The government is currently providing annual funds to draw recent college graduates and future entrepreneurs into the city, which is an extremely effective way of drawing in the people who are going to change the future of an entire city.
Detroit’s economy will be restored with the support from the government and big businesses, as well as the universities, unique ideas, and the low prices on properties.
There is a whole world of ideas and a whole city of opportunities for entrepreneurs and artists in Detroit.
And although the auto industry will not be what brings prosperity to the city of Detroit once more...
While the once great Detroit experienced a downfall like no other city has before, there is no doubt that eventually it will prosper once more.
The low prices of Detroit’s property offer seemingly unlimited opportunities, thus attracting many people to the city. It also allows for entrepreneurs to dedicate a higher portion of their budget to their projects and ideas, creating more businesses in the city and helping the economy immensely!
All of these factors have one thing in common.
The income of a fresh-out-of-college entrepreneur or artist is extremely low. Detroit offers exceedingly low prices on properties otherwise unaffordable for these essential members of the community.
Urban farming is one of the many entrepreneurial and inventive ideas that focuses less on business and more on making huge changes in the city.
Above is a link to the projects that the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative are working on. Using urban farming, they hope to provide jobs for Detroit and the surrounding community and fill the thousands of empty lots, (which are both obviously vital to recreating Detroit and its economy), as well as providing healthier food in the urban area that they are located in.
However, there are more types of entrepreneurs than just business owners and artists. There are some entrepreneurs who are trying to make a difference in Detroit in general, and are turning their clever ideas into positive and innovative methods of rebuilding the city, such as urban farming.
These are the same reasons that the entrepreneurs and college graduates are the breath of fresh air that the city needed.
While many people depended on jobs in the car factories, Detroit truly needed to be rebuilt from the bottom up, with more consumers, citizens, and overall, businesses and programs.
There were many reasons that Detroit continued to decline after the auto industry was bailed out in 2008:
Much of the auto industry has moved outside of Michigan, and therefore Detroit is not the epicenter of the whole trade.
Primarily, the employees of the car companies did not even reside in Detroit due to the lack of businesses, and therefore, Detroit still struggled to bring in consumers.
The city needed to reconstruct its economy and what it used to draw in money.
Here, CCS provides a list of some of the many programs that their own graduates have initiated in Detroit, along with a list of numerous galleries located in the city, proving that art is a major part of Detroit’s new culture as well as a factor in growth of the economy.
The College for Creative Studies
is also a large player in jump starting the economy. The art community in Detroit is growing faster than it ever has before, and graduates from the College for Creative Studies are using their artistic skills and talents to begin their own businesses.
DETROIT IS A GIANT CANDY STORE FOR YOUNG COLLEGE GRADUATES WANTING TO BE THEIR OWN BOSSES.

However, these programs would be impossible without the surrounding universities, making these schools and their graduates vital aspects in revitalizing Detroit.
Wayne State University, Michigan State University, The University of Michigan, Lawrence Technological University, and many more.
These big businesses and entrepreneurs coming up with programs such as those previously stated will be a large factor in saving the city’s economy.
