What? You never seen a broad as a detective before..?
Door's over there, if you need it.
(OOC, info and rules below!)
I've learned some things about Yellow.
He doesn't know why he's human when he used to be the King in Yellow. I was and.. really wasn't surprised to hear that. Him glaring at me like I offended him reminded gave me deja vu with John. At least I know why he's called Yellow. He mentioned a ritual that some woman named Vivian performed. He said it was the last thing he remembered before waking up at my door.
I learned plenty of things about Vivian too. Got a basic description and an overview of what she's like. If she's really as loyal as he claims, then a ritual to remove the King from power would be unusual. I'd like to interrogate her about why, but.. she's in the Dreamlands. The same place Charlie suffered.
I'm not afraid of physical punishment. I haven't been for years. I just don't know how to get there, and it'd be better if I stick with Yellow. Giving him food made him open up more than I expected it to but he's still jumpy.
Much as I'd like to let him sulk in my house, I have work in a few hours. He'll have to come with me whether he wants to or not. We're gonna need to get him proper clothes. And a better name than fucking Yellow.
...
We talked about it before I wrestled him out of the house. He said he could tolerate the name Marion, so.. Marion it is. At least while we're in public. Speaking of being in public, I've realized how often I'm around sane people. Some jackass in the middle of the store decided to be racist.
I never imagined I'd have to explain what racism is to a guy that used to be a god. Or why I punched the fucker in the face. It was.. complicated. Just like how getting Yellow to at least try human clothes was a nightmare. Sure, it won't be as great as whatever he used to wear, but he can't just run around without clothing.
We're back at the house now. About an hour until I have to get down to the station. The way I feel about this kid is.. scarily familiar to how I felt about Thelma. I've known him for less than a day. Fuck it. I guess he can be my kid too.
...I gotta stop getting attached so easy.
Admittedly, I don't know Arthur's schedule. It wasn't until last week that I even knew he was alive. We barely even had time to catch up before he and John were running off again. I don't think I've ever appreciated a phone book as much as I do now. The thing's thicker than a brick and heavy enough to be a weapon.
Yellow's still out cold on the couch. I don't need to consult the records to know he won't show up anywhere. Still can't believe his name is Yellow.. Yorick confirmed it for me.
The phone's been ringing for a while now. I get the feeling he isn't in his office—
"Lester P.I., who is this?"
I had something.. weird happen today.
Look, I've had a hell of a week. Busting cults, taking on Charlie's position- those're fine. I can do that. The vivid nightmares are another but I can still handle those. When Thelma showed up, I adjusted after a while and everything was fine.
But this? I'm a little less clear on what the fuck to do. He showed up on my doorstep bare ass naked aside from a cloak. I'd gauge him to at least be an adult. Long hair, dark skin, half his face is lighter than the other half, taller than me. If it weren't for his eyes I would've assumed he was homeless and trying to crash on my porch.
Normal people don't have yellow eyes. They also don't claim they're a King. Look, he was making a racket and it was late. I knocked him out. Had to. This isn't something I can explain to the neighbors.
He's on the couch. I'll have to call up Arthur and see if he can't tell me anything about this guy. Yorick hasn't had much insight for me, for once.
...Today's gonna be long.
Evening Mr.. Kayne.
I'm Detective Roosevelt with the New York Police Department and I'm here to discuss some charges with you.
*She takes out a paper. It looks.. extensive. She's already smoking.*
You're under arrest with the charges of.. fuckin' hell..
Premeditated Murder, First, Second and Third Degree Murder, Intent to Kill, Conspiracy to end the world, Theft of several precious artifacts, Breaking and Entering, Kidnapping, Disturbing the Peace, sending a man to Spain against his will and.. "hurting my feelings".
All of these charges were submitted by an individual who's chosen to remain anonymous. I've had a long day. Did you do all this shit or not?
