I want Dexter to find out that Harrison was raped

the way Res re-frames Harrison as a protector of women and children rather than a victim in his own right is unsurprising to me but god I want them to not forget the ways Harrison has been abused (both sexually and non-sexually)

#they touch on it a bit specifically in regards to Dexter's abuse #but they downplay it #even in the Ryan Foster scene Harrison's flashback is focused on the women and girls Kurt killed #not the way Kurt abused Harrison #we could have a Harrison who kills rapists because he was raped #a Harrison who's hatred of rapists is deeply personal #but instead I think we will get a Harrison who kills rapists because he's a protector of women and children #it's part of them trying to make him more likable to the mainstream audience

don't get me wrong I'm sure there are valid critiques of a lot of the erotica that's popular on booktok its just that 99% of the time thats not what people are doing

#and like a lot of the time when I see someone say they have nothing against erotica just the books that are popular on booktok #it's just someone pointing out that the dark romance novel that was clearly marketed as dark romance had dark themes in it #'the love interest kidnaps and rapes the main character'#like yeah I think that was the point #my erotica is pure and wholesome your erotica is degenerate filth

as someone who mostly reads historical nonfiction I do understand why it can be frustrating that "bookish" is becoming synonymous with reading erotica but I also think that women should be able to read porn, masturbate and talk openly to each other about the erotica they're reading

Actually funniest thing about middle age men getting glasses is that they will whinge about how awful it is and how I don't understand because I'm young. It's so fun to just wait for them to remember that I wear glasses that they can in fact see on my face.

The thing thats really interesting to me about Res era Dex is that he has stopped before. For almost 10 years! In the original series he convinces himself that he can't stop. In someways it's a comforting lie. He can't help being the way he is. He can't stop even if he wanted to. So why try. But now? He's stopped before. He could do it again. So he's left with the truth. He doesn't want to stop.

To me Res Dex is a man in the midst of a relapse who’s so high on how good his maladaptive coping mechanisms feel he’s decided he never wants to stop. So it makes sense to me that at some point he’ll crash and want to quit again. It’s a never ending cycle for him.
