“That’s assuming that this anomaly stretches that far out…” The Captain spoke then glanced to the side where the woman had previously sat only to find her gone. Scanning the shuttle she saw Seven remove a panel. Instantly the Captain stood.

“What do you think you’re doing?” She questioned with a hint of abruptness. Not rude, but with an air of authority.

“I am adjusting the shuttle craft’s power flow for maximum efficiency in this phenomenon. What other purpose would there be in accessing this relay?”

She failed to see why the Captain had suddenly stood. Eyes scanning over Janeway, she added, “There is no need for alarm.”

“Its customary to inform your superior officers before acting...” Eyeing the panel she sighed turning back to her own systems. It was the right thing to do sure, but it was against regulations.

“I’m boosting power to the shields and dropping to impulse.”

“No need to apologize Major, I think i’d be the same If the roles were reversed. You finish eating and I’ll show you rather than tell you...” Her excitement was fresh, it made everything the Captain had taken for granted all her life seem suddenly just as new and exciting as it would have been the first time.

The holodecks were everyones favorite stop off during the first time tour of Federation technology, especially out here in the Delta Quadrant where those advances had yet to be made. Though Kathryn understood the science behind it, asking her to describe it was a little past her level, thankfully with the Holodecks she could run a program to explain it, itself. Though a nice taste of home or some beautiful alien planet was far more appealing.

Kathryn somewhat studied the woman’s movements, she was suspicious clearly at first but after a moment, that sparked both her own and the Doctors interest. When the woman relaxed Kathryn stepped forward, placing a hand on the side of the bed.

“We never learned the planet’s name, not officially. Some of the crew were calling it Terra two…..Its a take on the planet we were from, the two planets are quite similar…. Right now though, you’re on board the Federation Star ship Voyager, I am her Captain. We’re in what we called the Delta Quadrant.”

Carlotta frowned as she heard this, “Wait, wait, wait…. You’re from Earth?!” she questioned and then blinked, “Star…. Ship? As in….. We’re in space?” came her next question as she rubbed her forehead, digesting this information. “Oh goddesses above……..” she groaned before taking a deep breath, “What year is it….. For you? This… This is important.” she asked.

How she was still standing and hadn’t fainted, not even she knew right now but she was determined for the truth, “Federation? And what beeped just now?”

This woman knew of earth? That just opened more questions, but right now it seemed her own questions would have to wait. “Some of us are, we come from a range of different planets though... This Starship is warp capable, able to travel faster than light, planets to planets in a blink of an eye.... The year is 2374 and its the United Federation of planets, an interstellar federal republic, composed of planetary governments that agree to exist semi-autonomously under a single central government based on the principles of universal liberty, rights, and equality..... At least thats what the textbooks say.”

Looking over she glanced to the top of the bed where the womans vitals where being displayed. “Its just the computer, nothing to be alarmed about.”

“Loneliness has such negative inclinations, everyone on board this ship… And now yourself, I consider my family. There are so many people though sometimes the fact that there are so many means its easy to feel more claustrophobic….I don’t know if I am making any sense.”

She was stuttering. Kathryn didn’t mean to find amusement but something about the way the woman spoke brought a hint of a giggle towards the edges of otherwise hard pressed lips.

“I do have some good ones..” The smile grew as the words escaped. “And, I do believe It’s a Captain’s job to give a guest a complete tour, holodecks and all. Usually those tours end with a replicated meal that… I can’t cook but try to anyway…Thats if you’re interested in the full Tour.”

Kathryn’s giggle made the blush brighten on Carlotta’s cheeks and she ducked her head bashfully, she was just short of 40 for heaven’s sake and yet here she was blushing like a teenager again! And yet she smiled any way, knowing she brought the giggle out of Kathryn, bringing her away from the strong Captain that the earth witch admired and respected, and was eternally grateful to for allowing her and her family to stay and slowly become a part of the Voyager crew and family.

