Fish or Cut Bait
She bagged the hand. Something opaque to spare whomever might be too tender about such things. And to lend whatever dignity she could to the victim. Maura stood up when Jane did, trying to see what the Detective was looking for and following her.
“Mandibular Arcade.” She helped Jane with the pronunciation. It then occurred to her that Jane didn’t know what she was talking about.
“Not fish, Jane, teeth, but that isn’t how the hand was dis articulated. That appears mechanical.” Speculation was unorthodox, but she found herself particularly incensed by whatever was going on here. Somewhere, the rest of this man lay waiting for her. Needing her.
Maura saw something and grabbed Jane’s forearm.
“Jane! I need that Australian Cattle Dog. We really need that dog please, without scaring it too much!” She pointed at the furry creature that was nosing about some 20 yards away.
Jane nodded as Maura talked. That horrible feeling in her stomach about another serial killer not going away when Maura said something Mechanical. She followed Maura’s finger and looked at the dog. “right.”
She glanced over at Korsak. “Hey, Detective do little. Maura needs the dog.” She pointed to the dog and watched her partner look. She smiled when he huffed about the name and walked off.
She followed a few steps behind careful not to cause the dog to run. She glanced at Maura. “I’m guessing he left the marks.” She said with a wink. Knowing Maura’s dislike of guessing.
Changes when Your Away || Jane and Maura Younger
Climbing out of bed, Maura moved to the other side and sat down beside Jane for a moment. “Is there anything in particular you want to eat?” she asked, reaching out to tuck a few strands of hair behind her friend’s ear.
Jane smiled at the gentle touch of her best friend and looked over at her shaking her head. It was kind of amazing how Maura simple presence was making this seem less suffocating. “I’m not really hungry. So, anything that isn’t vegan I guess.” She shrugged her shoulders but smiled at the joke.
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
“Good, because I don’t want to be talked out of it,” Maura laughed softly, gently squeezing Jane’s hand again. “Trust me, you can pull off both. It just…works.” She shrugged slightly as she spoke, returning the other girl’s shy smile. “Is there anywhere in particular you wanted to go to shop?”
Jane smiled and shook her head as Maura talked. “Nope Just wanted to really get away from Ma. Besides, she would have tried to go to the store and then would have carried it all back by herself.”
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
“You can be adorable and a badass,” Maura giggled quietly, biting her lip as she looked up at Jane for a moment. “If there’s anyone who can pull of both, it’s you.”
Jane felt herself blush at that comment and looked at her toes. “I doubt that, but if you think so I’m not going to talk you out of it.” She smiled shyly up at Maura and winked trying to get that cocky attitude back.

“I’m more than happy to,” Maura replied with a little smile, giving Jane’s hand a gentle squeeze as she spoke. Her cheeks flushed a pale shade of pink upon hearing the other girl’s question, one brow arching upwards for a moment. “Well, now I know,” she answered with a quiet laugh. “But you’re more adorable.”
Jane smiled and shook her head to the her being adorable part. She blushed a little herself. “Nah, I’m a badass maybe. Moody, Loud, but not adorable.” She chewed on the side of her lip as the walked towards the grocery shop.

Following Jane out the door, Maura couldn’t help but smile again. Jane seemed to have that effect on her. “But what if I want to provide the house and the dessert?” she asked, one brow arching upwards and a slight pout forming on her lips. “What if I like providing dessert?”
Jane smiled over at the adorable girl next to her. She walked down the stairs and towards the store. “Then you can. I was just letting you know. That you didn’t need to.” She tugged gently on their joined hands. “You're adorable you know that right?”
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
“Alright,” Maura answered with a smile. She kept her hold on Jane’s hand as she started back towards the kitchen. “There’s a bakery not far from here that’s quite good as well, if you like we could stop there and get something for dessert tonight?”
Jane nodded at that suggestion. That sounded nice. She knew her mother would like the gesture too. She had to add, though. “You don’t have to get the dessert, your kind of providing the house.” She winked at the other girl as she took the list on the counter waving to her Ma and heading out the door before she could say anything.
