ES 332 UPMSI, BOLINAO
During our tour at the University of the Philippines - Maritime Science Institute at the municipality of Bolinao in the province of Pangasinan, I observed on our way to the nursery of the giant clams that the area was infested with dead milk-fish floating around. I was not able to ask the operator of the “bangka” on what was the cause of the fish kill in the area because of the inclement weather during our tour and some difficulties in manipulating the “bangka”. Upon our arrival at the nursery area, the operator brief us for a short time and caution us not to dive deeper and touch the clams and the sea urchins around it because it was too dangerous. He also told us to always wear our life jacket and we can float above the giant clams and not go to far away from the “bangka”. After 30 minutes of floating above the giant clams and maximizing the amazing views around and under the water, the delegation decided to return to the place that were we aboard the “bangka” but before reaching the endpoint, we had a glance of the fish pens at the place but we did not manage to go nearer or climb in the the fish pens because of the engine malfunctioning of the “bangka” that we were in.
The trip to UPMSI is very recreational, beneficial, useful and significant to our training and studies here in the academy and also as an individual that is concern in the marine biodiversity of the country but the time that we had spent in the tour on the nursery of the giant clams and the fish pens was not that much fun with because that the “bangka” that we were in was always experiencing engine malfunction. We did not fully maximize the tour.
There were many environmental concepts that can be seen in the Science Centrum in Marikina during our short tour at the place, one this this is the Universal Joint that is most commonly used in shafts that transmits rotary motion.
Another one is this kaleidoscope effect.
