sullen-dreamer reblogged your post: Those who like to say white people of today are responsible for all the things white people in history have done
Would you like to tell me how innocent human beings can be inherently racist just by being born into this world? If you look at a…
Oppression is not tit for tat, saying that one group did something atrocious 1,000 years ago so now were all even is just asinine. “ No, oppression is not tit for tat. To hold an entire new generation of people accountable for the actions of past generations and expect them grapple at your feet to make up for the actions of people that may or may not be their ancestors is asinine. No one can embody their ancestors and change history- it is important to live in the now. Do you realize that this exact same argument you just made could be reversed, and it would make complete sense? “White people may not be racist by birth- but they sure as hell benefit from white privilege.” You can not equate racism to benefiting from privilege. In America, dare I say, racial equality has been striven for and has been achieved- no matter what color you are you can set for the highest goals, hold the mostly noble offices in our government, there are no restrictions legally placed on any human being that prevent them from taking hold of every amount of privilege prevented to each person in American society. You can not carry the inequality from the past into the present, to say that white people legally hold more privilege today is simply factually incorrect. I also find it quite bothersome that you automatically assume my ancestors were from America. You look at the color of my skin and decide without fact that I am related to slave owners, and bigoted Americans of the past that held oppressive laws. My ancestors are from Italy, and Sweden. Those whom I’m descended from actually immigrated to America during the industrial revolution, met their fair share of discrimination and hardships- but did, in the face of it all become successful. I did not inherit the prejudice they faced by their drive to succeed. "Just as all men benefit from rape culture even though they may not be rapists. By refusing to acknowledge these oppressive cultural norms exist, you are propagating them." I’m sorry, but how is rape normalized and accepted in our society? We dont say murder culture, or robbery culture when those crimes are portrayed more often in the media. It is actually considered a subject that is very taboo- and as an act known to be horrid, atrocious and unforgivable (which it should be). You can not stamp privilege onto someone and rightfully deem them guilty for all the actions of rapists because of “privilege”. All men are not born rapists. All men are taught not to rape, taught that rape is a despicable thing (just as all women are taught as well.) I’ve found that people in various social justice groups attempt to find proof for rape culture in various songs (such as Blurred Lines) in which the true meaning, according to fact, has nothing to do with rape at all. “Frankly, your high and mighty spiritual bullshit makes me sick. I hope you are very young with terrible parents because that is the only thing that can excuse your arrogance.” This is a terrible, hateful thing to wish upon someone. Explain to me what about seeing beyond the facades of the tone of someones skin, and not judging them for the person they are rather than what I assume their ancestors have done, or how much privilege I believe they have that I do not- explain to me what about forming an opinion about someone based not on the color of their skin, but who they are as a human being and believing that others should practice this belief gives you the impression that I am arrogant. Perhaps I am wishful, perhaps I am a dreamer- but I am not arrogant. It is amazing the mental gymnastics and skewing of definition you went through to somehow make what I originally said racist. Me saying that all human beings should be judged by their character rather than the color of their skin is not discrimination or bigotry. Look around the world, put things in fucking perspective- there are racially charged genocides, systematic killings on a large scale of people because of their gender or race going on around planet (“read a book or something”)- and you claim that a young woman who believes that the color of someones skin can not dictate who they are as a person is racist because of the privilege you assume she has. Perspective is key. You must have jumped through some mental hoops to come to that conclusion.
"Judging people by their spirit? Honey, you need to take those white washed glasses off your entitled face and look at the suffering your privilege is directly responsible for." I never stated that everyone is judged by their spirit, by the person they are- but that rightfully everyone should be judged by their spirit. Please, shut the fuck up about calling me entitled/ acting like I do not fully realize the privileges I do have. That is you profiling me based on what you think my heritage is because of my skin tone, and what sort of person you so blatantly delude yourself into thinking your baseless assumptions of who I am, and my ascendancy make me. You assuming my ancestors weren’t immigrants who worked hard for everything they had in the face of prejudice is disgustingly ignorant. The fact that my ancestors being immigrants may change your opinion of me is gross as well. “Try telling the Hispanic woman who makes 54 cents to the white mans dollar that she is being judged by her spirit” This wage gap is completely industry related. The Hispanic woman is not being prevented from holding the same job as the white man because of her race, but because of her personal decisions. If you deny this, you are also denying that all responsibility for personal actions made by anyone who were not born white should not be taken into consideration when looking at their current employment/ success level. There are white homeless men, white men that work in fast food joints, white men who are janitors. They make less than other white men, not because of systematic oppression but because of differences in life decisions. Same applies to any/every race or gender. As far as the NYPD stop and frisks- I am completely against them. The neighborhoods they happen in tend to be the ones with the highest crime rates- either way people should not ever be stopped and have their personal space violated without reasonable suspicion. As far as the Zimmerman Trial (which I think is what you were reffering to)- the Florida Justice system is messed up. Zimmerman getting away with murder is similar to Casey Anthony getting away with murder- the defense was allowed to bring in facts that distracted to the actual evidence of the crime thus skewing the verdict. By all means both of those people should have faced a life in Prison. ” Tell the trafficked Slavic woman who was raped by a punter that she is being judged by her spirit.” Please, give me a link to this specific case because I have googled the key words, and it came up with incidents that are mostly going on in Russia. You can not use information from other countries to support you opinion of institutionalized racism in America. White women are raped, Black women are raped, Hispanic women are raped, Asian women are raped, you can not link the raping of someone to racism simply because they happen to not be “white”. Rapists do not choose their victims based on race, they will most likely go for anyone they see as a potential target- again it has everything to do with a rapists lack of self control I hardly believe that rapists select targets by race. Tell any rape victim that he/she was being judged for his or her spirit and you’ll be incorrect. How about these white people who were brutally murdered just for being born with light colored skin? Were they being judged for their spirit or character? Were these events ever made a big deal, or even talked about largely? No. If you have the audacity to say the murderers of these innocent human beings were not racist because the victims were “privileged” you are a sick person. To end this all, I’d like to say that you’ve proven to be a highly biased, and prejudice person just based on how quickly you assumed you knew everything about my heritage, personality, value system, and morals completely stemming from the color of my skin. Please, take a step back and evaluate your definition of racism. Racism is being discriminatory or prejudice against anyone, of any race. Racism is believing you are superior to other other races. Racism is not the personal belief of judging people by their character rather than the color of their skin, racism is not being born with privilege- though you do not directly state this, it is implied in the way you relate those two things. Sorry, you can not skew and change the definition of racism in order to justify your instant hatred and categorization of white people.
