“No need to apologize Major, I think i’d be the same If the roles were reversed. You finish eating and I’ll show you rather than tell you…” Her excitement was fresh,  it made everything the Captain had taken for granted all her life seem suddenly just as new and exciting as it would have been the first time. 

The holodecks were everyones favorite stop off during the first time tour of Federation technology, especially out here in the Delta Quadrant where those advances had yet to be made. Though Kathryn understood the science behind it, asking her to describe it was a little past her level, thankfully with the Holodecks she could run a program to explain it, itself. Though a nice taste of home or some beautiful alien planet was far more appealing.

"Thanks.." She breathed with a small smile. Sam couldn't help being curious she knew this was a once in a lifetime chance and she wasn't about to pass this chance up. She had no clue how long she'd be here -- if it'd be a few hours or a few days. It was something she knew Jackson would be jealous of but part of her didn't care. This was her chance to explore, discover and even have a little vacation. She worked hard, she deserved it. 

Slowly she was feeling more at ease, in just a few hours she'd gone from anxiously wanting to get back home to not caring how long it too. She wasn't sure where the change had come from but now it was just a simple curiosity.  "That sounds like fun. As long as curiosity doesn't kill the cat." Sam said with a laugh. Part of her wondered if the old phrase was still common this far into the future, but she figured she was about to find out.  “And please call me Sam.”  The woman added with a slight nod of her head, while she appreciated the respect it seemed so out of place. She of course wouldn’t stop calling the woman before her ‘Captain’ unless she was told to do so. But Major right now seemed so out of place especially since the rank technically didn’t exist anymore at least under that name.

Anything that Kathryn wanted to tell her Sam was all too eager to hear it. She had always had a curiosity about her, and a fascination with space so being here now all these years into the future was a dream come true. Never in her wildest dreams had she thought she'd be on a starship let alone in a time far beyond her years.

"Are you missing your old life a lot?" The Captain asked in the privacy of her ready room, she'd been concerned about the woman, concerned about fitting in. Though she was lost like the rest of them, she was out of time to boot.

Sam leaned back in one of the chairs near the captain and shrugged slightly that was a hard question to answer,"What I miss most, are my friends. O'Neil, Jackson and Teal'c, hell even the rest of of the crew. But no...." She said then laughed uneasily, "That sounds so horrible. I think... I'm just enjoying the time 'off'."

“Tell me more about this replicator?” 

Kathryn laughed at the statement of ice cream, it seemed so simple to her, it was something she’d grown up with since her father was an admiral, there was always a replicator close by, but something so simple to her was so alien to this Samantha, and that was allowing her to see things in an entirely different light. 

“Well, thousands of dishes are programmed into it, even more ingredients so if the specific thing you want isn’t programmed you can design it yourself, but not just food, a replicator can make anything. It uses energy to reconstruct certain patterns to create objects, the elements are all there but the replicators put the pieces together. You can make anything with it as long as the base elements are present in the systems. Other than weapons of course, the systems won’t allow it…. Our holodecks use the same base technology which you might find interesting. Photons and forcefields hold together images that become solid to touch, so you can create any image, person, play you want.”

Samantha waited for Kathryn to answer her. She loved the idea of all of this but she was having a hard time wrapping her mind around it. The technology  was so new and different to her it was far beyond what she could even begin t hope for in her lifetime and yet here she was years into the future and she was getting a taste of what was to come in a world she'd never get to see. When Kathryn spoke Samantha hung on every word taking it all in with a the eagerness of child. It was as if she couldn't learn enough about all of this. There was just too much about this world that she didn't know and that she longed to know. "I don't know what sounds cooler the food or the images and plays." She said with a grin. Right now the food might have won because she was still hungry, but she couldn't help btu be curious what else this machine could do.

"What else can you tell me? Please I want to know everything." She asked of the woman suddenly becoming aware that she sounded like Daniel."Forgive me ... this world is just so intriguing. I can't help but be curious."

Samantha saw the grin on the Captain’s face and couldn’t help but smile with her. She was glad to see her attempt at a joke went over well. It didn’t last long though, her eyes were lost in the starlight rather quickly and remained there for a few minutes before she moved on, not wanting to keep the woman or her stomach waiting. The latter of which was growling softly.

The woman was hungry and her stomach was doing everything it could to make that known. “I’m looking forward to it.” She replied with a smile. Samantha was sure whatever Kathryn thought he’d like.  She had never been a picky person so she was more than willing to try whatever she suggested, though even then she was certain there were somethings that ven she wouldn’t touch. Hearing what Kathryn had in mind Samantha smiled slightly that did sound really good. Her mouth actually salivated a little at the sound of it.

“If the the way you described it is any indication it sounds great.”Samanta said trying not to sound too eager. When her eyes landed on the plate she eyed it hungrily, breakfast seemed even longer ago now that she knew she was going to eat soon. Once she picked up the tray she fought the urge to pick at it before she could even seat herself.

