The Vampire Lestat: One Night Only - LIVE at the Beacon Theatre via katyatolstova
the failure(s); the many loves of the vampire lestat

The twirl is lethal.
Richard Gadd, who wrote baby reindeer and then spent months fielding endless questions from journalists about his trauma, writing Niall fielding endless questions from journalists about Ruben and being pissed off because none of them are asking about the work, just the sordid parts of his personal life. I see you bestie.
THE HALF MAN FOURSOME | GOTHAMS (JUN. 1, 2026)
Half Man | 1x05
Richard Gadd writing imperfect survivors is so important to me. No one ever wants to think of survivors as fucked up in a way that isn't palatable or think of what happens if you don't have the resources to recover gracefully- they see it as a type of disrespect I think. I like a show that gives you a horrifying introspection to that. Trauma is something that will rot inside of you if you don't figure your shit out but a lot of people don't have the circumstances that allow them to do that. Or they don't have the language to even realize its happening. And like, people need to be aware of that. You think it can't happen to you but it can!! And the fact that half man specifically is all about the love can't be over looked. Like yeah, those are guys who could have been good if the situation was different but it wasn't. And love never made anyone more rational. And a lot of victims love their abusers. A lot of abusers love their victims. And it doesn't make it okay, but like again. You think it can't happen to you. But it can.
And when I call, you come home, a bird in your teeth.
HALF MAN (2026)
This is my petition for Richard Gadd to create a TV series inspired by Yuri Boyka (with a splash of Orange Is the New Black), where a gritty main character navigates the Scottish prison system.
He is evil incarnate…until you catch a glimpse of his humanity when he swoops in to save his lanky golden retriever of a cellmate from being attacked.
Thus begins the redemption arc, alongside an exploration of nature vs nurture, toxic masculinity, and homoeroticism within male prisons.
And dare I say it: a tragic love story between the two men.
absolutely diabolical song choice
theres something about the way the fandom/audience response to half man mirrors the arc of the show so far - the very real and intense romanticization of their relationship and eroticism, the what-ifs and could-have-beens, the obsession, the shipping. Before we knew Just How Bad It Got it was like yeah lol what if they bone in that barn if only they kissed here what about that hug how about--
We are so drawn in and waiting with baited breath for a glimpse of the purity of what they had as kids (did they ever actually have it?) and at every turn it sours harder, turns from further from yearning into horror, enacts these rituals of shame and humiliation over and over, and it is constantly recontextualizing the present at the wedding into something so dark... someone more eloquent than i could weave these things together more fully, but i'm watching my own shipper brain go through the same garbage disposal niall's childhood crush on ruben is in as time goes on and its fucking delicious
I’d love to know if the role of class in Half Man is fully truly understood by the US audience.
If Ruben and Niall came from Glasgow’s leafier neighbourhoods, the peacocking and fear of physical violence would be different. They’d still be a nightmare 1000%, but the expression of their obsession would take a different shape.
I’ve come to understand that a British audience picks up on the implied character traits and your place in the social hierarchy intuitively - the supermarket you shop at, the way you speak, the school you go to, says a lot about who you are.
Class of course exists in the US, but we try to operate under the illusion that it doesn’t define who we are by society.
Half Man is the closest we as a society have ever gotten to the organically raw feeling that Wuthering Heights invokes
Half man ends and The Vampire Lestat begins. Pain and misery back to back just the way I like it 🙂↕️❤️
