Interesting documentary (in Spanish) about the influence of foreign thinkers and historians (particularly British ones) on Spain. Includes Hemingway, Brenan, Orwell, Hugh Thomas, Paul Preston, Giles Tremlett and more. The Spanish is a little easier to understand coming from Anglo-Saxon mouths.

Here's the first of a six part documentary on the Spanish Civil War. Major event of the 20th century, vital to understand Spain etc etc. I'll never get round to watching it, but nice to know it's there.

This site is for hispanic stuff I find interesting. It'll be in English; if you need some Spanish to understand anything I'll let you know. 

You start learning a language because you have a great holiday, or you see a great film, or you meet some interesting people.

Keeping up that initial excitement is a problem. I've tried textbooks but they're full of earnest articles about global warming or other languages in Spain (of course Gallego). 

None of that here. I start this in the spirit of being a bit drunk on YouTube or Twitter, but hispanic.

Textbooks are useful but they can make you forget why you wanted to learn the language in the first place… *