“Trust me, it is” Kathryn walked around and pulled out her chair, allowing her to sit  before turning back to the replicator and ordering herself a coffee, black, hot, no sugar or cream. The usual order that she very…very rarely strayed from. There was just something so homely about the brew, it reminded her of winter nights with a good book. 

Stepping back  around and over to the table she sat down on the other chair.  “I hope you don’t mind my joining you. You’ve given me an excuse to sit down and have coffee rather than being on the bridge.”  Of course she was mostly joking, she still TECHNICALLY was off duty as this time, she was supposed to still be on the planet. Still, that was the point in having a second in charge.

“I do trust you.” Samantha replied before she could stop herself. Without missing a beat she gave a slight smile and quickly sat down in the chair Kathryn had pulled out. It was a strange gesture from one woman to another, but she figured it was just her being polite. Nevermind the fact that the woman was very sweet. But Sam couldn’t even think of a time someone had done that for her recently, not even O'Neil did it for her. When she smelled the rich coffee came to her nose she smiled. Sam was about to ask the woman how to use the replicator when she sat down near her. “I’m glad to help.” She chuckled, “And of course sit, it’ll give us a chance to talk.” Sam said as she quickly got herself a fork full from her plate. Bringing it to her lips she ate; chewing slowly savoring the flavor. It was like nothing she’d ever tasted before and like nothing she could really describe. The lemon was there of course, that familiar flavor danced on her tongue. But the uttaberry was like nothing she’d ever tasted before. Before she spoke she took another bite then licked some of the sauce from her lip. “It is really good.”

It was a fleeting moment but Kathryn very much picked up on it, trust was an important thing to come by, to hear this woman trusted her already did instill her with some confidence. 

Grinning Kathryn watched her take a bite, as strange as that seemed it was almost as though she’d made it herself. She wanted to make sure that this woman enjoyed every bite and it seemed like she did. “I thought you might like it, infact something else you might like about the future… Our replicators ensure that the food has all the necessary dietary measures with little to none of the negatives… Meaning you order a bowl of chocolate ice cream and though it might not taste exactly the same, it will be healthy enough for you to eat a second one”  Her tone was playful as she brought the cup to her lips, it was true though, it was practically healthy. Of course try to get drunk on replicated non-alcoholic booze and then see the down side. Synthohol was no better, not that Kathryn was much of a drinker. She tried that once when she was at the academy and realized it was simply not for her.

Samantha really wasn't sure why the words came out like that but she didn't correct herself. She was usually one of those people that didn't trust easily but she felt that in this moment that somehow she could trust the woman before her even though they'd just met.

The flavors danced on her tongue as she quickly ate another bite. She was careful however not to seem like a pig about it, but she hadn't eaten in hours, so her stomach was more than a little empty hungry. "You're a good judge of flavor then." she said licking her lip a little as she ate another bite, quietly listening to the woman's words, but she found herself more than a little shocked by it, "Ice cream that is good for you, isn't that kind of an oxymoron?" Sam asked with a chuckle, that just didn't seem right. She could however fully get behind that, because who doesn't love ice cream? "Recreating anything?" It seemed a little far fetched in her mind but she didn’t question it,  she believed the woman’s words but she couldn’t help it that she was curious about the the whole thing. "The whole thing is like something out of our dreams our wildest imagination. It’s all so fascinating. Jackson would be jealous right now.” She mused with a laugh.

 **MajSamCarter**   Looking to her Sam smiled and nodded her amusement as well as her agreement.  “History is never boring.” She mused, in her eyes it helped them as a race to learn from their pasts. It was how they could shape their future and keep from making the same stupid mistakes over and over again. At the mention of the gate her eyes opened in disbelief but she did manage to smile brightly the idea of that was amazing. surely she had an interesting story to tell about that. “I would love to hear about that later if you don’t mind sharing.” She said with a hopeful smile then shook her head in a now, “You have no need to apologize I’m a bit of a nerd myself when it comes to  technology.” She followed Katlyn into the mess hall , he smiled a bit as if it were needed  “And when is mess?” She asked chuckling slightly as he heard her stomach growl softly. 

The Captain nodded, if this woman wanted to hear her personal piece of history Kathryn would happily oblige, though of course miss Carter’s gate did seem far, far more impressive… Still, her own held quite an emotional attachment. “When ever you’d like.”  

As they walked she watched for a response to the view, the stars that glittered and danced around a moons light near a planet that did not deserve such beauty, Kathryn would often find herself sitting infront of a window and simply taking in the sight as though it were the first time she’d ever seen it. A smile, it wasnt jaw dropping but it was enough, travelling through that Stargate of hers must have desensitized her for the most part…. However she still seemed to appreciate the beauty and that was all that mattered. 

“You’ve missed lunch however I think we can scrap up something from the replicator.” The Captain headed towards the machine and turned to lean on it, facing the blonde. “Just say what ever you’d like and it’ll make it for you.”

