One week after Mistral Jamboree, I am leaving Flight Rising.

It’s been great fun, but I have way too much going on to keep committing to this game. So it’s giveaway time! All dragons you see here are free to a good home, apparel and familiars included if requested, because what use do I have for dragon money now? CR me on-site at destopianfuture #62387, and shoot me a message if you’d like the dragon’s apparel and/or familiar. Please don’t take a dragon from the first three pages if you’re just going to exalt it. Fodder is on pages 4 and 5, and it’s still free!

I will also throw in a bonus: I have enough treasure saved up for 4 treasure genes (with the dom bonus). The first four people to send me an ask or an on-site PM requesting a gene for one of these dragons will get it!

Guide to the markings: Progens are X-ed out in red; mated pairs are linked with green (they don’t have to stay together, it just shows that they’re unrelated and make nice babies); notes such as ‘trip’ for triple are in blue. Aang, the Avatar fandragon, has a splash tertiary that would look a lot like the character’s tattoos if some adventurous soul gave him Circuit!

To quit or not to quit?

So, what do you think of the implications of the beastclan lore in flight rising? (godlike beings descending from nowhere, destroying and slaughtering entire nations, and now pretty much every non-dragon species is just barely clawing out an existence while occasionally being eaten or picked off by dragons) Compared to the rest of the site, do you think the beastclan lore adds too much darkness to a cheerful looking dragon breeding site?

I heartily disagree! Although it is a particularly dark chapter, I think it’s perfectly congruous with the rest of Flight Rising’s lore, which among other things features world-eating void monsters, nuclear arcane explosions that wipe out all intelligent life, giant undead amalgamated zombie dragons, and gods that have repeatedly tried to slaughter/outdo/pick on each other to the point that they themselves were nearly the cause of the first apocalypse of the planet.

When the lore was released I was actually super excited, because finally there was backstory for these humanoids who clearly wore clothes and used tools! I’d already had several Beastclan members of Driftwood Shore by then, and the update allowed me to flesh out their backgrounds and personalities so much more and now I love them to death.

Plus y’know, like all of the lore I think there’s a lot of wiggle room and interpretation is encouraged. I’ve seen clans who function as a bastion of peace and harmony between Beastfolk and dragons, or clans that are just allied with one faction, or others that are at total, all out war with all of them at once. It provides a possible background conflict for the players beyond “yeah so flights compete for dominance somehow”, and I personally it feel was a great move on the part of site management!

Jumping in with an interpretation: I always figure that the Beastclans bit isn’t supposed to be 100% objective… like, it’s their perspective?

For example, dragons are an unstoppable force? Right, well I’m taking Winewings and Gloaming to Harpy’s Roost and—oh. Sorry, guys. Or how about wild-type pearlcatchers? Their lore indicates that the majority of them are somewhere between cowards and pacifists. The beastclans aren’t exactly angels themselves—tengu are completely nuts, serthis regularly murder their parents and kids, and harpies are sexist assholes.

Obviously, the maren lore leaves much less wiggle-room, but I’m pretty confused as to why any non-Water dragon would have interest in destroying an estuarine city. You’d figure Light at least would think new cities to study was THE BEST THING EVER. Most dragons look they’d either ignore them, give them small gifts of metal or, at worst, passive-aggressively build something stupid on top of their cities.

I see the war and uprising as more likely caused by a series of (really, really tragic) misunderstandings. Imagine ridgebacks borrowing something that happens to be sacred to one of the tribes, and then being super confused when they get attacked for it, or a furious guardian whose charge is threatened (or destroyed!) by one of the beastclans, who is thus now about to charge them out of nowhere for something that they may not have any idea that they even did. God help them if the first dragon they ever encountered was a dying imperial.  :|

My overall impression of Dominance is that it’s a competition that allows the gods and their followers to work out their aggression on each other without actually hurting anything major kind of like Eurofootball, and also encourages their followers to send them Exalts to fight the Shade and do whatever else they might need. Which means that the Beastclans have essentially been accepted by the gods as the Flights’ equals, even if they’re not necessarily aware of this.

Does your clan mark its borders somehow? If not, is there some iconic landmark/some clear point at which you go from ‘returning’ to ‘home’?

The lair is currently airborne (a multilevel kite-platform-monstrosity held in place with a few tenuous tethers), so uh...when you're on a platform in the air, you're within the lair. In terms of territory, I'd say they mark it as an area a set distance out from the tethers. Probably about a mile, but I've never assigned a canonical distance measuring system to the clan. Let's assume it's marked with some very simple banners here and there, but nothing too official. The airspace between land and platforms is also clan territory, but they don't guard it too jealously.

So as many of you may have seen, I had to put my kitty Rosie down last weekend. It was really hard, because although she was nearly 22 and had definitely lived a full life, it’s the first time in 23 years I haven’t had a kitty to greet me every day.

But I don’t want to keep mourning. Rosie was the last of three very special cats I inherited when my mom, a very special woman, passed away - so there are four beings who I’d like to celebrate with this giveaway.

Who takes care of the hatchlings?

Are there more than one dragon who looks after them? What is the daily routine of taking care of hatchlings? How do experienced dragons look after them versus learning dragons? Are there training/s that they have to go through?

Short-ish version: teeny baby hatchlings are cared for by their parents (and/o Victoria, depending on how much free time their parents have); once they get older they are allowed to gravitate towards whatever older dragon they choose and do a sort of apprenticeship. We're a Wind clan though, so there's zero commitment involved in this process on either end - an adult dragon can have any number of protegés at once, and a young dragon can check out any number of professions before settling into a role. Or just choosing not to settle