“I would like that…… Very much so….” she replied before chuckling, “Well, good thing I can! Cook that is….. I mean… Brewing potions does tend to help one’s cooking skills, let alone being a wife and mother…..” she smiled brightly, “You realise the cliché is that the door will likely go off with something having happened or something…..”

It did go off and Carlotta sighed though she heard Angela’s crying slightly through it, but she looked at Kathryn. They were in her quarters after all, not the ones that had been assigned to the family.

Brewing potions… That would never get old. There was just something about that that made her, unique, special you could say. Wife and mother was… something different. Well, one of those more than the other. Kathryn pushed that thought far, far away. It wasn’t her style.

“Are you sure you didn’t curse us?” She gave the woman a small brief smile before turning her attention to the doors. “Come in.” The doors chimed open to reveal one of the infant children, though she didn’t have an overly strong mothering instinct it was enough to instantly feel compassion, they hadn’t been on board too long, but it was long enough to get to know most of the children. Standing up she beckoned her over. “Now whats making my favourite officer so sad?”

Carlotta chuckled at Kathryn’s silence, “I guess it is difficult still to wrap your head around magic and all the ways linked to it. Potion making is no different to Chemistry and Medicine making…” she spoke softly with a tender smile.

“I did not, t’is just coincidence!” Carlotta chuckled as she saw Angela in the arms of a Crewman, “Apologies for disturbing you Captain, but Mr Neelix couldn’t figure out what little Angela had to eat so I offered to find Ms Reynauld here….” she replied, Carlotta standing up and striding over, “Oh alright little one, alright….” she cooed, gently taking her baby from the Crewman, “Thank you for bringing her up, Crewman….” she smiled brightly, crossing back over to a seat, “Ummmmm, y-y-y-y you don’t mind if I just feed her a moment?” she asked shyly, bouncing the two month old in her arms.

“I’ll get used to it one day” Looking back at the officer she gave him a quick smile and nod to dismiss him.

“Of course not, go right ahead.” The Captain looked the little one over for a moment before leaning back. In the older days that sort of thing would be uncomfortable, but it was the twenty forth century and there was absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. At least not to a human.

“What is the- problem ..” The EMH said as he was transported from Sickbay

“This stupid headache it came out of no where…” The Captain waved her hand dismissively though her description of a simple ‘headache’ was a considerable understatement.

“You look as if its more than a simple headache. Would you like to come to sickbay captain?” He asked putting out his hand toward her.

“Don’t worry Doctor I’m Fine.” She stood from her desk and took a step before suddenly feeling an overpowering weakness, her legs did not fully give way but with the dizziness and sudden loss of balance she did somewhat stumble, grabbing his outstretched arm for support. “Maybe it’s not such a bad idea after all…”

He put her arm across his shoulders and tried to not let her loose balance again, “What a great idea.” He said as he walked to the turbo lift

Giving him a side glance, the Captain wondered if he’d always been that sarcastic... Though, it was certainly part of his -what was the word- charm... Stepping into the turbo lift she shook her now pounding head, she hated needing help, she hated appearing weak... “Has anyone else shown any similar symptoms?” That would be better, if everyone was this way not just her... Then at least she had an excuse.

"The Federation will not protect you here, captain. You should go back, this side of the galaxy is full of hostile races, not even known by humans."

“I came to terms with that a long time ago now. There is no going back for us, we have to go through. Hostile or not our home is on the other side of this Quadrant…. We don’t have a choice.”

She smiled. “I sadly have much less faith in that, Captain.” She paid the waitress and got up, towering over the much smaller human female in front of her. “However, you count on me for anything.” She bowed her head slightly, touching the captain’s back and leading her out of there.

“Thats certainly a start” And far more than the Captain had expected or would really have asked for, but still she certainly could not complain about the help. “And believe me when I say” Standing up and following her out she looked back with a friendly smile. “We are grateful and should you ever need anything...”

The only thing in that room was a solid metal like container frozen and covered in dust; some wires dangled above the container and some were completely torn away. Devices abandoned and skeletons lay on the floor near the devices and complex computers.

