I'm wrapping up the work week by moving old show files that were sent to me by Paramount that I scanned to the garage to shred, and this little critter followed me. A couple of times, it followed me into the house, so I picked it up and moved it back outside. I held it on its back and rubbed its belly like I did in summer camp to blue-bellied lizards to see if it would fall asleep - no dice...it just kept looking at me. I put a ruler next to it - it's 9.5 inches from head to tail. A great night seeing the film "The Power of the Dog" with a live orchestra. This is the second film I've seen in the last few months presented this way - it heightened the experience, which is the best way to see a film. While on my way tonight to dinner with friends, I received a call from the show "1883." They're ready to deliver the next episode but had a couple of questions for me before they proceed. However, they said it could wait until Monday morning, as they didn't want to stand in the way of any Friday night plans. I said, "Okay...I'll wait until Monday...unless I see a sign or an act of nature that tells me otherwise." As I'm going east of Sunset Boulevard, this sign comes into view - and it looks like Faith Hill is judging me through my dirty car windows. I thought, "Well, that does look a sign, doesn't it?" As I'm typing this, I just sent the production an email. A very hectic and hot day. After being scolded by someone for working on the weekend and not getting out of the house today to take advantage of a very good offer, I went to the Super Bowl very late today and left early to beat the traffic. The half time show was awesome! - loved the shout out to some of Compton's landmarks, like Tam's Burgers (I believe it's owned by Greeks). On my way back, I dropped my phone and have a new crack on the glass (again), got a little sunburn on my nose - and it's back at the computer working away for a long week :-). It was a pleasure meeting sports commentator Michael Irvin at a pre-Superbowl party. He was introduced to me by one of the event organizers and at first, I didn't recognize him. I usually see him on TV in a suit and tie, so the t-shirt threw me off. He's a riot - we had a lot of good laughs. Off the top of my head, I think he played for the Dallas Cowboys at one time as a wide receiver. A late visit to the Hsi Lai Temple to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and the year of the tiger. I've always been fascinated with religions from around the world, as I learn a lot about people from other cultures by what they find important. I had a nice chat with some of the monks who were trying to figure out where I came. One of them said (in broken English), "You're like a visitor from a far away land who's come to investigate us." I told them they weren't that far off. We discussed some of the things to look forward to this coming year - I said for those who decide to recreate themselves after a long pandemic, it'll be a year of discovering hidden talents or locating hidden masters (just like the idiom "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"). Before I left, they asked me a pretty hard question: "What are the four Asian tigers?" A VERY enjoyable evening with libations and friends who I haven't seen in a while at a screening of the film "Belfast." I was also introduced to Kenneth Branagh, the film's director, afterwards by his publicist and we had an interesting chat on Irish culture and how the tumult of Belfast affected the way people in the area perceived life during a certain era. We also discussed an old movie he was in called “Dead Again” and had a couple of good moments talking about it.
