Hi everyone! Ava here.

I’m so sorry for the lack of updates. I meant to announce this sooner, but a lot has happened for me that made it a struggle.

Here’s what’s going on:

My mind has centered around Desiderium for years. I hold the characters dear and true to my heart and the plot has been constantly revamped up until the point where I made the blog and finalized it with the team. I love it and I adore everything about it regardless of its imperfections. I was super excited to make it as a game, or to at least share the story with other people.

But for now, that has to come to a halt.

I’m so thankful for everyone for the support, and I’m sorry to say that Desiderium will be on an indefinite hiatus. As much as I’d like to personally work on it, I do not have the time to work on assets nor properly manage the team. I’m thankful that you all have liked the idea of my game, and the RPGM community for the push I needed to pursue it.

Lately, my mind has been boggled down with other things. My mental health is not in the best state, I won’t go into detail, but I needed to spend time for hospital visits and therapy. I do not have the free time I used to have as I wanted to focus more on school (I will be transferring to a university within the next year, so I need to keep my GPA up in college as well as pass all of my classes if I want to transfer and graduate on time). I also wanted to spend time with my friends and my significant other. And admittingly, I found drawing to be a struggle to work with as well and decided to focus on other hobbies.

I’m not on the computer as often as I used to be.

I’m sad I cannot continue on this project. But. I’m thankful for you all for giving me the opportunity to share this story of Suong and Hau, even if only a select few know of the entirety of it. The team got the heads-up about the project’s future several weeks ago, and I’m so grateful that they have been supportive the entire way through despite the several bumps along the way. While we didn’t get far in the assets, I’m grateful for the time they set aside for the project, and I enjoyed their company whenever we went into calls or had silly talks :) It made my days better.

I’d love to come back to it someday, which is why I don’t want to announce it as an axed project.

Once again, thank you all for the support. Please do not forget about Suong and Hau. I’m sorry that I must be selfish and ask for time for myself. Although I’m not super active on tumblr, please hit me up with a message or two (on my main blog or twitter) on occasion, I’d love to get to know some of you!

How's progress on the game?

Hi there anon! Thanks for checking in on us and remembering that we’re still around!!

The game’s been making a slow and steady progress, fear not!! All of the team members have priorities with schooling, jobs, and so on and so forth, so things do get pushed back unfortunately _(:3」∠)_ 

If I had to give some details in regards to what we’ve done after our previous entry, we’ve so far:

-Made multiple drafts for BGM throughout the game, along with the title screen and character themes.

-Begun working on tilesets for two other rooms in the first area of the game.

-Drafted bust sprites and more expressions for current and other characters that will make an appearance in the game.

We’ve still got long ways to go, but we’ll get there eventually!! Thank you again for messaging us and asking how it’s going! We hope you’re good and safe for the holiday season!! Keep it fresh ༼⌐■ل͜■༽

310817 First Entry

WOW, time flies! Already been two months+ since I started this blog!

Very sorry for everyone on the tardy update! But I hope what we bring out is enough to let you guys know that we’re still kicking and still very hard at work on the game!! School’s starting soon (and has already started for a few of us!), but the process of working on this game is fun and I hope you all don’t mind the irregular schedule for update logs!!

Without further ado, our first update log!! -gasp- and hurrah! The plot of the game has been redone over and over again as I thought about it throughout the years. With the help of the team to check over the plot and give the a-okay in regards to it, the plot has been finalized and we know what we want to deliver from beginning to end. Now we just have to worry about execution! While the overview of the plot has been done, we still need to get to the nitty gritty details of the dialogue interactions between characters and the flavor text. I’d definitely like to confirm with our followers that there will only be one ending, so no worries on having to pick certain choices or follow certain conditions!

The first three areas have their conceptual maps done, and we’re getting starting to finalizing and adding more detail to the maps before continuing to the rest of the game (which consists of five areas!). The first map of the first area has its chipset done and squared away!