Samantha was eager to learn all she could from Kathryn, any knowledge she could take back with her would be wonderful. Though she was aware that ‘too much knowledge’ could be a bad thing, if perhaps knowing too much about the past could alter the future. Of course she had no experience with this but she’d always heard stories of how people can alter the past by knowing too much about the future – it was the start of just about any Sci Fi based movie with intergalactic time travel.  “I admit I haven’t eaten since breakfast.” She answered with a chuckled, “That seems like forever ago.” Sam mused with a grin it was forever ago more like a millennia. But she wouldn’t quite take the joke that far. 

Her eyes had been facing forward at where they were headed until she saw the stars out of the corner of her eyes. She paused a little and slowed her pace so that she could take in the beauty of it all. She’d seen the stars before but never this close.“Wow…I’ve never seen them so close before.” It seemed as if she could have just reached out and touched the stars.

“If it’s not too much trouble, I’d appreciate it.” Samantha replied, her breakfast of a bagel and a couple pieces of bacon were long gone. The coffee she’d had was gone too, the woman needed a little afternoon pick me up. “I’m not picky, you can surprise me.” The idea of having food ‘replicated’ was a curious thing, did they not have food in the same manner as she was used to? Or perhaps it was like the astronauts of her day that used dehydrated food in those packets that required water. She was more than a little curious how the food would taste. She’d tried the astronaut food on a few occasions and while she wouldn’t have wanted it everyday it wasn’t exactly Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner.

The Captain cracked a grin at the silly joke that only she could possibly have made, from that moment she was sure she’d made the right decision in letter her come on board. If nothing else she’d add a little colour to the crew. Stopping beside her Kathryn followed the woman’s gaze, her blue eyes sparkling as the light reflected from the near by star cluster. It didn’t last long before the blonde once again moved. 

“Alright, I think I can find something you may like.” There were many options here, something to give this Major a taste from home, traditional pizza perhaps, or of course something a bit more exotic like an Alien dish, something like Bahgol a Klingon soup that used real Targ blood…. No that probably wasn’t the best idea. “I’ve got it. Computer, one servings of Uttaberry crêpes with the lemon zest source and a side of Larish pie” The Computer buzzed and beeped as a small meal was prepared. Of course she was likely more hungry then this however Neelix -the ships chief- would be quite offended if the newest member of the crew did not have an appetite in the coming hours for the next meal. 

“Its a Bajoran dish thats quite popular amongst the crew. I think you’ll like it.”

Sam nodded, “Thanks. The thing if I questioned you or said some of the things I do with my Captain, I wouldn’t be on your ship long. We’re all respectful of course and O'Neil’s word is final but he and I have an interesting relationship.” She said with a half smile, she did miss him and her own group. But right now she had to keep a clear head to get herself back but her natural desire to help others made it hard for her to put the others around her in danger. “I know you’ll do your best.. And will I, we both need to get back home.” When the door chimed Sam turned quickly as the Captain said ‘Enter’. She couldn’t help but stare a little at the strange markings on the woman’s forehead, it reminded her a little of Teal'c. Finally she forced her eyes away and stood there with her arms crossed loosely at her side listening to the pair. Sam listened to the woman raising a brow slightly, it was except…. how much could this ship actually hold?“Captain if I may?” She looked to the woman for a second as if requesting permission to speak, After a short pause she did, “The actual Stargate probably weighs far too much for your ship to handle. If you could the smaller part of it aboard we might have a chance, I have had to fix one before so it can be done. If I have the right equipment. ” She explained then added, “I might also have an idea how to get you on your way…I’m not sure if it can be done. But if we can reverse the pull of the stargate we might be able to create enough force to get your ship back on course. I believe you said you were stuck somehow Captain? The Stargate generates a lot of power and if we can tap into that we might be able to move you along.” Now Sam was back in her element as she tried to think her way through the situation at hand. 

Kathryn was going to question that comment about this ‘O’Neill’ or even  correct her about her assumption about questioning but the conversation was dropped. Kathryn would not tolerate her crew questioning her authority -not in important situation at least-   though she’d never put them off the ship, this woman was only different in one aspect. She was not part of her crew. This woman -though a soldier in her own time- would be a civilian on her vessel, perhaps there could be something for her to do but even then she would not be under the same rules of those who don the Starfleet Uniform.

“I think you’d be surprised how much weight this ship can handle, our cargo bay can hold just under three hundred tons… We have Anti-gravity plating.” B’Elanna spoke casually but Janeway was more interested in this power.

“When I say we’re stuck, I dont mean literally. We’re about 70 years from earth… But if this gate can generate enough energy we my be able to use that to speed us up… “ She was more speaking out loud rather than making a genuine suggestion, either way though. It was something to think about.

There was so much that could be said about O'Neil, for good or for bad she missed him and the others. But she couldn’t let herself dwell on that, she had to figure out how to get home and help these people. She had always liked helping others, sometimes her need to do so got under his skin but very rarely did he question her motive. She had a good heart and she was very stubborn to boot. Sam would give this woman ever bit of respect that she was owed, civilian or not this woman was above her and she was a ‘captain’ she deserved respect. And Sam for one wasn’t about to get on the wrong side of someone who could actually help her. Her jaw dropped a little, “Wow…” She breathed, that was impressive, the capabilities of this ship was like nothing she knew on Earth. “Sorry for the misunderstanding Captain, but that shouldn’t be a problem, you saw the kind of force the Stargate produces, I have no doubts that I can somehow tap into it’s power to help move you forward.” She told her with a confident nod of her head, “Maybe even have you home in time for breakfast.” Sam added with a cuckle.

