A nod, “Yes, Wallace is still going strong. He’s taken a liking to contests as well over the years.”

“Veterens??? You make us sound like we’re old." Steven said with a chuckle, only teasing.

It was true, Wallace and Steven had entered the scene at a relatively young age for such a high level,compared to some more seasoned trainers. Then again, there were some much, much younger than him that might be better these days. Age was never an indicator of skill anymore. Why, even Marlon must be a bit younger than him, even if it wasn’t by much, it was still a feat to have a gym in your late teens. Then again, Steven was only 25, it seemed most of the other regional champions trumped him by 2 or 3 years. Not much.

"Indeed there are some gnarly youngsters, that I’m sure one day will even take my place. As far as I know your own league champion was recently taken over by someone quite young, wasn’t it?” The word sounded foreign coming out of Steven’s mouth. It was slang, something that Brawly would be more likely to say than himself.

Wait, hold up-- Contests? Considering Wallace's demeanour as the Water specialist remembered him, he wasn't much surprised by the developed interest, but.. but... kinship... his little heart...

"Shoots! Dude, are you serious? I used to love Contests! Wasn't great at 'em, but still..." Fondly Marlon recalled the scarce couple of Contests he'd clumsily handled as a child with his Wailmer, and the debilitating strike on the Nimbasa Musical Hall that Wailord had caused afterward. Really, it was a wonder he'd managed to get a position on the League after that -- or anywhere for that matter.

The poke at Marlon's wording shocked him for the smallest fraction of a second into believing he'd actually upset the man (wispy as he was, the daunting silver fox) -- until Steven's laughter rang clear in the room, wiping away his conscience. He was a powerful Trainer himself, but man, he didn't know what he would do with the rest of his life here on Earth if he managed to get on bad terms with the Champion of Hoenn. Dwindle away into nothing, maybe?

"Dude, you're right! The Champ before 'em was even younger, though! At least, I think. I swear Iris can't be more than, like, twelve..." Truly, Iris' age was shrouded in mystery, but he pushed the matter aside for now, breaking out into a grin and snorting at Steven's creative argot. Monumental for a guy who said things like quite and indeed and wore suits with metal cuffs all the time.

         Truth be told he wasn’t exactly sure what he was doing either. He turned towards the other and sunk lower into the water so only his nose and eyes were above the water. From there he just stared at the man.

          He then blew some bubbles in the water not really trying to say anything just doing it for fun at this point.

Honestly, at this stage in the game he was just going to let it be -- but hey, it was his Gym and there was no need not to be hospitable, he supposed. "Then, uh... Can I get you somethin'?"