Inside the container was another thing entirely. A young child no older than seventeen earth years; Her pale scarred hands lay across her chest and her ashen blonde hair was up in a very intricate syle and design.

As the Captain of the USS Voyager, Kathryn always felt a need to be an active member of the away missions, though technically against regulations it was a rule that most leaders dismissed. Kathryn no less, though somewhat more, than others. Today was one of those days, Kathryn regretted her stubborn desire to actively participate, an away team had formed to investigate what was left of an abandoned building left on a desolate planet and she decided she had to be involved. Whilst she led her crew into a section of the building, it was the smell that caught her attention first. A stench that made the hairs on her arms stand tall and her stomach threaten to give way. Quickly she pulled a piece of fabric from her pocket and covered her nose and mouth. Kathryn Janeway was not ashamed to say the sent of death was one that would haunt her… Stepping past the mostly rotted remains of what could only be assumed to be the crew, she made her way to the small container, scanning it with her tricorder, the readings were skewed and distorted, the alloys that formed the container scanning however barrier seemed to be stopping any further scans. With a phasor out she placed her hand on the top, feeling the chill of the ice slightly burn at her skin as she forced the top open. “We have a survivor!” The Captain’s was abrupt and dripping with confusion, this must have been some form of stasis, though it was nothing like she’d seen. “We can’t leave her here, we’ll transport her onto the ship and see if she can be thawed…”

It wasn’t seen but on the girls side there was some sort of metalic object a spherical item but she just looked like a pleasent child as she slept.

The girl and mechanics she was attached too, were beamed aboard and directly to sickbay where the Doctor begun to scan, poke and prod while the engineering team studied the piece of technology. Once they learned all they could the order was given to wake her up.

The room consisted of the Doctor, the head engineer, a security team armed and holding the door and the Captain. “Do it.” Kathryn Janeway ordered and the Doctor stepped in past a force field and to the girl who sat now dressed on a medical bed. He pressed a hypospray into her neck which should have only taking a few seconds to wake her up.

She blinked a couple of times as she awoke. Her purple eyes looked around confused and in honesty she wasn’t as scared as she should have been.

She sat up and looked at the faces infront of her. She said nothing.

“Hello....” The Captain eyed the female with hesitation, the doctor cleared his throat and took over, a quick greeting followed by a simple explanation as to her whereabouts, onboard the star ship Voyager. “Do you have a name?” The Captain once again spoke her voice gentle but still curious.

“My name is Dr. Carson Beckett.” Carson said, still shaking from what he felt was a near-death experience. He figured that it was best to answer their questions truthfully. He didn’t know what the pointy-eared man was, but he most certainly was not human. “I’m part of an exploration team from Earth. We’ve settled in Atlantis, but a lot of the stuff that the Ancients left behind is dangerous… I suppose one of them must have transported me here. Wherever ‘here’ is.”

Ancients? Atlantis? Earth? If this man traveled from Earth to here… Suffices to say sparked an interest, which trumped her confusion by a long shot. “Well Doctor Beckett, not the sort of welcome we like to give our…guests, but it’ll have to do. You’ve been beamed on board the Federation Star Ship Voyager over seventy thousand light years from earth…. Now I don’t know of or about these Ancients you mentioned, but if that technology can beam you this distance… I’d sure as hell like to become acquainted.”

Federation? Star ship? These words didn’t mean anything to Beckett, although he might have heard similar phrases amidst all the science fiction talk that Sheppard and McKay were always tossing around.

Wait, only seventy-thousand lightyears from Earth? That was closer than he had been before. The Pegasus Galaxy was 3 million lightyears from Earth. Had the Ancients been working on a way to teleport people long distances without using a Stargate?

“I didn’t come here from Earth.” He corrected. “I came here from the Pegasus Galaxy, 3 million lightyears from Earth. We got there through the Stargates. I’m guessing the thing that sent me here must’ve been experimental, because I didn’t see any others in Atlantis.”