Nodding once to the woman with a grin she knew full well, this woman meant every word. The half Klingon seemed less impressed but if she did have any major doubts she wasnt voicing them…

“Torres here is our head engineer,  she’s a genius, perhaps you two could work together getting that thing working the way it should. Send you back to where you came from and us on our way.” Kathryn looked from the blonde to the brunette who still showed hesitation, she’d worked with the woman long enough to know what that look meant. B’Elanna had gone over the same specs Kathryn had, more even, once Major Carter here filled in the rest of the gaps she must have been a fairly good idea what that thing was capable of and more importantly what it wasnt. “Dismissed Lieutenant”

The Klingon turned and walked out giving a quick polite nod to the blonde. “I think we’ve talked enough shop for now. Why don’t I give you a tour of the ship? Show you what we have in the twenty forth century.”

Sam said nothing as the two exchanged looks, she just gave a soft nod of her head and stayed out of it. she was still at a loss when it came to what this ship was actually capable of but she tried her best not to question it too much. She didn’t want to make a fool of herself. When Kathryn spoke to her however she looked to the Captain and nodded, “If she’s willing I would love to work with her, between us I think we can figure out out” She suggested hoping to gain the woman’s approval, Sam could see the distrust in the woman’s eyes but she would prove herself if she was given the chance. 

“When you have it aboard Lieutenant let me know.” Sam said after the captain released her. Her gaze then turned back to Kathryn, “Yeah, okay that sounds great. I wish could offer something in return by century suddenly seems so boring.”

“History is never boring Major… Infact my all time favorite historical event happened around your time.” Stepping towards the doors and out into the corridor she looked the woman over. “Although, in all honesty I am being a little bias…. One of my ancestors helped build the millennium gate, the first self-sustaining civic environment. It was the model for the first colony on mars… It was built right in Portage Creek, Indiana… Absolutely beautiful building… I’d do anything to go back there.” 

Looking back at the woman she offered an apologetic smile. “Forgive me, I ramble. Suffice to say I quite like history…” Walking once more into a section of the ship that had once been her own private dining quarters but now acted as a ships mess hall… But more importantly, the large viewing ports, windows into space. Of course this Major had already seen space, but Kathryn didnt know that. To her she was a woman from the 20th century, just like Amelia Earhart who had stood in awe of the beauty of the view before her. There was something oddly beautiful about a face in awe.

Looking to her Sam smiled and nodded her amusement as well as her agreement.  "History is never boring." She mused, in her eyes it helped them as a race to learn from their pasts. It was how they could shape their future and keep from making the same stupid mistakes over and over again. At the mention of the gate her eyes opened in disbelief but she did manage to smile brightly the idea of that was amazing. surely she had an interesting story to tell about that. "I would love to hear about that later if you don't mind sharing." She said with a hopeful smile then shook her head in a now, "You have no need to apologize I'm a bit of a nerd myself when it comes to  technology." She followed Katlyn into the mess hall , he smiled a bit as if it were needed  "And when is mess?" She asked chuckling slightly as he heard her stomach growl softly.

Alright, Australia’s internet is bad so the government is releasing this thing called NBN which is the national broadband network, so that means no providers will give me internet. The killer here is the government lines wont be ready right away. Some companies are saying November, others are saying early to mid next year. (Ew) SO I am looking at getting prepaid but when thats $150 for 50 gigs its really….really not a good thing and I will have to be real careful with this.  I WILL BE BACK, there is no way in hell im quitting rp. I need rp. So please dont give up on me.

Sam nodded, “Thanks. The thing if I questioned you or said some of the things I do with my Captain, I wouldn’t be on your ship long. We’re all respectful of course and O'Neil’s word is final but he and I have an interesting relationship.” She said with a half smile, she did miss him and her own group. But right now she had to keep a clear head to get herself back but her natural desire to help others made it hard for her to put the others around her in danger. “I know you’ll do your best.. And will I, we both need to get back home.” When the door chimed Sam turned quickly as the Captain said ‘Enter’. She couldn’t help but stare a little at the strange markings on the woman’s forehead, it reminded her a little of Teal'c. Finally she forced her eyes away and stood there with her arms crossed loosely at her side listening to the pair. Sam listened to the woman raising a brow slightly, it was except…. how much could this ship actually hold?“Captain if I may?” She looked to the woman for a second as if requesting permission to speak, After a short pause she did, “The actual Stargate probably weighs far too much for your ship to handle. If you could the smaller part of it aboard we might have a chance, I have had to fix one before so it can be done. If I have the right equipment. ” She explained then added, “I might also have an idea how to get you on your way…I’m not sure if it can be done. But if we can reverse the pull of the stargate we might be able to create enough force to get your ship back on course. I believe you said you were stuck somehow Captain? The Stargate generates a lot of power and if we can tap into that we might be able to move you along.” Now Sam was back in her element as she tried to think her way through the situation at hand. 

