but is it? there is a twist. “love of my life, actually”. it’s something that makes you stop and think once again. blood brother. hollywood babylon. clap your hands if you believe and “did you service oberon, king of the fairies” and then everything about everybody hates hitler. bedlund introduces us to new ideas, new characters, new perspectives and then actually remembers, weaves, and resolves them in his later episodes. and he hopes the other writiers will follow. they don’t.

WORLDS 2014
Liliya Rozanova falls and smashes her face against the ice while attempting to be the first woman to land a quad axel in competition. Somewhere in the stands Jane Hollander gasps louder than she should and clutches her fists together very tightly. Later that night, alone in her hotel room she rewatches the ESPN highlight coverage of the incident 13 times. She keeps that footage saved in a private locked folder on her phone and revisits it frequently. For normal reasons.
Clear version under the cut