@detective-roosevelt
(OMG TUMBLR NEVER SHOWED US THIS ASK SORRY)
We personally did every single one and will do it again, but this time inside a minecraft simulation. First we plotted to create a server, Azathoth's Dream, next, we schemed evilly while crafting tnt and fireworks, a baretrap here or there. What? Of course we're using mods. These are strategically planted upon the cubes waiting for a unsuspecting friend to get all snapped up. And indeed we did! The first one fell to the bees.
The second simply exploded.
And the third found the monkey.
We intentionally killed people with that monkey.
And we.almost succeeded! If it were not for those kids (Arty & Parkey) and their pesky dog. (John).
Ohh yess, we owned the full collection! An Diamond stone, Emerald Stone, and finally, the Gold stone. It's Hastur's heart.
We've broken and entered this universe... and minecraft.
We currently have kidnapped these men right here!
BOOM
We piss on piece.
He needed to go to Spain, it was the only way he could escape his pain, with
S.
We'd like to hurt them further, they have such pleasent screams!
(It's okay, don't worry!)
..I don't know what half of that means, but you're one sick fuck. I'd say you're under arrest if I was under the impression that you wouldn't kill everyone at the station.
*Her jaw seems to be clenched pretty hard.*
If I had the means, I'd beat your face in. How's the jaw? I heard Arthur got you good.
*A woman appeared quite suddenly at the Waylay. She had dark brown hair, scars covering the left half of her face, and only one eye. She was larger in stature, though she looked fairly well muscled. She automatically took out and lit a cigarette.*
...Well. Either the plan worked, or it didn't..
*I am... much shorter than her. She is another adult, one Casper and the Manager haven't told me of, and she definitely is another not-person. I step away a little in fear, but try to keep looking strong.* "A-Are you lost too?"
"Ah shit, what's a kid doing here..?"
*She muttered, hurriedly putting the cigarette out. She didn't have a fantastic track record with handling kids. Just go through the usual procedure and hope for the best..*
"I might be. Do you know where your parents are, kiddo?"
*The woman kneeled down to his height, letting some of her hair cover the scars. Her voice was rough, given that she smoked. She smiled, but only one half of her mouth moved. There was a reason she always had Noel talk to the kids..*
"Um... mamí's in mexico... and papa is in my universe! The Nice Manager is trying to get me home, because they say I don't come here until I'm all grown.
"Oh boy.. okay. Different universe, right. How about you tell me your name, bud? I'm Avera. I'm a Detective."
*She held out her hand for him to shake. Just be polite to the kid. Remember the tips that the others gave her. This would be fine.*
"I'm Jackson! I'm a Junior! Does the Not-Person in your eye have a name? *I shake her hand enthusiastically*
"Nice to meetcha, Jackson. The guy in there's named Yorick. He's a Vanguard and he helps."
*She hadn't thought Yorick was present. He hadn't said a word. Not that it mattered at the minute; this was still an unattended kid. Avera huffed out a laugh at the way he shook her hand.*
"Right.. I got an important question for you, bud. Do you know what this place is? It's fine if you don't, but I might need to know where this Manager is so I can ask."
Yeah! Mister Casper called it "The Waylay", it's for travellers like me!
"The Waylay, huh..? Do you know the way out of here? There was somewhere important I was trying to get to."
*Yorick had mentioned to her that the ritual was.. complicated. Maybe she had messed up a word and come to this Waylay? That would make some degree of sense.*
*...I'm lost too. The Manager doesn't know how to get me home to papa...* ...no...
"Well.. then I guess we have some options. If the Manager isn't busy, then maybe we can talk to him about this. There's a good chance he can tell us what the deal is. How's that sound?"
*She offered Jackson another half smile.*
*I can't stop fidgeting with my hands. I don't want to look her in the eye, or the thing in her other eye.* ...They don't know either.
"..Got it. So there's no way to leave, but it's a place for travelers. Weird.."
*Avera fought the urge to light another cigarette. It wouldn't be good to smoke in front of the kid. She stared at the ring she wore on her thumb. It had been a gift from something beyond her comprehension, yet it was still there. Odd.*
"I guess we'll just have to wait until they figure something out."