Kathryn was going to question that comment about this ‘O’Neill’ or even  correct her about her assumption about questioning but the conversation was dropped. Kathryn would not tolerate her crew questioning her authority -not in important situation at least-   though she’d never put them off the ship, this woman was only different in one aspect. She was not part of her crew. This woman -though a soldier in her own time- would be a civilian on her vessel, perhaps there could be something for her to do but even then she would not be under the same rules of those who don the Starfleet Uniform.

“I think you’d be surprised how much weight this ship can handle, our cargo bay can hold just under three hundred tons… We have Anti-gravity plating.” B’Elanna spoke casually but Janeway was more interested in this power.

“When I say we’re stuck, I dont mean literally. We’re about 70 years from earth… But if this gate can generate enough energy we my be able to use that to speed us up… “ She was more speaking out loud rather than making a genuine suggestion, either way though. It was something to think about.

There was so much that could be said about O'Neil, for good or for bad she missed him and the others. But she couldn’t let herself dwell on that, she had to figure out how to get home and help these people. She had always liked helping others, sometimes her need to do so got under his skin but very rarely did he question her motive. She had a good heart and she was very stubborn to boot. Sam would give this woman ever bit of respect that she was owed, civilian or not this woman was above her and she was a ‘captain’ she deserved respect. And Sam for one wasn’t about to get on the wrong side of someone who could actually help her. Her jaw dropped a little, “Wow…” She breathed, that was impressive, the capabilities of this ship was like nothing she knew on Earth. “Sorry for the misunderstanding Captain, but that shouldn’t be a problem, you saw the kind of force the Stargate produces, I have no doubts that I can somehow tap into it’s power to help move you forward.” She told her with a confident nod of her head, “Maybe even have you home in time for breakfast.” Sam added with a cuckle.

Nodding once to the woman with a grin she knew full well, this woman meant every word. The half Klingon seemed less impressed but if she did have any major doubts she wasnt voicing them…

“Torres here is our head engineer,  she’s a genius, perhaps you two could work together getting that thing working the way it should. Send you back to where you came from and us on our way.” Kathryn looked from the blonde to the brunette who still showed hesitation, she’d worked with the woman long enough to know what that look meant. B’Elanna had gone over the same specs Kathryn had, more even, once Major Carter here filled in the rest of the gaps she must have been a fairly good idea what that thing was capable of and more importantly what it wasnt. “Dismissed Lieutenant”

The Klingon turned and walked out giving a quick polite nod to the blonde. “I think we’ve talked enough shop for now. Why don’t I give you a tour of the ship? Show you what we have in the twenty forth century.”

Sam said nothing as the two exchanged looks, she just gave a soft nod of her head and stayed out of it. she was still at a loss when it came to what this ship was actually capable of but she tried her best not to question it too much. She didn't want to make a fool of herself. When Kathryn spoke to her however she looked to the Captain and nodded, "If she's willing I would love to work with her, between us I think we can figure out out" She suggested hoping to gain the woman's approval, Sam could see the distrust in the woman's eyes but she would prove herself if she was given the chance. 

"When you have it aboard Lieutenant let me know." Sam said after the captain released her. Her gaze then turned back to Kathryn, "Yeah, okay that sounds great. I wish could offer something in return by century suddenly seems so boring."

Nodding once the Captain took a step closer to the woman before tapping her communicator. “Two to beam up.” A moment later they were being transported into a silver and blue room, the walls, floors and ceiling were varying shades of grey and silver, adorned with white and blue lights. The transporter pad was slightly up on a small rising, while a woman in gold stood behind a console. The woman -who’s pips indicated the rank of Ensign, the lowest form of registered officers, equivalent of the Army rank Second Lieutenant- stood at attention the moment the Captain beamed on board. “As you were Ensign.”

Stepping off the transporter pad she walked towards the doors that opened in  her presence automatically. “You’re with me Major” Once again the Captain tapped her communicator. “Janeway to bridge, I want you to begin a scan of the area and surrounding systems for any temporal or spacial anomalies that could result in a wormhole going unstable…I’ll explain when I get there, Janeway out.”

Stepping into the corridor and leading the woman to the turbo lift she spoke the destination and the lift began moving, hopefully by the time they got there the scans would be complete. It shouldnt take long, if they found something going into more detail could take time, but it was time she was willing to spend.

Her eyes stayed focused on the woman with confusion in her eyes, ‘beam up’? Before she could even form the words to ask the question she had the strange sensation like she was floating, what seemed like seconds later she was standing in a very strange looking room. Samantha was too concerned with looking around her, she barely heard the other woman speak, her thoughts were completely elsewhere. It wasn’t until she heard her rank that she came back to reality. Quickly she stepped off the transporter and followed the Captain. She started to speak but when Janeway did she held her breath. Only when she was sure the woman wasn’t going to talk again she dared to speak. Keeping stride with her, “Captain, what… what was that thing? And who do you keep talking to?” She asked looking to the as she followed her into what she thought was perhaps a small room at first until she realized what it was. “An elevator?”

