    cass didn’t like having a partner. she considered herself a team player, but she really wasn’t. she preferred to work alone, because god knows the things other people would get her into. but that was only part of the reason she was so pissed off to be paired up with gavin. 

    cass hated gavin with every fiber of her being. he was annoying and rude and obnoxious. she didn’t have time to deal with people like him. she remembered when she first started working there, and everyone warned her that he was the resident asshole, and damn they were right. she hoped that maybe, after getting to know him, her opinion would change.

    fowler explained the situation as briefly as possible before waving them out of his office, insisting that they get to a crime scene. cass held the door for gavin (because she wasn’t that rude), and it slammed shut behind them. she crossed her arms and looked up at him.

    ‘ alright, reed. looks like it’s me and you, ’  she said with a huff. then she figured that she might as well try and be pleasant. she’d be stuck with him for a while anyways.  ‘ let’s get going. ’

    at his words, cass felt a wave of nausea wash over her. hank? no, not hank. that couldn’t be right. connor was malfunctioning, definitely malfunctioning. then she thought about it, and realized she hadn’t seen the lieutenant that day. or that week, even. her throat closed up and she covered her mouth. she felt like all the air had been sucked out of her lungs.

    hank couldn’t be gone. hank was the closest thing she had to a real father. her dad did nothing but belittle her under the guise of motivation. on the other hand, hank treated her like a real human being. he was an asshole sometimes, sure, but he was a hell of a lot better than her real dad. 

    she squeezed her eyes shut, feeling her knees buckle. without a word, she collapsed next to the couch and sobbed into her hands. no no no. this couldn’t be right.
