Skincare: Basics + Layering Products
Taking care of my skin has always been, and always will be, my favourite part of my day. There's something therapeutic and so satisfying about cleansing skin, though maybe that's just me.
Here's my skincare routine for Oily/Combination/Sensitive skin!
I understand that when you're younger, you don't really think that skincare is something interesting, or necessary since your skin isn't wrinkled or damaged (yet). But that's a common misconception, and everyone (yes, even people with perfect skin) need to start as early as their 20's. This is to prevent any premature wrinkles, sunspots and sun damage, as well as just to keep your skin elastic and healthy.
Healthy, glowing skin isn't achieved just by the products you use, but through the food you eat as well. Make sure that the food you consume is not processed (as much as possible), and as fresh as can be.
Cleanser - The foundation of all your skincare should always be your cleanser. Cleansing your skin properly takes away any excess oils, dirt, dead skin cells, and makeup. If done properly, your skin will be smoother and brighter, making you look less pale and maputla. Try cleansing your skin using a konjac sponge to really work the product into your skin. And every other day, for a light exfoliation, use a face brush.Though it may seem like a chore, but using a sponge and a face brush stimulates blood circulation, therefore your cells regenerate quicker, resulting in glowing, healthy skin.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Cleanser, ZenNutrients Tea Tree Facial Wash, Konjac Sponge from Korea, Muji Facial Brush.
Toner - Though some people don't find toning necessary, I personally do. Your skin after cleansing is very tight and dry, using a toner helps restore your natural PH balance back into your skin, as well as prepping your skin for the rich products you are about to layer on top of it.

Essence/Light Lotion - An additional step, really. I personally use Essence or Light Lotion because my skin is very dehydrated. If I use just moisturiser alone (despite how rich and hydrating), my skin tends to flake and get rough. I like using these products because they're rich in Hyaluronic Acid, which is a substance actually present in the body. This acid retains a lot of moisture, and keeps your skin looking plump and bouncy!

Moisturiser - I am very picky when it comes to my moisturiser. I don't like having heavy creams on my skin (plus, they just do not work for me). I've found that my skin responds very well to oils and Moisture Gels. They're lightweight, and very hydrating. For the oil, it's my very own concoction and I find that it works very well for scarring! I'll share the "recipe" in my next entry.

Sun Protection, Scrubs + Treatments - Sun protection is essential. Most people don't realise this but wrinkles and early ageing of the skin could be caused by sun damage. After your skincare regimen, always (always) apply a sunscreen. Once a week, I try to pamper myself. This isn't just because I like to treat myself to a spa night (which I think everyone should, really), but also because your skin will thank you for the indulgence!

I understand that it may seem like a bit much, but understand that my skin is very sensitive to dirt and dust, so I take good measure in my routine. This is what personally works for me, and it may or may not work on you. It's all about finding products that work best for your skin and your needs. Investing in your skin need not cost a lot of money, but it takes investing your time. Thank you for reading and good luck!
