@kcrtanakid from here.
Training supersedes logical thought. Immediately, when Dulse hears the rhythmic ka-thunk ka-thunk ka-thunk ka-thunk in the distance, rapidly approaching him, his eyes widen, facial muscles tightening. Lips curl into a tight frown as he attempts to locate the source of the familiar noise.
Much to his shock and horror, it is a Stakataka. Chasing a child. Training supersedes logical thought, his commander told him. Without a second thought, Dulse springs into action.
LIKE A FOOL, he throws himself at the duo, hand darting to his belt to find and retrieve NAGANADEL’S Beast Ball. The device is flung towards the Stakataka, and with a shrieking wail that pierces the sky, the wasplike dragon ROARS its cry.
“NAGANADEL! DRAW ITS ATTENTION!” He barks his command to the Beast, which looses a STREAM of burning venom and acid towards the Rampart Pokemon. Dulse takes the opportunity to approach the unknown boy, placing himself between the child and the enraged Beast as best he can.
“Stay behind me,” He orders Kubo through gritted teeth. “NAGANADEL! DRAGON PULSE!”
He's not sure what's up with this guy's outfit... but that doesn't stop him from throwing firecrackers at him. And they're lit............
What a strange little thing!
Dulse gently reaches down to pick up the odd, sizzling stick. What is this? He has no idea -- not in the slightest. If only Zossie were here -- she had an odd intuition for knowing what things on this planet were. Perhaps if he brought it back for study he could--
KA-BOOM!
With a violent ( and colorful ) explosion, the firecracker EXPLODES in Dulse’s hand, making him shout with surprise. His visor and suit fortunately keep him from being too hurt, but his ears are ringing from how loud that bang was.
And then the rest of the firecrackers go off.
By the end of it, Dulse is doubled over on the ground, suit covered in ash and the occasional burn mark, groaning in pain and hitting his helmet to fix his scrambled communicators.
No dice. Great. He’d have to fix that.
“Ugh... Naganadel, where -- ” Nope, he just flops onto the ground. Not dead, but he’s going to nap for a bit.
so inbox call?? inbox call. i might turn these asks into threads so Be Careful uwu
attempts to find and refollow all the blogs i missed bc dulse has been on hiatus
His father is a member of the Children of Necrozma. And his mother.
Needless to say, Dulse’s views on religion and the world thereof is very confused.
pro of dating dulse: if you guys share a house it’ll always be clean
cons of dating dulse: hope you like waking up at 5:30 am sharp every day
kcrtanakid:
IT’S HARD FOR HIM NOT TO STARE. Such odd garb this stranger donned, but even stranger was HANZO’S immediate willingness to approach. The ULTRA BEAST was rarely ever drawn out by anyone other than him. Yet, the wild KARTANA encircled them both, softly chittering and scrapping the folds of its mouth together. After having made encounters such as these many times, Kubo had begun to wonder if there was a connection between all of them. “ HELLO? ” // @demerulse
Dulse considered himself difficult to shake. Difficult to surprise with sudden, immediate sights of unusual, unnatural things. He had seen the Blinding One, taken the Beast that Devours the Sun to restore itself to its original RADIANCE. At this point, he believed himself unshakable.
An unregistered, unfamiliar Kartana made him stiffen, and curl his lip in nervousness.
“Stand back, please. Is this... yours?” He asked, visor-covered eyes darting over to Kubo. Memories of sensitivity training to be... considerate of Beast Trainers ( like the Kartenvoys ) taught him not to immediately assume that the Kartana was wild.
“Do you realize how dangerous it is?”
There are more Zossie than he is sure of what to do with.
This was not covered by orientation.
@tenderpoison x
Lips purse tightly together at her answer. Dulse may be oblivious, but he is far, far from being a fool. The woman knows more than she lets on, she has almost definitely seen Zossie. With that specific an answer, there is almost no denying it.
Perhaps, he wonders, all Alolan natives are simply... like this.
“Your description matches her perfectly. I find your second contention difficult to believe.”