He looked down, and bent to pick up the orb, which lay at his feet. It was no longer glowing the way it had been before, and he frowned at it with concern.

“Oh, God. I hope I didn’t use up all of it’s power.” He said anxiously.

“I have to say... I hope you didn’t either...” If what this man was saying was true then he had a way to travel enormous distances, far further than they were right now. She felt that familiar feeling that she’d not allowed herself to feel for quite some time. Hope. Hope that home was within reach, for herself and her crew.

“Doctor Beckett, what ever brought you here... Its far more powerful than anything we have.” The Captain was always prideful but not when it came to going home. “I’d very much like for our scientists to look it over... if we could use that technology to get home....”

@deltas-captain Ren looks up, a strange noise catching her attention. A veil of blue light appears and slowly fades, leaving a stranger standing on her warehouse. “Nice pajamas,” she comments, looking at the stranger’s uniform, “Care to tell me why you’re trespassing in my lair?”

Kathryn beamed to the location she’d been given with her away team, only instead of an abandoned villiage full of culture, she was transported to a strange building, and instead of an away team she was alone...Well not entirely. “....Paja- oh... You mean my uniform... “ Stepping away and looking around she took in her surroundings, hesitant and suspicious but ended up focusing back on the girl before her. “Just ah... Just dropped in. Where is this.... lair of yours?”

“It’s not exactly my favorite thing to happen, you’ve given my engineering team something to do though.” The Captain eyed the man but offered a smile. “Captain Kathryn Janeway, the ship you crashed into is the USS Voyager. I’d have preferred to have met on a little more formal basis but you know what they say, beggars can’t be choosers.”

“Well, it was..” Kathryn couldn’t help but smirk at the salute, it was quaint, like a step back in history… Infact this man was just like a human from old earth. The smirk turned into an expression of curiosity as she eyed him then the wreckage sticking into her ships hull. He had come out of no where, one minute there was no one, the next a shuttle rammed the hull. No time for shields, no time for hails.

“Welcome on board Lieutenant, tell me about your home world, Im quite curious as to where you came from.”

“Well, thanks for the warm welcome, Captain.”

In truth, the mysterious way John had come into this area of space had been Rodney’s fault. If they hadn’t have been testing that stupid WEAPON, John wouldn’t be in this mess. Then again- he didn’t know he WAS In a mess.

“Earth. There’s not really much to say about it except gas prices keep going up. And country music keeps getting worse.”

Earth…. He’s from Earth. Oh she could KISS him.

Kathryn’s hand rose, pressing it against her lips in a sign of shock, she had thought he was from something similar to earth but she hadn’t even considered he’d have come -in that tiny little ship to add- all that way.

“Earth…” The captain was almost too overwhelmed to notice he mentioned gas prices. Gas… Gas hasn’t been used for well over a hundred years. “I’m curious… well about a lot of things, but we’ll start with one. how’d you get here? Were you sent by the federation?”

“Tell me more about this replicator?”

Kathryn laughed at the statement of ice cream, it seemed so simple to her, it was something she’d grown up with since her father was an admiral, there was always a replicator close by, but something so simple to her was so alien to this Samantha, and that was allowing her to see things in an entirely different light.

“Well, thousands of dishes are programmed into it, even more ingredients so if the specific thing you want isn’t programmed you can design it yourself, but not just food, a replicator can make anything. It uses energy to reconstruct certain patterns to create objects, the elements are all there but the replicators put the pieces together. You can make anything with it as long as the base elements are present in the systems. Other than weapons of course, the systems won’t allow it.... Our holodecks use the same base technology which you might find interesting. Photons and forcefields hold together images that become solid to touch, so you can create any image, person, play you want.”

Samantha saw the grin on the Captain’s face and couldn’t help but smile with her. She was glad to see her attempt at a joke went over well. It didn’t last long though, her eyes were lost in the starlight rather quickly and remained there for a few minutes before she moved on, not wanting to keep the woman or her stomach waiting. The latter of which was growling softly.

