Here is a complete list of Unitype characters, including upper, middle and lower-case. This is the plain typed version of course; handwritten Unitype is more curved and a little harder to read because lets face it, people are lazy.

Cat languages, videos, downloading careers... Where to Next for DYD?

Now that the assessed component of this blog is over, at least for now, you might wonder what will be happening from now on. But rest assured my habit of writing about my strange ideas and posting them here will continue unabated!

So here is a brief glimpse into the future, Steward-style:

Cat language - I've exhumed an old project about making a language for cats. So far it's tonal, has a limited vocabulary of one syllable words, and I'm working more on what kinds of words are in it rather than a direct translation from English.

Videos - We've looked at a lot of different types of audio features, but next semester will include flash animations!

Stewards - I still haven't really told you who/what they are, have I? And I might never, spoilers after all. But there will be more about them soon!

Abstract

The majority of eBooks and digital books today have the same look and structure of a physical book, the main difference being that large numbers of them can be stored on a single mobile device. However, making an eBook with the functionality of a physical book is comparable to making a website with the functionality of a wall poster: still functional, but a wasted opportunity to incorporate other kinds of media and digital interactivity. Through research and experimentation, it has been consistently found that while other forays into digital interactive storytelling exist, at the time of writing they have enjoyed limited success in the book industry. Design Your Destiny is a website dedicated to digital interactive storytelling and exploring different ways to seize this opportunity by adding mixed-media features to digital books. To date, this includes audio dialogue recordings, specialized soundtrack music, and interactive narrative structures. These features are showcased on the website as applied to an original speculative fiction story idea entitled ‘Falling Through Space’. They include elements of plot ideas development and secondary world creation, the most prominent of which is an invented phonemic alphabet called Unity. All this together represents an initial foray into the possibilities of digital interactivity in books, as part of an ongoing project.