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
Maura grinned happily at Jane’s response, standing up and holding out one hand to help her friend up as well. “Are you ready to go then?” she asked, head tilting slightly to one side.
Jane took Maura’s offered hand and pulled herself up. She couldn’t help but smile at how cute Maura looked with that little head tilt. She nodded her head. “Yep, All we need is the grocery list from Ma.” She winked at the girl.
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
Maura smiled when Jane took her hand, allowing herself to be led back to her bedroom. After a moment of looking through her closet, she picked out a dress and pulled it on, running a brush through her hair a few times before pulling it up into a ponytail. “Do you… Do you maybe want to get coffee or something while we’re out?” she asked, sitting down on the edge of her bed to pull on a pair of heels.
Jane dug in her bag and got out a pair of well-worn jeans and a t-shirt. She was dressed and sitting on the bed when Maura came out. She smiled at her and nodded her head. “That could be fun.” She agreed.
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
Maura couldn’t help but laugh quietly, her eyes fixing on Jane again when she heard her question. “Of course!” she replied happily, a bright smile lighting up her face.
Jane smiled and stood up pushing her now empty plate to her mom. She nods to Maura. “Alright, Ma list?” Anglea scribbles down a list of things she needs as Jane grabs Maura’s hand and goes back towards the room so they can get dressed for the day. She didn’t notice the smirk on her mother’s face when she grabbed Maura’s hand.
Maura’s brow furrowed slightly in confusion, her head tilting to one side as she looked at the other woman. “Why are you sorry?” she asked quietly, giving Jane’s hand a light squeeze. “You don’t have anything to be sorry for.”
Jane nodded her head and let go of Maura’s hand. But only long enough to get the wheelchair in next to her. “I know this is a broken record. But, I should have handled everything better.” She said softly. “I should have at least checked in on you.”
Missing Partner || Maura and Jane
Maura giggled quietly at Jane’s response, letting out a contented sigh as the detective pulled her closer. “Well, I’m not going to argue against that,” she replied, pressing a gentle kiss to Jane’s lips. “Can we just stay here all day?”
Jane nodded as she kissed Maura back softly. “I like this idea.” She smirked and laid her forehead on Maura’s. The smell of bacon pulled her from the wanting to sleep, though. She heard her stomach grumble. “dammit.”
Stuck with a Turtle || Jane and Maura
“Probably not,” Maura replied, taking a sip from the glass of water in front of her before giving her friend a slightly mischievous smirk.
Jane smiled at Maura’s smirk and nodded her head. “You know that only makes me want to ask right?” She looked up when the waiter came back and ordered something simple.
Finding Her Way || Angie and Maura
“Well, maybe it won’t be rescuing so much,” Maura suggested as she pushed the elevator button and waited for the doors to open. “Maybe she’s having fun,” she added with a shrug, hoping Angela had been able to take the girl’s mind off of everything that had been happening just for a little.
Jane nodded her head. “Ma is good at the kid thing.” She said softly. “Though she is going to kill me.” She winked at Maura and walked into the elevator. “I kind of lied to her. About Angie.”
A place to Hide || Jane and Maura Younger
Maura giggled quietly at that, giving Jane an amused look. “I don’t think they’d appreciate that very much,” she pointed out. “But if it means you would be here too, then I can’t object,” she added with a shy smile, cheeks turning slightly pink.
Jane smiled a little. Maura was cute when she blushed. It was nice. The boys finished making all the noise and grabbed thier lunchs and bags running out of the house. Jane called after them. “Don’t get in trouble!” She laughed when Frankie yelled back. “Alright, Dad.”
She rolled her eyes and nodded to Maura. “So, wanna go shopping with me?”
Changes when Your Away || Jane and Maura Younger
Maura sighed softly, not particularly wanting to move, but gave a small nod in response. “Yes, you should,” she agreed quietly, kissing the top of Jane’s head before carefully untangling herself from the tight embrace. “Why don’t I make us something to eat while you do that?” she suggested.
Jane nodded her head and tried to not look as sad as she felt when no longer held. She slides to the side of the bed and used her elbows to get her sitting all the way up. She hated not being able to use her hands.