Turning her full attention to the woman now she couldnt help but smirk.  She may have known more about this Stargate but it was clear this sort of technology was -for lack of better term- alien to her, which gave Kathryn some comfort. After all, she was from this womans future, she was supposed to be able to impress her.

“This is a communicator” Plucking the insignia from her chest she held it out to show the woman. “When one taps it, it transmits a signal to the computer and relays the signal in real time to its designated location. In this case, the bridge. Its quite simple really. Something like your walkie talkies but on a larger scale.” 

Stepping out of  the Turbo lift and onto the bridge she continued talking. “And that, is what we call a Turbolift. Similar to an elevator except one major difference. The Turbolifts can go both vertical and horizontal and at a much faster speed. There are fifteen decks on this ship and thats considered small, the galaxy-class Starships have anything over forty two decks.” 

Dragging her attention from the woman to her second in command she listened to his report, the scans had shown a solar flare from the sun closest to this planet at roughly the same time as a power serge on the planet, presumably the activation  from this Stargate. Readings reported a wormhole on the surface of the planet which again, was likely due to this gate. “My assumption Major, the flare caused the Wormhole to destabilize… We’ve seen it before, once a stable wormhole begins to destabilize one end can stay fixed while the other jumps from location to location, in this case perhaps it wasnt jumping from locations due to this Stargate of yours drawing it in, but it wasnt jumping through the Space-time continuum.”

Samantha couldn’t help but be curious about all of this, if she was going to be stuck in this time for awhile she wanted to learn all she could about it.  This was part of her job to learn and explore, that was exactly what she aimed to do. Her eyes followed her movements and nodded slightly as she spoke,“Seems it’s on a smaller scale our walkie talkie are huge. But I suppose you mean the range in which they work?” Sam suggested as she tried to understand everything she could Following her out Sam looked to the Captain as she spoke. Sam chuckled softly, “They can go sideways, and slantways, and longways, and backways…” she mused quoting a line from a movie. Sam blinked at that, “Forty two? How do you even begin to keep that straight? I’m so lost already.” she admitted with a soft sigh. Once they were on the bridge Samantha couldn’t help but let her eyes wonder over everything around her. She was listening to every word though, so when the Captain spoke again her eyes went to her instantly,  “Wow, Daniel would be so jealous…” She said with a light hearted smile, “The million dollar question now Captain is how to we get me back to my time and you on your way?”

“The ships plans are on every deck, the bigger ships you could be on for ten years and still get lost.” She looked over the readings, her first officer curious but staying quiet, the Captain would do a debriefing and he’d be filled in on their guest.

“Major…” She looked up again at the woman, her hesitation not unnoticeable. She heard her pilot question the ‘million dollar question’ comment and felt slightly amused by the generation gap. Small things like they dont use money would come as a shock for this woman… but by the looks of it she’d have time to get used to it. “In my ready room, if you please.”

Leading the way once again she walked to the room off the Bridge, her desk and a few trinkets on the walls, a large three bay window allowing the stars to shine through. Plants on  either side and a lounge chair big enough for at least five people spread from one side ot the other. Kathryn went to her desk. “Major, I dont know how to tell you this but, I dont know. Those flares are impossible to predict, even if we did find one it would be jumping randomly on the other end, we could be sending you further into the future or too far back, we just dont know. I promise you we wont give up getting you home but I highly doubt it’ll be this way. Im sorry.”

“I’ll be sure to look for those plans.” she replied with a soft smile, after all if she was going to be here for awhile she should at least know how to get around. “Have you ever been on one of those larger ship?” Sam asked curiously, perhaps now wasn’t the time for trivial questions but it came out regardless. Her eyes held so many questions that didn’t allow to spill out as she looked to the woman before her, hearing her rank once more she nodded, but then glanced to a few of the crew members who seemed quite confused. She considered explaining herself but didn’t get a chance when Kathryn spoke again, “Yes, Captain.” Without hesitation she quickly followed woman making a mental note of how to get around as well as absently looking for the plans she’d mentioned. What came out of the woman’s mouth wasn’t what Sam wanted to hear, but in the back of her mind she knew she was right, something like that was impossible to predict, even she knew that with her minimal twentieth century knowledge. “It’s okay…  Captain it’s not your fault.” she sighed as her eyes grew distant as if she was far away in thought. She wanted to say more but she was at a loss, Daniel probably could have already been forming a plan, she was smart and she wasn’t discrediting herself, but he knew ancient culture and even advanced ones far better than she did.

“Many times.” Most Starfleet officers would serve on one within their career, perhaps not in a leadership role but they would be stationed there at least once. Kathryn had the pleasure of being an officer on two different Galaxy style ships, though both were different. Kathryn watched as the woman’s expression faded and she came to terms with what exactly she’d been told. It was no doubt difficult and it certainly would get more so before it began to get better. In fact Kathryn intended to make it a little worse any second. Not that she wanted too but she had a duty to her own crew first and foremost.

