Me and Amy trying not to cry
My ratchet parter in crime
Barcelona Nights
As the days get closer to go home, we started to realize that we have not lived the study abroad experience to the fullest. When I mean the experience, I do not mean traveling and sightseeing, I mean day partying, breaking night and partying every single night until our body crashes. At the moment, it sounded like the perfect idea to introduce our spring break but our body nor our homework agreed with that idea. The good thing about this 8 day streak is that we did not need to drink. Kels analyze this 8 day streak in her blog and I'm going to use her idea try to introduce a new point of view of it.
Wednesday @ Otto Zutz- "I just found three wallets."
Thursday @ Bling Bling- "Do I still look the same without makeup and with my poof?"
Friday @ La Fira- "Hablame sucio"
Saturday @ Catwalk- "Does my butt have a 'Touch Me' sign on it?"
Sunday @ Mojito Club- "We have to buy $5 water to dance Salsa?"
Monday @ Jamboree- "So your mans gave me the wrong time on the email and it's still my fault?"
Tuesday @ CDLC- "We can dance without touching each other, from a distance."
Wednesday @ Otto Zutz- "Not only did you make us take a detour but you won't pay for our cab?"
Homework you say?
I can't seem to understand the importance, meaning, or value of homework anywhere I go. Why would anyone think that homework is number one priority in a foreign country where clubs don't close until 5am. Just kidding. I do my homework, I am just still dreading the fact that I am currently working on essay number 1 of 3 rather than dancing salsa at the Mojito Club. If sports aren't taken seriously in schools here in Spain, neither should homework. Sports are good for the body... homework sends you to the hospital.
Third Time's a Charm
On Wednesday, I went to a lounge called Otto Zutz and I found not one, not two but THREE wallets on the floor. Neither of them had any cash, except one who had 20 Durham's, but they had IDs, credit cards and metro cards. I found all three within 20 minutes and they were about 2 feet from each other.
I don't know if I was considered lucky or just someone with more responsibility.
It could have been worst for them if those wallets had end up in the wrong hands.
This rain needs to go away. My knees are aching and I can't stand up for too long. Come on Barcelona, this old lady is begging you to return the good weather.
Name Mix-Up
I went to see my internship coordinator to ask her a question and she enthusiastically yelled out "Hola Nicole!" I thought it was a mistake but throughout the entire conversation she was still calling me Nicole. She sent me to one of my other professors to ask for a handout and when I came back to her to hand it in she yells "Gracias Nicole!"
Normally, everybody calls me Amy, unless it's family.
I know that is my middle name but, where did that come from? I mean, I don't mind but that made me miss home a little.
Overstaying My Welcome in Sevilla
Had to arrive in to Sevilla in order to leave to Morocco. Then, had to come back to Sevilla in order to leave to Barcelona.
I spent way too much time there. It's a wonderful place and all but honestly, two and a half days in Sevilla is way too much. Beautiful weather, architecture, and roads. Horses everywhere. Bull souvenirs everywhere you turn. The beautiful Plaza España square. It was incredibly beautiful and I loved it. But, nothing beats my Barça.
I did get a tan though. We found this good location by the river, a.k.a our beach, and just laid down and caught a really strong tan.
Our flight was at 7 am on Tuesday morning and the airport opened at 4am so Priscilla and I were being cheap and did not want to pay for a hostel knowing we had to be at the airport by 5 anyway. So, we came up with this not-so-clever idea of bar hopping for the night since nothing in Sevilla is 24 hours. We ended up finding out that Tex Mex was open until 4am so we thought everything was figured out. Negative. We were so tired from the sun and from walking that we were willing to pay for another night. Instead, we begged the hostel owner to let us stay on the couch for free until 3:30 since the buses didn't start running until 4AM. I wish I could've gotten his name. May God bless him though.
Side Note:
In Plaza España, there were these stations of all the cities in Spain and of course we just couldn't stay away from our home...
New words...
WaHa- Okay La Shokran- No Thank You Shokran- Thank You
Blue City, Chef Chaouen
It's Time for Africa
Marruecos. Morocco. Land of beautiful scenery, potential popular photo on Instagram and selfies. Here is one to prove it...
First of all, I want to thank Daniela for telling me about this program, Priscilla for convincing me and my bank account for allowing me to go through the process. To think that I was so close in not going gets me upset because that would’ve been the biggest regret of my life.
I Spent two days total in Morocco— Friday night, Saturday and Sunday until about 9pm.
Blue City, bargaining, shopping, eating, henna, sangria (soda) party, bread, tea, biscuits, beach, sunset, Assila, more bargaining, camel riding, camel selfies… that is what I did that weekend.
The Blue City was just ridiculously awesome and unbelievable. I really felt like a smurf. I don’t understand what people find in big cities with skyscrappers and clear glass windows. Please visit Morocco if you are deciding whether to go to New York or LA for a vacation.
Moroccans are just the sweetest people in the entire universe. I am probably exaggerating but who cares. I was not harassed by an old man (well, I was hit on once I got off the ferry but that doesn’t count), no one looked at me weird for being American, and everyone wanted to start a conversation. They did try to overprice me with their goods but who can blame them? Americans don’t know how to bargain. Luckily for me, I have some type of New York and Dominican mentality in me and I did a great job bargaining. I got a 50€ duffel bag for 30€, 8€ sandals for 5€, 12€ rug for 10€ and some other things.
Side note
My rug came with a story:
This rug was handmade by a village girl named Fatima. The symbols on the rug represent peace and protection, which represents her needs in life. The colors are vibrant because she was young and energetic and wished of one day leaving her village in search of love, peace and protection.
Thanks Simo.
Most of my bargaining were successful for one reason… I interacted with them, asked about their families, how they were doing and how they made their products. Also, I was probably the darkest American in the group so that came to my advantage. Everybody thought I was from Morocco or the city of Marrakech and waited for me to speak Arabic. Ha! This was in my favor because I got good deals!
Camel Riding: It was a sad yet beautiful experience. When it was my turn to get on, I found myself struggling because my legs were too short to reach over so the guy helped me get on. I had to get on the first camel, who had a muzzle and spit/foam all over it. He was the stubborn once. He refused to get up and when he did he refused to go down when the ride was over. Let me tell you, I was even called fat in this trip. Well not directly but the camel guy was laughing at me struggling to hold on cuz Mr. Camel was going tok fast and he goes “Oh Camel strong” and laughed. Are you saying I’m fat therefore the camel is strong? Hmm. Made me reevaluate my life and eating choices a little and I also began to analyze my pictures too much.
I didn’t eat dinner that night. Let’s just put it like that.
Do I really look that strong? I mean, my thighs look a little bit bigger than usual but I'm pretty sure this camel has carried more than my weight.
Can it be #timeforAfrica again?
Why have I not blogged about Morocco yet? Laziness.
European Airports
1. You can bring FOOD! 2. Liquid measurements aren’t that important 3. Need to shave or tweeze your eyebrows? No biggie, bring on the razor and tweezer on your carry on.
Things that just aren't okay
Opening the doors of the metro before it even stops. If you aren't aware, people can open the doors themselves on the metro by pressing a button or pulling a handle rather than it being automatic like in New York. What astonishes me is I have seen people open these doors before the metro has reached a full stop. Do I really have to lay out the consequences of this?
The word "Coño" is used way too freely here...I heard it about three times at my internship in less than one minute and at school.
According to my teacher, it is a universal word for the vulgar way of describing a female's private part. Hmm, the things we learn in class.
The disrespect.
Yesterday, I made two months here in Barcelona. I have 7 1/2 weeks left to go home. 4 weekends left in Barcelona.
