Text:
NO ONE CAN TAKE SELF PUBLISHING AWAY FROM YOU.
NO ALGORITHMS OR OLIGARCHS CAN CENSOR YOU.
NO GATEKEEPERS CAN TELL YOU WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY IS NOT IMPORTANT OR VALUABLE.
NO GRANT FUNDING CAN BE WITHDRAWN FROM YOUR WORDS.
NO INSTITUTION CAN BAR YOU FROM ENTERING.
NO KNOWLEDGE IS UNAUTHORIZED.
THAT IS WHY YOU MUST MAKE ZINES!
“Start telling the stories that only you can tell, because there’ll always be better writers than you and there’ll always be smarter writers than you. There will always be people who are much better at doing this or doing that - but you are the only you. Tarantino - you can criticize everything that Quentin does - but nobody writes Tarantino stuff like Tarantino. He is the best Tarantino writer there is, and that was actually the thing that people responded to - they’re going ‘this is an individual writing with his own point of view’. There are better writers than me out there, there are smarter writers, there are people who can plot better - there are all those kinds of things, but there’s nobody who can write a Neil Gaiman story like I can.”

- A bit of writing advice from Neil Gaiman. (via faramirs)

not gonna lie, every time i read some of neil gaiman’s advice on writing i burst into tears, because he makes me feel validated, instead of like a gigantic fraud pretending i’m a writer

I always refer to this as the issue of sincerity. It’s why derivative works are so widely reviled. People can sense insincerity in a work of art, and they find it repulsive.

“And — and here’s a thing — how about, just for the hell of it, you think about making material you can’t find on the internet? Sold on the internet, unfolded in the physical world. Just as a stance, as a point for consideration, why not unplug the work and enjoy the physical magazine as a thing that isn’t networked and doesn’t require electricity to read. Because… because, sometimes, it doesn’t hurt to fetishise the physical every now and then, for one thing, but because… The other day, writer Melissa Gira Grant was hanging around in a coffee shop in New York, and twittered that she was there. And if you went to visit her, she’d spend five minutes reading to you from her diary — on the condition that you recorded none of it on the net. No twitter, no flickr, no blogging, no nothing. The exchange for her time was to keep the experience physical, not digital. Which I think is an interesting point. And a magazine is something that I, in any case, take away from the computer to read.”
— Warren Ellis » Paper Nets, or, “hey kids should we make a magazine?” (via melissa)
Der Ursprung der Teufelshörner.
100% by Paul Pope aka @comicsdestroyer is an underrated gem of a comic book. The best parts are the food scenes, which are rarely seen in comics, but always appreciated. . . #readmorecomics #readforinspiration #paulpope
Whenever I feel unsure about what comic to do next, I go back to my favourites to find new facets and themes that might spark a new idea. At the moment, to me the most interesting thing about Akira is the depiction of the different youth gangs. . . #readmorecomics #readforinspiration #comic #manga #katsuhirootomo #akira #goodforhealth #badforeducation