“Major, we cant stay here indefinitely while we figure out a way to send you home. I’ll allow this ship an extended stop, once we’ve hit the maximum time regulations will permit it, we’ll leave this system. It’ll be your choice, you can stay on the planet or come with us.”

Sam smiled at that, she found this rather amusing in some ways she’d always thought exploring outer space could be fun, but never in her wildest dreams did she think she was going to get the chance. Working with O'Neil and Daniel she assumed that’d be the closest she’d get through the Stargate,  but now she was on a ‘real’ starship.“I bet that quite the experience being on something so big.”

The moment that came out Sam was stricken almost speechless, she managed a few words but they hardly summed up how she felt. Her mind was like a blank canvas right now she didn’t know what to do or even say right now, even though it was racing a mile a minute nothing seemed to help. When the Captain said that, Sam looked at her questioningly, “I don’t have anywhere else to go…. can’t very well stay on an alien planet alone.” she sighed, “I won’t let you jeprodize those on your ship, you said it yourself… there’s no way to pinpoint the flares, we could stay that extended time and be no closer than we are right now. If you think it’s best to moved on sooner do it. I have no choice but to accept your judgment.” It pained her to say that but she was nothing more than a guest on this ship and she was outranked, it was one thing for her to poke at O'Neal and pull rank on him but they had a history. Sam knew very little about this woman or her customs.

“Major, I don’t want you to feel like you have no say in this, you’re our guest and we’ll do what ever we can. But it doesn’t have to be on this planet, we’ll get you home.” She would have continued but she heard the door chime. “Enter.”

Lt. B'Elanna Torres - a half Klingon, half human woman, with dark hair and skin with slight forehead ridges in a uniform matching the Captains all bar the colour- headed towards the Captain and her guest, giving the woman a quick nod. “What can I do for you Lieutenant?”

“Well Captain..” Torres spoke looking between the two. “I think I have a way to help.”

“Give it to me.” The Captain leaned back on her desk, if anyone was going to figure it out, it was the genius Engineer standing before her.

“I was looking over the scans from earlier today, this gate is not fixed. We can beam it up. If we can interface the program into our ships system we could dial it from anywhere we happen to be.” Both Torres and the Captain looked towards the blonde woman, if this plan was realistic, she’d know.

Plants on  either side and a lounge chair big enough for at least five people spread from one side ot the other. Kathryn went to her desk. “Major, I dont know how to tell you this but, I dont know. Those flares are impossible to predict, even if we did find one it would be jumping randomly on the other end, we could be sending you further into the future or too far back, we just dont know. I promise you we wont give up getting you home but I highly doubt it’ll be this way. Im sorry.”

“I’ll be sure to look for those plans.” she replied with a soft smile, after all if she was going to be here for awhile she should at least know how to get around. “Have you ever been on one of those larger ship?” Sam asked curiously, perhaps now wasn’t the time for trivial questions but it came out regardless. Her eyes held so many questions that didn’t allow to spill out as she looked to the woman before her, hearing her rank once more she nodded, but then glanced to a few of the crew members who seemed quite confused. She considered explaining herself but didn’t get a chance when Kathryn spoke again, “Yes, Captain.” Without hesitation she quickly followed woman making a mental note of how to get around as well as absently looking for the plans she’d mentioned. What came out of the woman’s mouth wasn’t what Sam wanted to hear, but in the back of her mind she knew she was right, something like that was impossible to predict, even she knew that with her minimal twentieth century knowledge. “It’s okay…  Captain it’s not your fault.” she sighed as her eyes grew distant as if she was far away in thought. She wanted to say more but she was at a loss, Daniel probably could have already been forming a plan, she was smart and she wasn’t discrediting herself, but he knew ancient culture and even advanced ones far better than she did.

“Many times.” Most Starfleet officers would serve on one within their career, perhaps not in a leadership role but they would be stationed there at least once. Kathryn had the pleasure of being an officer on two different Galaxy style ships, though both were different. Kathryn watched as the woman’s expression faded and she came to terms with what exactly she’d been told. It was no doubt difficult and it certainly would get more so before it began to get better. In fact Kathryn intended to make it a little worse any second. Not that she wanted too but she had a duty to her own crew first and foremost.

“Major, we cant stay here indefinitely while we figure out a way to send you home. I’ll allow this ship an extended stop, once we’ve hit the maximum time regulations will permit it, we’ll leave this system. It’ll be your choice, you can stay on the planet or come with us.”

Sam smiled at that, she found this rather amusing in some ways she'd always thought exploring outer space could be fun, but never in her wildest dreams did she think she was going to get the chance. Working with O'Neil and Daniel she assumed that'd be the closest she'd get through the Stargate,  but now she was on a 'real' starship."I bet that quite the experience being on something so big."