"I am sorry."
"You don't need to apologize. This is beyond our control. Sometimes.. things just happen that way."
*With a grunt, Avera stood and stretched. She found a nearby chair and pulled it over to sit.*
"What kind of things do you like doing?"
"I like animals!" *I pull out Mr.Harry the beetle from my pocket. He's not as active as when I showed the manager.* "This is my friend Mr.Harry!"
"That's pretty neat. Where'd you find him?" *Avera let out a quiet hum as she looked at Mr. Harry. It was impressive that the beetle was fine in Jackson's pocket.*
He was on the ground! I picked him up and papa said that he wasn't supposed to be there because he's evasive! *I'm not supposed to be in the Waylay... am I evasive?"
*Evasive..? Oh, the kid means invasive..*
"Some animals get into places they shouldn't be. Usually because of people. It's good you took him with you, bud."
*Invasive! That's what I am.* "Is the not-person in your head in-vasive?"
"Well.. Yorick isn't supposed to be there, but he's not doing any harm. That's what makes him different from invasive animals. The bad animals mess things up for all the animals that were already there."
"Does that make Mr.Yorick your friend then?"
"It sure does. He tells me about things, but I have to ask him first. With his help, sometimes I can see things that other people can't."
*The green dot of light in her left eye flashed brighter. It seemed like Yorick was proud of himself. Avera chuckled.*
"Can he tell you how to leave?"
"Hm.. lets find out. Yorick, how do I leave the Waylay?"
"I do not know."
"..Helpful. Would the ring do anything?"
"I do not know. Very few followers of Yog-Sothoth received it."
"So you don't know if it's dangerous or not."
"Unlikely."
"Right.. Yorick gets his knowledge and shh- stuff from other people."
*I giggle papa tries to do the same thing* "You were gonna say shit!"
"Maybe. You can't prove it, though. There's a lot of words that start with 'sh', it could've been any of those." *Avera let out a short chuckle, half grinning.*
*I'm six. I don't know how to read or write in English or Spanish.* "Like what words?"
"Like.. shape. Or shift. Y'know, you remind me of that runt I took in a few years ago."
*When all else fails, just change the subject. Besides, he.. sort of.. reminded her of Thelma.*
*Its still lost on me, unfortunately. But now she also looks sad* "...I'm sorry?"
"No need to apologize. She's fine. Thelma is.. technically my kid. I took her in because she broke into my house while I was out. She said she wanted to be a Detective like me."
"You're a detective? What can you detect?"
"Sometimes adults have problems, and they hire me to solve them. Other times, the police ask me to help them out with cases."
You and Thelma sound like my papa! He hunts the monsters that give adults problems! Then they give us food or a bed!
"That's a pretty good deal, especially if it's late. Your dad sounds neat guy, kiddo. Did you go with him whenever he was hunting the monsters..?"
Not for a long time, but when I turned five papa came home and we had to leave mamí... Papa says it's to keep me and her safe. Bow he shows me how to hunt the mean monsters and use my powers!
"Huh.. sometimes things like that are necessary. It doesn't make them easy.. what kind of powers do you have?"
*Most kids didn't have powers, last she checked. But then again, beings beyond her comprehension existed, and she was member of at least three different cults. Kids having powers was normal in comparison.*
I can see things! Papa says I'll get more as I grow up, but that they need to "develop". If I got them all at once he said I would be really hurt by them! But I can see Mr.Yorick in your head!
"That makes sense. It'd probably be like going into light after seeing nothing but pitch black if those came to you suddenly. I was wondering how you were seeing him through the eye patch."
*She took a lollipop out of her coat pocket and stuck it in her mouth. She offered one to Jackson.*
"It's pretty impressive that you can."
*A woman appeared quite suddenly at the Waylay. She had dark brown hair, scars covering the left half of her face, and only one eye. She was larger in stature, though she looked fairly well muscled. She automatically took out and lit a cigarette.*

I don't want to look her in the eye, or the thing in her other eye.* ...They don't know either.
