Something about the summer always gives me the urge to draw Party
This one’s for all you rock ‘n’ rollers, all you crash queens and motor babies
What would everyone do if I rewrote desert children 10 years or more later? I wrote a lot of it between ages of 13-17. I’m 27 now and have changed a lot in my writing. But I keep having dreams about it, so I feel like I need to try to write again.
I started writing the fic again and it’s coming more fluidly the more I do it. I have collected a lot of information in the last ten years that has helped me with my writing journey.
1) no one needs to write in order of events. A lot of things are written out of order by authors as they feel the inspiration and then are pieced together later.
2) you don’t need to over explain things to readers through dialogue. Don’t bother. Just show them through the actions and intentions of your characters. Readers are certainly not dumb and will figure out what is going on by themselves.
3) don’t be embarrassed about writing your characters getting it on. Your readers absolutely do want to know about the main love interests having sex. They want the slow burn. They want to feel the energy between the two characters. It makes people more connected to them.
4) going through an abusive relationship has taught me what is and isn’t normal. Because of this, I’m going to be writing the characters a lot differently. Are there still going to be some toxic elements to the relationship because of the characters’ unresolved trauma? Yes! But in a way where these elements are discussed and resolved overtime through the growth of the characters.
5) it’s likely this story will begin to stray from the actual story of danger days. Not like Gerard ever established a timeline that makes sense anyway. But while this borrows the setting and a lot of characters, it’s going to be 80% artistic freedom. The characters never had any relation to their “face claims”. I don’t want to write them as if they are the members of the band and never have. I see the killjoys in my story as a separate entity and they are not a representation of the people that make up mcr. It’s just a story based on dreams I have been having since I was a teen.
6) now that I know more as an adult, I’ll be writing the motel and general setting a little different than I used to. There were things I wrote that did not make sense simply because I didn’t know how buildings, hvac, etc worked as a teen. Having more information about the world around me is very helpful.
Where will it be posted? Idk. Not wattpad anymore, I guess. It seems to be almost unusable now due to what it was transformed into by the people that own it. I also don’t think it’s fair to myself to undervalue my work so much I posted it on wattpad. I have an ao3 and have considered posting it there when I am fully done with it.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk!
