“I do the same thing over and over, improving bit by bit. There is always a yearning to achieve more. I’ll continue to climb, trying to reach the top, but no one knows where the top is.”
Jiro Ono, 85 year old shokunin, from the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi (via inlightend)
Always look ahead and above yourself. Always try to improve on yourself.

Don’t know if any of you have heard of Sukyabashi Jiro before, but it is considered the best sushi restaurant in the world. There’s a documentary about it called “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”. An 80-year old man named Jiro has a tiny restaurant in a subway station in Tokyo that requires reservations a year in advance. Plates are $300-$400. But his obsession for the perfect sushi makes it worth the price and wait. He has access to the finest and freshest ingredients. His two sons are also sushi chefs and the youngest one even has an identical restaurant with slightly cheaper prices.

Once you decide on your occupation… you must immerse yourself in your work. You have to fall in love with your work. Never complain about your job. You must dedicate your life to mastering your skill. That’s the secret of success… and is the key to being regarded honourably.