His visor is straightened, arm stiff with authority. Dulse takes another few steps up the street, checking for any sign of the small girl nearby. She is nowhere to be found, and, in true Zossie fashion, she is not answering her communicator.
Spectacular. He is stuck with using one of the locals for aid.
“Please, it is vital I locate her. She does not possess a Pokemon for battling--if she is confronted by a wild, she will be defenseless.”
He’s been working on the same report for three weeks.
Clearly, it’s very important.
describe your muse as shittily as possible in the tags.
lionfanged:
mandus blinked a few times at the offered technology, looking between dulse, and then down to the strange artifacts. the datapad from before that he had pulled out to detail his people’s plight, and then… a pokeball? it most certainly looked like a pokeball, but by no means did it seem to be one from earth. he did not have much time, however, to evaluate it before the datapad’s screen switched, drawing his attention away.
‘ … ah. ‘ it looked absolutely horrifying. bug-type pokemon were never things that unnerved him, but something about the unnatural appearance of the creature filling the screen left him… bothered. he found his eyes trailing back to the sharp stinger protruding from its large abdomen, noting it looked a touch too much like a needle for his comfort.
‘ if you… do not mind, i have my own mode of transportation. ‘ lord, what was he getting into?
fishing into his bag, retrieving one of his own pokeballs, it was a deep purple, marked with the finch insignia on its back while decorated with what looked like white clawmarks. ‘ lead the way, and i will be able to follow. ‘
“Very well.”
Dulse turned on his heel, stepping out and away from the surrounding area. Naganadel were big, and releasing one so close to a building could have... consequences.
“Naganadel, stand by.”
Free from its ball, the Dragon-Type roared a guttural cry into the Alolan sky. Dulse barely flinched, stiffly taking a few steps forward towards the serpentine creature’s back and climbing onto it.
“The Ruins of Life. You know the way.”
The ruins are nearly darkening by the time they arrive, sunset beginning to creep below the horizon. The presence of Tapu Lele did little to unnerve Dulse. If it wishes to battle, he will indulge it with Naganadel, which was promptly returned to its ball. In the sunset, Dulse removed his visor, with no further need to keep it on. He could finally see properly in the Alolan night.
“We are here. Native Alolans avoid this area out of respect for the Guardian Deity. I am not afraid of Tapu Lele, however. We will not be disturbed.” Dulse folded his hands behind his back, nodding at Mandus tersely.
“The device you saw earlier is known as a Beast Ball. It was designed by my people, used to capture and restrain Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts are extraterrestrial Pokemon, from alternate dimensions. They possess extreme, alien power. Do you follow me so far?”
lionfanged:
he took the bait surprisingly well. to be surprised was likely something he shouldn’t be feeling, given the behavior dulse had displayed thus far. the fact he had approached a stranger on the street to spill his guts to should’ve been the first sign that dulse was one to trust incredibly easily.
‘ yes, we can… ‘ he trailed off, realizing that perhaps going back to his hotel room would be somewhat awkward. it was a touch TOO private, despite its luxurious fittings to be an apartment all on its own, and he did not want dulse to believe he had other things in mind. … then again, given how dense he seemed thus far, he doubted he would think too much of it.
‘ … go with your idea. i’m a touch too unfamiliar with alola, given that i am only here on business. ‘ he reached down, putting his book into his bag, before pausing, squinting over at dulse.
‘ what is a naganadel? ‘
Without another word, Dulse’s hand moved to his belt, retrieving a strangely patterned, strangely designed Poke Ball. An example of the alien technology he’d explained to Mandus. The ball and datapad are held out to the man, allowing him to examine it.
And on the screen was... an absolutely foreign, and absolutely alien Pokemon, with rubbery skin, luminescent lines tracing its body, massive draconic wings, and an insectoid abdomen and even more insectoid stinger.
“Naganadel are standard issue Guardian Class Ultra Beasts issued to Recon Squad members that pass rigorous examination. They are extremely powerful, capable of doing battle with UB-05 and UB-06 and 07 without fear.”
