Harrison as a character makes complete sense if you understand that what he wants is daddy
why does he go to kurtâs cabin? wants daddy
why does he attack ethan? wants daddy
why does he shoot daddy? wants daddy
Harrison as a character makes complete sense if you understand that what he wants is daddy

some people love to consume media full of rape allegories and then say "huh? rape allegories? there's no rape in this! you're disgusting."
I think people see a man who isn't afraid to actually be an active parent to young kids and thats all it really takes to be seen as a good father in a patriarchal society. People see things like the splinter fairy or Dex bathing Harrison and telling him bedtime stories and they're impressed because the bar is in fact in hell. Dexter as a father fluctuates between neglectful and emotionally incestuous but he deserves the father of the year award because he knows how to change a nappy.
"Dexter is such a good father" is he tho??? is he??
its so odd to me that people act like Harrison is so hard on Dexter when in fact Harrison forgives Dexter so fucking quickly
It would have been so interesting if the og show leaned more into the brian/dexter/debra love triangle of it all. Its there but they could have done so much more with it. If they had let brian live there is just so much there to explore. Once deb finds out, I could weirdly see the 3 of them being this weird toxic situationship dynamic between them where they are all jealous of one another in different ways. Even with brian dead after s1, I felt the writers sort of dropped the fucked up aspect of the brian/deb/dexter in their characterization, does debra ever find out if dexter killed brian for her? S6 would have been so fun too if brian had the full season as dexters conscience, he would have been constantly poking at debra/dexters whole thing like he did that one ep.
I think Brian had to die at the end of s1 for the story arc to work. The first season is written to be a tight story in itself. It's a love triangle. Dex has to choose and he chooses Deb. I'm not sure stringing it out would work. But it would have been fun to have a few more episodes of shenanigans with the three of them.
They could definitely use ghost Brian more. I think ghost Harry is often overused as a exposition device. It would be fun to mix up the ghosts more (tho I understand there are practical reasons why they don't do this). It's not going to happen but it'd be fun to have both ghost Deb and ghost Brian at the same time. Them both trying to pull Dex in different directions and fighting with each other.
If there hadnt been such intense backlash to the debra having feelings for dexter plot, what direction do u think the writers were planning to go? Would they actually have gone full debster incest? A part of me kind of thinks dexters feelings for hannah were originally meant for deb bc it felt soo ooc for him and so forced ( like how am i supposed to believe he wouldnât have killed her after she tried to kill deb)
Also i just find it kind of funny when ppl act like dex didnt have non platonic feelings for deb, its just so obvious to me he did, which it felt like they doubled down on in new blood. Its so boring the majority of fans act squeamish with the incest (not even blood related) when its a show about killing people, get a grip
I think s7 would have gone similarly but I do think they would have gone full sexual incest in s8. I think they were still playing with the possibility in s7 leaving their options open. As for Hannah the end of s7 felt like they were setting Hannah up to be an antagonist so maybe they would have gone that direction with her in s8.
They absolutely doubled down on Dex having feelings for Deb in New Blood. In the original show they chickened out and made his feelings ambiguous. You can interpret his love for her as romantic or familial in the original but in New Blood the Dex/Deb stuff is so blatant I'm reluctant to even call it subtext. And it's all in his head so its all him. I think they had a bit more creative freedom with New Blood.
After Astor and Cody (pls pls pls) Angela and Audrey are the characters I want them to bring back the most. Angela feels like such a loose thread. Are we really supposed to think she completely changed her mind about Dexter? That after being convinced he is a serial killer she was just like whoops guess I was wrong. Does she really think Dexter killed Logan in self defense? Especially considering what Harrison told her?
I guess what I mean is either:
a) Angela fully believes Dexter is the BHB and killed Logan so he could escape and they're "even" because??? Why?? It's one thing for her to decide to let the whole BHB thing go (killing killers and all) but Logan??
b) As Teddy seems to indicate she thinks she was wrong about Dexter being the BHB and believes he killed Logan in self defense in which case what are they "even" about? Him lying to her? Like sure I accused you of being a serial killer, arrested you, and locked you in a cell where one of my officers tried to kill you but you lied to me so we're even.
c) She believes he's the BHB but thinks killing Logan was self defense. This makes a little more sense but why does she think it was self defense? What about what Harrison said to her?
d) She believes Dexter is the BHB and killed Logan to escape but realised she doesn't have enough concrete evidence. She wants Dexter to believe they're "even" but they are in fact not at all even.
Now its possible that the writers just wrote themselves into a corner with NB and want us all to forget the giant gaping plot hole that is Logan. However the fact that Logan is bought up two more times in Res (including in the season finale) gives me hope they're laying the ground work for something.
he just wants daddy to tell him everything will be ok
Harrison: what about you murdering Coach Logan
Dexter: don't worry buddy it was self defense
Harrison: okay â¤ď¸
Harrison: yay â¤ď¸
