This is a writing blog for Hela, THE GODDESS OF DEATH ! This interpretation is primarily inspired by the 1960′s Thor comics as well as bits & pieces of other media ( Mythology included ).

Hela is an incarnation of Death given mortal shape, the comics have made a nasty habit of understating her power as a goddess in order to serve as a convenient punching bag for Asgardians. Make no mistake, she is vastly powerful, there are few who equal her power & FEWER STILL who outmatch it so please keep that in mind when interacting.

With its pearlescent sunlight, Vanaheim was truly a sight to behold, while the goddess generally preferred the deep, mossy forests of her own realm ( dense with cool mists & slumbering spirits ) there was certainly a majesty to be found in the bright, cascading waters that flowed around the pale-stoned towers of the city. Though she had come as queen, & not as death itself, the dark hues of her person cut starkly against the pastels & vivid hues of summer flora, prompting within herself a silent sense of displacement, like a shadow, a sentiment she began to mull over as a whistling breeze rustled her cape behind her ( quickly rectified as she grasped the fabric, tucking it behind her. ).

Beneath the sweep of wind & soft rustling of plush leaves, were the gentle pattering of hesitant feet against stone, steadily encroaching upon her presence & she could only surmise that it was either a fool who had begun to approach her, or someone sure in their ability to evade detection.

Her approach was like a whisper, a quiet presence gliding across the cracked & eroded stone of the city, she relished in the shadows cast by the abyssal canopy above & felt soothed by the night, always having found comfort in the dark. The throngs of denizens lined the streets, she observed all manner of artisans peddling their dubious wares & eager merchants spinning great tales to impose value & mysticism upon what were certainly mere objects of no importance & entirely ordinary.

This city was alive, yet undoubtedly she sensed that, beneath the swirling plumes of acrid incense, the familiar perfume of death lingered heavy in the air, seeking her ( as it always did ) & gently turning her gaze away from the myriad of colored silks & towards what she could only assume was the decorated form of a commander, swiftly cutting through the crowd & flanked by the perverse flesh of the undying. Hel’s body contorts to face the encroaching forces, enveloping herself in an aura of ancient & lethal magics, undaunted by the display.

𝐌𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐒 / 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑳𝑴 𝑶𝑭 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑫𝑬𝑨𝑫 !

Hel was the final child born from the coupling of Loki ( The God Of Lies ! ) & Angrboda ( Giantess & Bringer Of Grief ! ), her birth came at the cost of her mother’s life, for instead of an infant, Hel was brought into this world as a fully realized concept given corporeal form, inheriting from her parentage their traits & features to shape her immortal being. Upon her creation, Helheim too, materialized from underneath the shadow of Yggdrasil’s roots, an ethereal & eerie realm to house the spirits of the departed.

It is known that Hel is queen of the land who shares in her name, but less known is that the realm of the dead is intimately intertwined with the existence of the goddess of death herself, & vice versa. They coexist as parts of one another, so long as one remains standing, the other, even if killed or destroyed, will inevitably reform in time. Helheim is an extension of herself, not unlike hearts to mortals, & she is acutely attuned into all happenings within her realm at any given time & retains the power to alter & reshape her world at will ( from a shift in seasons, to terraforming & even the ability to halt time itself ! ). She is at her most powerful in Helheim, any quest to battle her in her realm is futile, for it is the only place where her power is absolute !