The moment that came out Sam was stricken almost speechless, she managed a few words but they hardly summed up how she felt. Her mind was like a blank canvas right now she didn't know what to do or even say right now, even though it was racing a mile a minute nothing seemed to help. When the Captain said that, Sam looked at her questioningly, "I don't have anywhere else to go.... can't very well stay on an alien planet alone." she sighed, "I won't let you jeprodize those on your ship, you said it yourself... there's no way to pinpoint the flares, we could stay that extended time and be no closer than we are right now. If you think it's best to moved on sooner do it. I have no choice but to accept your judgment." It pained her to say that but she was nothing more than a guest on this ship and she was outranked, it was one thing for her to poke at O'Neal and pull rank on him but they had a history. Sam knew very little about this woman or her customs.

Nodding once the Captain took a step closer to the woman before tapping her communicator. “Two to beam up.” A moment later they were being transported into a silver and blue room, the walls, floors and ceiling were varying shades of grey and silver, adorned with white and blue lights. The transporter pad was slightly up on a small rising, while a woman in gold stood behind a console. The woman -who’s pips indicated the rank of Ensign, the lowest form of registered officers, equivalent of the Army rank Second Lieutenant- stood at attention the moment the Captain beamed on board. “As you were Ensign.”

Stepping off the transporter pad she walked towards the doors that opened in  her presence automatically. “You’re with me Major” Once again the Captain tapped her communicator. “Janeway to bridge, I want you to begin a scan of the area and surrounding systems for any temporal or spacial anomalies that could result in a wormhole going unstable…I’ll explain when I get there, Janeway out.”

Stepping into the corridor and leading the woman to the turbo lift she spoke the destination and the lift began moving, hopefully by the time they got there the scans would be complete. It shouldnt take long, if they found something going into more detail could take time, but it was time she was willing to spend.

Her eyes stayed focused on the woman with confusion in her eyes, ‘beam up’? Before she could even form the words to ask the question she had the strange sensation like she was floating, what seemed like seconds later she was standing in a very strange looking room. Samantha was too concerned with looking around her, she barely heard the other woman speak, her thoughts were completely elsewhere. It wasn’t until she heard her rank that she came back to reality. Quickly she stepped off the transporter and followed the Captain. She started to speak but when Janeway did she held her breath. Only when she was sure the woman wasn’t going to talk again she dared to speak. Keeping stride with her, “Captain, what… what was that thing? And who do you keep talking to?” She asked looking to the as she followed her into what she thought was perhaps a small room at first until she realized what it was. “An elevator?”

Turning her full attention to the woman now she couldnt help but smirk.  She may have known more about this Stargate but it was clear this sort of technology was -for lack of better term- alien to her, which gave Kathryn some comfort. After all, she was from this womans future, she was supposed to be able to impress her.

“This is a communicator” Plucking the insignia from her chest she held it out to show the woman. “When one taps it, it transmits a signal to the computer and relays the signal in real time to its designated location. In this case, the bridge. Its quite simple really. Something like your walkie talkies but on a larger scale.” 

Stepping out of  the Turbo lift and onto the bridge she continued talking. “And that, is what we call a Turbolift. Similar to an elevator except one major difference. The Turbolifts can go both vertical and horizontal and at a much faster speed. There are fifteen decks on this ship and thats considered small, the galaxy-class Starships have anything over forty two decks.” 

Dragging her attention from the woman to her second in command she listened to his report, the scans had shown a solar flare from the sun closest to this planet at roughly the same time as a power serge on the planet, presumably the activation  from this Stargate. Readings reported a wormhole on the surface of the planet which again, was likely due to this gate. “My assumption Major, the flare caused the Wormhole to destabilize… We’ve seen it before, once a stable wormhole begins to destabilize one end can stay fixed while the other jumps from location to location, in this case perhaps it wasnt jumping from locations due to this Stargate of yours drawing it in, but it wasnt jumping through the Space-time continuum.”

Samantha couldn’t help but be curious about all of this, if she was going to be stuck in this time for awhile she wanted to learn all she could about it.  This was part of her job to learn and explore, that was exactly what she aimed to do. Her eyes followed her movements and nodded slightly as she spoke,“Seems it’s on a smaller scale our walkie talkie are huge. But I suppose you mean the range in which they work?” Sam suggested as she tried to understand everything she could Following her out Sam looked to the Captain as she spoke. Sam chuckled softly, “They can go sideways, and slantways, and longways, and backways…” she mused quoting a line from a movie. Sam blinked at that, “Forty two? How do you even begin to keep that straight? I’m so lost already.” she admitted with a soft sigh. Once they were on the bridge Samantha couldn’t help but let her eyes wonder over everything around her. She was listening to every word though, so when the Captain spoke again her eyes went to her instantly,  “Wow, Daniel would be so jealous…” She said with a light hearted smile, “The million dollar question now Captain is how to we get me back to my time and you on your way?”

“The ships plans are on every deck, the bigger ships you could be on for ten years and still get lost.” She looked over the readings, her first officer curious but staying quiet, the Captain would do a debriefing and he’d be filled in on their guest.

Small things like they dont use money would come as a shock for this woman… but by the looks of it she’d have time to get used to it. “In my ready room, if you please.”