Mandus is allowed another few moments to study the tablet, before Dulse returned it to his belt, and the ball held up.
“It will fly us to another location if I command it to. I believe the Ruins of Life on the island Akala will suffice. Shall I release it?”
lionfanged:
as dulse detailed his tale of betrayal, it took some considerable effort to not point out the flaw in seeking out random trainers for assistance after such. how was he to trust other trainers to not backstab in kind? to not seek their own selfish gain?
when he thought to reply, mouth beginning to open with yet another push back, another attempt to deny any interest in this, he paused at the utterance of technology.
‘ technology, you say? what a… selfish thing for her to do, to squander your kindness in such a manner, after all you had agreed upon. ‘ in a complete 360, mandus’ eyes snapped up from the page of his book he had been attempting to return to, to fully fix upon dulse. all but seconds before, he had been bored to death by all of dulse’s talk, but now…
‘ this place, it seems far too open for such a critical conversation. if you are truly where you say you are from, there will be many who wish to take advantage of you, of what you have brought to this world. let us go somewhere more private, and finish our talk there. ‘
Selfishness was unheard of. Lusamine’s betrayal was the first time Dulse had ever experienced such... human nature.
Sharing was common among the City. Everyone shared possessions, resources, living space (when possible), even Pokemon were mere rentals.
How could anyone dream of backstabbing? Your neighbor was you.
Mandus’ sudden concern is noted, as is his change in mood. Dulse, however, merely nodded in kind. Validation of his feelings. He knew Mandus was not as cold as he believed.
“Yes... yes it was. I was... unaware the people of this world could be so cruel. It is unheard of, at home. I am pleased to see you hold such similar beliefs.”
Dulse stood up suddenly, the datapad reproduced from his belt and clutched in his hands. Despite the perpetual blank expression covering his face, he had to admit there was some relief flooding through him.
“Certainly. I will not lie, your cooperation is deeply, deeply appreciated. Do you have a secure location in mind? My Naganadel can transport us to a relatively quiet, rural location anywhere on the island, if you do not.”
lionfanged:
the aether foundation got involved…?
he did not recall this. but, he had only been in alola for a short period of time, visiting exclusively for business. he had not made contact with enoche for some time, as well. but, if this was something that president lusamine would have invested her time in, he doubted that the lower levels of employees would be privy as well.
‘ it has no influence over me–but if it is so powerful, it could easily kill me otherwise? ‘ he was uncertain as to how invested he was in a plan that would leave him DEAD. if this thing was to kill them all off anyways, then, well, he would prefer to die within the comfort of home rather than off fighting for some alien race he cared little for.
‘ i don’t believe i have what you are looking for, if the aether foundation failed you. they are generally equipped to be dealing with these sorts of disasters, yes? perhaps you could consider returning to them and making your case a second time. if they failed the first time, surely they have learned and adapted from their initial mistakes. ‘
or, they would fail AGAIN–but either way, it would not be mandus’ problem.
“Absolutely not.”
Dulse’s voice hardened immediately, far more noticeably than he intended it. A sneer of disgust that crossed his lips showed the absolute distaste he held for the Foundation.
Or, perhaps more specifically, its leader.
“The Aether Foundation’s president lied to us. Her goal to defeat the Blinding One was borne from her selfish desire to become some form of heroine. A messiah, to save the world.”
“She failed. She enraged it. Were it not for the actions of another, extremely powerful trainer, it would have destroyed my home, and then your world would fall to its incredible, godly power.”
It is hard not to resist the anger that almost overcame him from saying such. The Blinding One’s roar splitting the skies of the Lightless City was still clear as day in his mind.
“After the technology we shared with her, she stabbed us in the back. We are seeking new trainers to aid us in our quest. I fear that if it is not stopped, the Blinding One’s wrath will make his last rampage seem like a tantrum.”
dulse being harassed by native pokemon is my favorite thing ever
