YOURE ALIVE!?
ALIVE & WELL :)
The more I think about it, the more excited I am about a potential Adult Jazz spin off. It would literally make my whole year.
PS: I loved this series since I was 15, a whole decade, and I will continue to love it. Itâs the only series Iâve ever attached to and the only one Iâve re-read more than twice. Itâs a staple in my life. Jazz is everything.
Thanks to Kit on TikTok for this amazing primer on I Hunt Killers and Before the Hunt!
BEFORE THE HUNT is available now! The prequel to the New York Times bestselling I HUNT KILLERS is now on shelves.

Listening to the IHK audiobook and falling in love with the series all over again. What a masterpiece the IHK series is
Howie: "So I'm part of the plan?"
Jazz: "Of course, you idiot. Do I ever do anything crazy or illegal without you?"
Howie: "I feel so much better now."
In the words of Stan Lee: 'nuff said!
(Read the first four chapters of the book here!)
ââJasper Francis Dent,â Howie mused. He said it several more times, giving it different inflections and different emphases: âJasper Francis Dent. Jasper Francis Dent.â Finally, he should his head. âNah, it doesnât work. Doesnât sound right. I donât think youâre a serial killer.â Carefully stepping through tall weeds and dead stalks of soybean plants, Jazz muttered, âWell, thatâs a relief.â But deep down, he was surprised by how grateful Howieâs pronouncement made him feel.â
â I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga
Hey, I loved the I hunt killers series. At one point Jazz doubted that he was a sociopath. Was he actually or was it just his coping mechanism to get through the years? (I'm like 99 percent sure his a sociopath)
Medically, one must be 18 or older to be officially diagnosed as a sociopath, so itâs currently a moot point for 17-year-old Jazz. He slips by on a technicality! But itâs a very thin line for him -- he could go either way, really. Itâs left to the reader to decide if he is or isnât, and what the implications are. Glad you liked the books!!!
Hi! I'm curious. How tall is Jazz Dent?
Average height, probably 5â˛10-5â˛11-ish.

Hey! Just wanted to drop in and say thanks for the I Hunt Killers series, it always makes it possible for me to read when my attention is all over the place. Also, wishing you luck finding a publisher for the adult Jazz series! Would definitely read that. Cheers!
Youâre welcome! And thanks!
If IHK became an adult series, I would spontaneously combust is happiness. Probably.
âWhat's it like to go looking for your soul, only to learn you never had one to begin with?â
-Blood of my Blood (I Hunt Killers) by @barrylyga
Artwork is of Jasper âJazzâ Dent. This is one of my favorite book series of all time and I really really wish more people would read it. đ
Howie: You know what they say. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Jazz: If I cut your arm off, would that make you stronger. Really. Would it?
Howie: ....
Howie: Jazz. Really.
1 Small Part of why I Hunt Killers Whump is SO GOOD
One of my favourite things that Barry Lyga does in his two biggest whump scenes in the I Hunt Killers trilogy is that before Jazz has the chance to pass he out, thus ending the scene (as often happens in books. The character passes out at the end of a fight and wakes up somewhere like a hospital) he cuts to the perspective of a character who cares about him a lot in spite of the fact that he doesnât want to. This allows for a couple awesome things to happen:
1. You see Jazzâs injuries and predicament from an outside perspective and they can be visually cataloged. 2. You get a supporting characterâs emotional reaction to seeing him like that. 3. You see the character interact with him in the moments leading up to him passing out and, just as importantly, in the moments after.
In these moments Jazz is exhausted and in incredible pain so getting the pure emotions of empathy, fear, and concern from another character who happens upon him and discovers what has happened is SO REFRESHING (and heartbreaking).
Sorry about this I Hunt Killers spam lately. I just finished the series and I have a lot of feelings about this whump and no one to talk to but you guys!
I just really, really, miss Jasper Dent </3