The woman was hungry and her stomach was doing everything it could to make that known. “I’m looking forward to it.” She replied with a smile. Samantha was sure whatever Kathryn thought he’d like. She had never been a picky person so she was more than willing to try whatever she suggested, though even then she was certain there were somethings that ven she wouldn’t touch. Hearing what Kathryn had in mind Samantha smiled slightly that did sound really good. Her mouth actually salivated a little at the sound of it.

“If the the way you described it is any indication it sounds great.”Samanta said trying not to sound too eager. When her eyes landed on the plate she eyed it hungrily, breakfast seemed even longer ago now that she knew she was going to eat soon. Once she picked up the tray she fought the urge to pick at it before she could even seat herself.

“Trust me, it is” Kathryn walked around and pulled out her chair, allowing her to sit before turning back to the replicator and ordering herself a coffee, black, hot, no sugar or cream. The usual order that she very…very rarely strayed from. There was just something so homely about the brew, it reminded her of winter nights with a good book.

Stepping back around and over to the table she sat down on the other chair. “I hope you don’t mind my joining you. You’ve given me an excuse to sit down and have coffee rather than being on the bridge.” Of course she was mostly joking, she still TECHNICALLY was off duty as this time, she was supposed to still be on the planet. Still, that was the point in having a second in charge.

“I do trust you.” Samantha replied before she could stop herself. Without missing a beat she gave a slight smile and quickly sat down in the chair Kathryn had pulled out. It was a strange gesture from one woman to another, but she figured it was just her being polite. Nevermind the fact that the woman was very sweet. But Sam couldn’t even think of a time someone had done that for her recently, not even O'Neil did it for her. When she smelled the rich coffee came to her nose she smiled. Sam was about to ask the woman how to use the replicator when she sat down near her. “I’m glad to help.” She chuckled, “And of course sit, it’ll give us a chance to talk.” Sam said as she quickly got herself a fork full from her plate. Bringing it to her lips she ate; chewing slowly savoring the flavor. It was like nothing she’d ever tasted before and like nothing she could really describe. The lemon was there of course, that familiar flavor danced on her tongue. But the uttaberry was like nothing she’d ever tasted before. Before she spoke she took another bite then licked some of the sauce from her lip. “It is really good.”

It was a fleeting moment but Kathryn very much picked up on it, trust was an important thing to come by, to hear this woman trusted her already did instill her with some confidence.

Grinning Kathryn watched her take a bite, as strange as that seemed it was almost as though she’d made it herself. She wanted to make sure that this woman enjoyed every bite and it seemed like she did. “I thought you might like it, infact something else you might like about the future... Our replicators ensure that the food has all the necessary dietary measures with little to none of the negatives... Meaning you order a bowl of chocolate ice cream and though it might not taste exactly the same, it will be healthy enough for you to eat a second one” Her tone was playful as she brought the cup to her lips, it was true though, it was practically healthy. Of course try to get drunk on replicated non-alcoholic booze and then see the down side. Synthohol was no better, not that Kathryn was much of a drinker. She tried that once when she was at the academy and realized it was simply not for her.

“Of course… Protocol” Thats going to be fun. Explaining later why star- fleet doesn’t have any idea about the uniform changes. Damn that temporal prime directive.

“However… We dont have to do that right now. I am far more interested in you. I’ve read your file Lieutenant, I’m quite Impressed. Infact, i’ve been wanting to meet you for some time now.”

“Me?”

Tasha was admittedly surprised. It had been stunning enough when she had found out Picard had requested her for work aboard the Enterprise. The idea that her name was making any sort of waves through Starfleet was almost unfathomable to her.

“I… wasn’t aware that I was up for review. It was my understanding the Enterprise was just stopping at this starbase for routine repairs and crew rotations.”

“Relax Lieutenant, this is in no way official. My interest in you is purely personal. Most of the Enterprise crew have preformed exceptionally but you have stood out, and your name has been mentioned.”

In fact, it was. Lieutenant Natasha Yar was a name that most everybody in Starfleet had heard of... And her sacrifice.
