“The outer world is a reflection of the inner world. Other people’s perception of you is a reflection of them; your response to them is an awareness of you.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
“I am that infinite ocean of consciousness in which all happens.”
—Nisargadatta
Andreas Achenbach (German, 1815–1910), "Storm at Sea off the Norwegian Coast" (details I), 1837. Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main.
"When we rest in the present moment, a space reveals itself. It is an inner space that is unoccupied by the cloud of thoughts.
Without witnessing that space, it is hard for the mind to see beyond its own interpretation of reality. This mind fabricates something, and then tries to seek it. Mind creates something and then tries to get rid of it.
Just like the illusion of self. Mind creates the illusion of self, and then mind also tries to either maintain it, or get rid of it. Mind creates suffering, and then tries to get rid of the suffering. But mind does not know that the suffering is its own creation.
When we leave mind alone, we arrive at a point where mind dissolves, and where we know nothing, and we are left - innocent like a new born child. Then the ground of all things reveals itself. Emptiness reveals itself, just like when the clouds move away, the majestic mountain reveals itself.
Then we glimpse the ground of all things without any veils, barricades, or walls, between our consciousness and the truth itself. We glimpse it, just as we glimpse everything around us. Then absolute truth is transparent, immediate, and luminous."
—Anam Thubten "The Magic Of Awareness"
Sailing Ship on a Calm Sea by Moonlight by Ivan Aivazovsky, 1897.
"Sometimes I am empty for a very long time.
I have no identity."
- Marguerite Duras, from No More [C'est Tout) translated by Richard Howard
Allow yourself to sit quietly, with mindfulness and concentration. Allow your breath to follow its natural rhythm. Enjoy your in-breath and out-breath. Don't strive; relaxation will come. When you are completely relaxed, healing takes place on its own. As we sit, we may become aware that outside, up in the sky, there are so many stars. We may not be able to see them, but they are there nevertheless. We are sitting on an amazingly beautiful planet, which is revolving in our galaxy, the Milky Way, a river with trillions of stars. If we can have this awareness when we sit, what else do we need to sit for? We clearly see the wonders of the universe and our planet Earth.
Sitting with this kind of awareness, we can embrace the whole world, from the past to the future, and our happiness is boundless.
- Thich Nhat Hanh, in "How to Connect".

The reason you want it so badly is because you’re meant to experience it.

“I hadn't told them about you, But they saw you bathing in my eyes. I hadn't told them about you, But they saw you in my written words. The perfume of love cannot be concealed.”
~ Nizar Qabbani, Arabian Love Poems
(Qaṣā'id Ḥubb 'Arabiyya)
Nizar Qabbani could be considered, in a certain sense, the Arab counterpart of Pablo Neruda. He was a truly wholehearted lover and used a language that felt immediate, intimate, and alive. Through his words, love became something both sacred and human, a celebration of passion, vulnerability, and the endless wonder of encountering another soul. He saw the sacred in the human and the human in the sacred, revealing love as a place where the earthly and the transcendent meet.
Heaven is on this earth, at least for those who love truly and sincerely. It exists in the embrace and union of lovers, in the deep mystery of two souls encountering one another and discovering something eternal within that connection.
Among the Sierra Nevada, California by Albert Bierstadt
“And yet, the memory of paradise never completely vanishes. Its glory is not lost but veiled, and there are moments when the veil is lifted.”
~ Louis Dupré, The Quest of the Absolute
„Wohl bin ich ein Wald und eine Nacht dunkler Bäume: doch wer sich vor meinem Dunkel nicht scheut, der findet auch Rosenhänge unter meinen Zypressen.“
I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness will find banks full of roses beneath my cypresses.
