A lot of their dynamics are based on me and my friends !!! And some of them are plots that were attached to stories I wrote with/for my loved ones- thatās why they feel so personal to me :pp
And I wouldnāt say EJās backstory is completely different from ācanonā but it definitely has tweaks. In my version of him, heās like super old HAHA
The ritual took place a long time ago, like I mean closer to the Salem witch trials kinda old. His parents were also religious and the cult that snatched him up were friends of his dadā

His father was also a doctor, while his mother stayed at home (the laws back then Yada Yada.) They did love him though, and he was raised pretty well/respectful considering the times.
The cult incident was not his dadās fault, but religion ruled their town. Religious psychosis got to Jackās father a bit, and he wasnāt exactly in the right state of mind. If he was, he probably wouldāve stopped EJ from hanging with the cult members.
They werenāt considered outcasts by the town because they kept their real beliefs hidden. Most of it was just the usual teachings, albeit askew, so no one batted an eye until way after the sacrifices got out of hand. But by then it was too late.
Jack was their āfinalā vessel. All of the other victims failed to host their god, and he was their last hope. Yet it worked in all the wrong ways. While the entity they summoned did come forth, it got bonded to Jackās soul instead of devouring it entirely.
The demons power was fed by malice and devotion. Greed and hunger. In that moment, Jack was consumed by his rage.
His resentment and hatred for the ones around him synced with the appetite of his possessor, and his resistance was so intense it became a driving force- therefore āsavingā his sanity.
The sacrifice was meant to turn Jack into a host, but since his soul fought back, it turned him into a cage. With nowhere to go, the consciousnessās of both him and the summoned became one.
Itās Jackās heart and mind with the starvation and strength of something otherworldly. His mental state and logic remain unchanged, which is why heās always the most āstableā of the creeps.
He grew up in a loving home. He had no prior issues regarding personal life and coping mechanisms. It was literally just a freak accident that made him into what he is.
However, despite his circumstances, he adapted decently overtime. His upbringing was peaceful but itās good to remember when he was born. Things were strict, the world was very cruel to anyone ādifferent.ā
His mom and dad tried their best, yet their principles were products of their time. Their love was felt, but it was still objectively conditional in a lot of ways. And thatās not mentioning the roles heād been forced into since birth because of the nature of their town.
There is a certain freedom that comes with being what he is. A freedom that would never have been available to him if he stayed human. So he does appreciate that aspect even if he loathes the others.
Jack was considered a prodigy, and expected to surpass his father in the field. He loves knowledge and learning the intricacies of the human body along with its psychology. Being immortal is very convenient when evolution is never ending.
Thatās why he knows so many languages. I donāt really talk about it often, but in Sweet Meat, he calls reader Latin nicknames since that was one of the first dialects he became fluent in.
His age is also why heās the most aware and strict about being respectful to civilians overall. I always throw in Jackās moral compass in drabbles, but heāll literally lecture Jeff if he says something distasteful about women.
Jack has seen how people deemed lesser than get treated by people who would clasp him on the shoulder fondly. Those interactions stuck with him, and he analyzed them more and more as time went on.
The years have taught him to pay extra attention to how he carries himself- man-eater or not, his principles are drilled into him. He doesnāt take pleasure in scaring people or consuming flesh, and heāll go out of his way to eat sleazy men if he sees them.
There have been many nights when heād already had his fill, but he noticed some girl getting followed. Heāll drag the guy into the trees before she even realizes thereās a threat and save the meat for later after dismembering him.
Jack hates anyone unnecessarily cruel and people who arenāt aware of their privilege/where they stand in the world. Heās been alive too long, seen too much to simply brush it off.
His eye genuinely starts twitching if he overhears someone badmouthing their partner for no reason or if theyāre being plain ignorant.
TLDR: Cannibal maybe, so woke heās raising the dead, definitely.