(Note that the following shown does not reflect the final version of the game and may or may not change during the process)

Working on our own chipsets instead of using free ones is a bit too much for a first project, but we’re learning as we go along, and it has been rewarding to see the end result! As for overworld sprites, they’re actually ones I made a while back for a previous draft of the game, though just touched up a little bit!!

Also after some discussion in how dialogue is going to play out (as this game can get pretty dialogue heavy!), there will be bust sprites to express the characters as well as a bit of animation whenever changing emotions! Suong’s and Hau’s bust sprites are done with most expressions, and a few different poses! (Though we’ll probably add more as we go along).

(Note that this dialogue set is not part of the game and purely demonstration).

And with that, this log has concluded!

Wow, this post ended up becoming a lot more longer than I expected it to be!! Maybe that’s just me being really talkative (lol...). I hope it wasn’t too overwhelming ;; But I’m glad if you guys read through it and hopefully it makes up for our absence the past couple of weeks!!

For the next log, we hope to get the following shown:

Introducing one of the key characters in the game.

Dialogue demonstration between Suong and this new character.

One of the many music compositions that’ll be featured in the game.

(Possibly) another map!

While not all the things above may or may not be shown, they will act as our “goals” for the next log! Please look forward to more of our progress in the coming months. I am intrigued by the aquarium and inn as well (interesting settings!) I also love the designs of the two characters, especially Suong! Want to have a hand in game development?

Hi everyone! I’ve been a lurker in the RPG community for many years now and recently I’ve decided to put in my all to making my game a reality rather than an idea.

For those who have stumbled on this title for the first time: Desiderium is a mystery, non-combative game made in RPG Maker 2003 that follows Suong, a girl who could only recall her name, and Hau, a boy who also seems a bit lost in the strange inn they found themselves in.

Having this game planned out for years, I really want to get this game done and shared with the community, but there’s no way I can do it alone. So I’m seeking out volunteers that are willing to be as dedicated to the project as I am to make this game possible! Please note that this game is non-monetary, so I cannot compensate you for your time, but I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart if you do decide to lend a hand.

While artist is a bit broad, I’m looking for artists to help in pixel art and conceptual/promotional artwork! Pixel art is more of a priority as that is the style for all in-game talk sprites and CGs. As for artwork, I’m leaning towards any artists with a anime-esque style and/or that are familiar with environment and world building.

Music is what sets the mood of the game, and I would love to have Desiderium to have it’s own unique sounds! Looking for mainly calm, mysterious, and even creepy music! Most compositions will be used for ambiance and situational/character themes.

Programmers are the backbone of any game. I’m not too confidant having things go the way I imagine it to, let alone using RPG Maker. So anyone that knows their way around RPG Maker 2003 or any RPG Maker is welcomed! This is probably the role that will REALLY need to dedicate their time to this. We’ll both be working on the maps and events as well as making the aesthetic of this game work. I have open arms to beginners like me that want to take part as long as they’re willing!

How long do you estimate the playtime of the game to be? & Do you have a demo release date goal?

I estimate about 4-5 hours worth of gametime! I’m pretty bad at estimates to be honest, and I’ll admit that the plot is a bit lengthy ;;; It’s pretty ambitious for a first project, but the game is pretty linear and will have only one ending. I do have a demo in mind, but the release date is completely dependent on the future team and their schedules. Personally, I do hope to have a demo within a year of getting a team, but I feel like that’s taking more than I can chew, so I’ll keep at it one step at a time for now!! ^_^

The aquarium.

I’ve been chipping away at this for years, but I finally decided to put some more effort to finishing this project and to show that, I’ve finally made a blog to share it \o/ Making a game called Desiderium and it’s about Suong, a young woman who finds herself lost in an inn and can’t seem to recall anything but her name. Along with her companion, Hau, a young man who also finds himself a bit lost, they explore the inn and the mysteries behind it.

These are the two characters and their final design!
