wbk but like the fact that cas walking away in 15x03 is a genuine attempt to move on from dean because it hurts too much to be like this, to be so desperately, so completely in love with someone who can’t even look him in the eye and try to understand why he did what he did, someone he sees as the most caring person, the most selfless, the most loving. to be undeserving of that love, of that care, how much must it have hurt? how much strength did it take cas to leave, to tell himself that this, all of this, it’s going nowhere.

the growth cas went through of untangling his self-image from how he thinks dean feels about him, it was absolutely pivotal to him finally allowing himself to accept himself enough to be happy.

Bestiel Moment 14x7

I feel like I keep having to rename this series of moments. First was to make it a little more punny, but now it’s because I’m recognizing that the Best Destiel "lines” are often unspoken, they’re more “moments” so here we go...

In this moment, Jack is telling Cas and Sam that he and Dean are off on a trip, they don’t say where they’re going or what they’re doing, just that they’re going out for a ride in Baby.

Now, keeping in mind my personal perspective that Cas is Jack’s dad and Dean is Jack’s step-dad (And Sam is the most supportive uncle ever!), this moment carries much more weight, imo.

If you look at the first frame, Cas is clearly looking right at Jack as Jack tells him about their plans to go out. Dadstiel clearly does not think this is the greatest idea, but instead of yelling at his son, he turns to his husband to get some answers. It’s just a shift in direction with his eyes, but he has very specifically shifted his glance to Dean in this moment. He is not asking Jack where they are going, he is asking Dean because he is trying to get across his disapproval without stating it out loud.

I watched this moment a half-dozen times and it made me so happy to see it happen. It could be subtle, because there is no cut from Jack to Dean here, it’s ONLY in the shift of Castiel’s eyes that we get the unspoken questions from one husband to another, one dad to another. And that is why this moment stood out to me as the best Destiel line of the episode.

Best Line 14x7

Jack is wise beyond his years. Week after week, with all of the things that Sam, Dean, and Cas teach him, he also teaches them lessons, Dean most of all. He is so kindhearted and means so well in everything he does.

His original plan was to leave on his own and go experience the big things (and little things) before he died. But when he realized that Dean wasn’t going to let him go on his own but instead wanted to join him so he wasn’t alone, he processed that and recognized that it’s the little moments with those we love that are most important.

And Dean knows this, but to have it directly stated and clearly articulated to him by this most innocent of beings really means a lot to him. And that’s why, as bonus frames, I’m including Dean’s reaction to the best line:

Again, not really Destiel, but did remind me of another possibility of love at first sight...

Even if it wasn’t for Dean, it was for me! I loved this angel from the moment he arrived!

Best Line 14x6

This was the greatest interaction. Because you know Dean had laid out for Jack how it should go down. That he would go in and play big bad FBI guy and Jack would be the soft hero. That there would be a bit of a back and forth and that Dean would eventually back down. But Dean didn’t account for how good Jack would be at playing that game. The “Old Man” line caught Dean (and Jensen???) off guard! It really sold the moment and proved that Jack has what it takes.

And the fact that Dean continues to dwell on this when he’s alone in the Impala? Amazing. Fantastic. So Dean. TBH, I wouldn’t be surprised if that line comes back in some form or another at another point during the season. Or at least I would love it if it did!

Bestiel 14x5

There really were no destiel lines at all in 14x5, and that’s okay. I may ship it, and I may want to see it everywhere, but when it’s not there, it’s not there.

That being said, I decided to share this one particular moment from the episode for this post. Dean asks Sasha to go make him a sandwich. He knows this is not appropriate, but he also doesn’t know what else to say. But what I loved was how he communicated silently to her afterward why he was making such a ridiculous request.

If I really want to stretch it, I could say that he would have done the same thing to Cas... but let’s be real, he would have done the same to anyone. I just think it’s funny that since he hasn’t been pursuing women as actively in more recent seasons, he only has his young Dean lines but with a more mature Dean mentality.

I love this. Sam is such a great leader. He always has been but he hasn’t always been given the opportunity to shine. He has always been okay with letting Dean take the lead. And although Dean is great, I don’t think he’s really a leader in the same sense that Sam is. Sam works well with a plan. He has a diplomatic way of approaching people and understanding other perspectives. He is not a shoot first, figure it out later kind of guy (not that we don’t need that once in awhile!) and for that he also makes a great teacher to these new recruits.

He’s hesitant because he’s not used to being in this role, but it suits him very well! I’m so glad Mary was the one to say this to him as well. Sure, Dean, Cas, or Jack could have said this, or AU!Bobby or AU!Charlie, but coming from Mary it means the most. Mary simultaneously knows Sam and doesn’t know Sam. So Sam can understand she’s not just saying these things to make him feel better the way Dean, Cas, or Jack might, but also understand that she sees more than any AU character could ever understand of Sam. Plus, you know, it is his mom.

Anyway, I’m loving Sam in a leadership role and I can’t wait to see more of it. This is what he deserves!
