I can’t get over how one person can be so much of a negative influence over another.(
Once upon a time, Ian was a genuinely good person. He loved his fans, he championed rights for animals, he set out to raise awareness about the environment. He was a crusader, an activist, and a wonderful person full of warmth.
Now, he’s completely unrecognizable. He slights Nina who’s said nothing but kind things about him, he screams at fans he once treated so adoringly, he immaturely attributes every god forsaken aspect of the Delena ship to his former relationship with Nina and has nothing but scornful things to say about it now. He’s just..not the same person at all.
I don’t know if it’s that Nikki’s ego-centric self has rubbed off on him completely, or that he’s prioritized making his marriage work above everything else including his reputation, relationship with his fans, and friendship with his co-stars, or what, but either way - he’s become a terrible person. It’s so disheartening because I once adored him so much; now, I don’t have a modicum of respect left for him.
His wife is a snake that has clearly had a very toxic influence over him, but he’s a grown man responsible for himself. He chose to be this way. I don’t care if he’s doing it all to placate her insecure ass. He’s made an ass out of himself in the process.
He couldn’t even be professional for his five minutes shooting with Nina. The entire time he was practically grimacing as though just being in her presence pained him. Seriously, grow up. I swear, he has so much disdain for DE fans that he intentionally sabotaged Delena’s reunion just to spite them. He wanted no such reunion and he made that abundantly clear in how he chose to portray Damon in those pivotal moments. I understand how difficult it must have been given their history, but he didn’t even try one bit to bring some justice to that scene, which would have been so much more poignant if he had actually swallowed his pride and emulated the overwhelming love and joy that DAMON SALVATORE was supposed to have felt in those moments like any professional would have. Nina being the prime example of that; she put forth as much effort and emotion as she could muster, but I could tell that even her usual A-game was off because of how uncomfortable she was probably feeling about Ian’s distinctly cold and heartless performance. I mean, would it really have killed him to let DAMON’S smile reach his eyes upon being reunited with the love of his life he thought he wouldn’t see for another 65 years? Words cannot describe how much Ian’s lack of maturity and professionalism botched up the whole scene. Even at the end, before they walk off into the sunset, he can’t be bothered to feign any affection towards his onscreen wife. His expression the whole while is pinched and so ridiculously forced, I had to roll my eyes despite the warmth pooling in my stomach at the same time over my all-time OTP being endgame. I WAS happy, don’t mistake me, but not with Ian. You could tell from the moment shooting the scene began, he was going into without any intention of putting forth the slightest shred of effort. He was completely, utterly done with Delena and Nina and he wanted to get that across to his fans. I’ve seen Damon look at fucking Alaric with more love in his eyes than he did at his future wife in those final scenes. Disgraceful.
Ian talks down to fans about separating fiction from reality, but he can’t even do it himself.
I only hope that he eventually looks back on this with shame. The old Ian absolutely would have been mortified with himself had he ever behaved like even a fraction of how he is now before he married Nikki.
He may as well say goodbye to his career as he’s demonstrated multiple times that he’s not above basically sabotaging it to appease his ridiculous wife.
