Official announcement
First post and disclaimer
So for the first post on this blog, do wanna go over some things
This blog is very strongly for mental health awareness even with the comics having their own stories, and not focusing directly on the mental illness itself. This is very strongly on purpose. ‘
People that have mental health struggles as part of their life still have their own stories, life and adventures. But it does cause life to take different turns and sometimes move for a different pace than those that don’t struggle.
I won’t be able to touch on every mental health struggle out there and will not often say outright what each character is struggling with. Most of us with family and friends don’t even know what it is they are dealing with till tested which not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do.
From an outside perspective some people see those struggling as weird until they are told what is going on. This shouldn’t be the case. People should be respected regardless of how “weird” you think they are being. As strangers are not going to label themselves for you, shouldn’t have to, and should be seen as someone that deserves just as much as you.
As this is a case, I ask that you respect the characters and ask yourself what you can do to make the world a better place if you see someone similar to these characters.
Yes, some characters are still painted as villains. No certain illness is the villain, no illness is dangerous, or scary. But when you have two mentally ill individuals, sometimes one or both parties cope maladaptively making place for abuse, or conflict. It happens and it’s very real and sad.
Comics will most likely be in perspective of specific characters. So different characters will be painted as villains in their eyes. I’m not ever saying what is worth sympathy or not. I’m not even saying my main characters are always in the right.
The environments my characters live in, as well as governing is not always going to be good. There will be stigma, and phobia. Punishment for things the characters can’t control. Just as in the real world. This does not follow my beliefs on the way mental health should be treated, rather an eye opener to viewers about the way things are done. As well as how hard mental health can be.
It will be a hard read for many so I will be listing triggers for each arc before I post that arc.
I do wanna add that I want to portray things as real and respectively as possible. I am doing extensive research and even using real experiences of my own to help build these stories. But unfortunately being a human, I am just as prone to mistakes as others. I would definitely like constructive criticism when due. And pointers if I do something that isn’t appreciated. These comics are meant to shine light and paint good pictures on how people should be treated better. Never to tear anyone down. And I want to people help me keep that the case if the writing isn’t viewed as planned.
Have a wonderful day, drink water, step outside or open a window, feed yourself and remind yourself that there are people that care and want to make a difference.
Lastly. I urge all of you with mental health struggles to put emergency hotlines in your phone. It’s something a lot of us can’t remember to look for in a relapse so having it in your phone will make it easier to access. Just a kindly reminder ^.^
