marigoldsandpoetry:
Look, if there’s one thing that Izuru takes complete and utter joy in, it’s his ability to respond to any situation with as much insolence as possible. Shuuhei always has such an excellent response, too.
“Of course,” he says, though he does make a point of balancing more fully on Shuuhei’s thigh to give him a clear line of sight to the paperwork. This does, of course, require an arm around Shuuhei’s shoulder, which may or may not provide a bit of distraction. But now at least Shuuhei can finish up.
“Better hurry.”
Funny, how Izuru pulls off these sassy moved while still having all the social grace of a baby duckling. He’s a special one, alright.
“Oh yeah? What happened to carrying me home?” Somewhere in the world, there’s an incredibly specific sexual fantasy that involves being a high-ranking shinigami at one’s desk with a beautiful blond in their lap. This fantasy may or may not be Shuuhei’s.
Izuru also happens to smell very nice. Like clean laundry. Sexy. Shuuhei may or may not lean his head against Izuru’s shoulder.
marigoldsandpoetry:
Sniffing, confirmed. Hey, it was a long nine hours, alright?
“Oh, have you?” That seems unlikely; there’s always something to do around here. That’s one of the risks of being a lieutenant — without enough self-control and motivation, you might never go home. “I might just take you up on that, then.”
…well, Shuuhei should probably have specified where Izuru sit and keep him company. But since that didn’t happen, he’s going to just have to deal with Izuru plopping himself down right on Shuuhei’s thigh.
“There’s a seat over-”
But of course. Shuuhei immediately becomes aware of the flaw in his plans. The advantage is squarely in Izuru’s court, and Shuuhei still can’t see his paperwork with Izuru seated on top of him.
Shuuhei hadn’t really realized how tired he was until there’s an extremely tactile Izuru infront of him.
“... Comfortable, are we?”
tenkiisms:
She knew better to just be late. Punctuality was something she was most assuredly knew was a good first impression. Being showed to be a sheltered child as the people in the Serieritai thought of her as one, this behavior would be natural for a girl whom was the granddaughter of a Central 46 member and yet, she was still learning so many things. She was stil fiery as her old self was. However, some bloodthirsty and hatred for the Soul Society had came to flow over her. She had those chains lifted because of two people in her life, her grandfather and her baby sister.
She didn’t think study groups were her thing, but her grandfather suggested it and she thought it might give her a try so she decided to stick to it. Besides, she was still trying to adjust to a normal life, a life where she had left her last name in the pool of blood.
“Yes, I am.” Followed a nod and a clear of her throat, noticing her voice sounded a little raspy, “While I am in the Literature Club, studying to sharpen my skills would also be a great idea. Literature is more of a hobby, this is stuff I’ll need when I become a Shinigami.” The World of the Living. It had always interested her. What lies in the other world. It had almost felt like a book to her.
“Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Hozuki Avira. A pleasure to meet you.” She bowed in respect, trying to see if she was actually following these respect morals that she had heard she must do. This was the same girl, during orientation who nearly accidentally sassed a Lieutenant and nearly landed herself in trouble for not saying proper respectful terms to a sensei in her first day.
That attitude seemed to be common for students, especially ones’ who’s pasts fell outside of the Seireitei. They have thirsts to prove themselves. When Shuuhei had been just a first year student, rough around the edges and still getting used to how loud and big and strange the academy was, he never thought he’d be able to keep up with the sheer speed of this place.
Now, he’s a fifth year, straight A student, and his ego has only exponentially inflated with his status and experience. Shuuhei will gratefully take any errant student who will take his little study group ‘homework club’ seriously, which tragically the majority of students refuse to do. Truly, hard work is not properly appreciated.
He’s actually a little surprised when the student confirms that she is, actually, here for the study group, but he quickly straightens up and recovers. “Perfect. You’ve come to just the place.”
Moving aside for Avira to enter, Shuuhei nodded in greeting. “Name’s Hisagi Shuuhei. The big one over there is Aoga. The little one at the chalk board is Kanisawa.” He jabs a thumb at his peers. Shuuhei’s tone is serious, but his casual way of speaking makes him seem only too impatient.
“We do a lot of the tutoring and supplementary instructions around here. You having trouble with any classes in particular?”
marigoldsandpoetry:
Is Shuuhei wearing cologne? Oh, no, that’s just the general musk that he acquires after a certain tenure of nonstop work. Izuru doesn’t mind that much. It’s kind of endearing, actually.
“You’re starving us to death, and we missed you.” Oh, they could’ve gone and gotten takeout yet again, but they’ve been advised against that. “So, are you coming, or am I going to have to carry you home?”
Is Izuru sniffing him?
“I have no doubt. But I’ve almost finished up here.” Shuuhei explains, even though that’s not strictly true. He could easily put off the last of this document for tomorrow. Besides, it’s currently under Izuru’s ass. “You’re more than welcome to sit patiently and keep me company, though.” A teasing tone? From serious Shuuhei? Never. Unheard of.
someone: so what are you guys gonna do after your honeymoon?
369, probably: renew our vows
marigoldsandpoetry:
Quit talking about him like he’s dead, Shuuhei. That’s insensitive, Shuuhei. He’s been alive again for like nine years and two months, Shuuhei.
Also, you saw him nine hours ago.
Izuru sets himself on top of Shuuhei’s paperwork in an otherwise-deserted printing office. “Time to go,” he urges.
There is his handsome boy! Nine hours. Izuru, you fool. That’s like an eternity. That was practically an entire lunchtime ago.
“Why so impatient?” When is Izuru not impatient, is the better question. Of course, Shuuhei is the only functional chef in the house, so unless Renji is REALLY about to surprise them, their schedule orbits around him.
Where is his husband?
It’s been fifty years since Shuuhei last saw his loving mate. So bright, so young, so full of life. a golden halo enveloping his sweet, sweet head.
Sometimes Shuuhei can almost hear his voice...
@bachiiatari
“Lieutenant Ise, I was hoping to run into you.” Shuuhei says, and then congratulates himself on being very casual about it. As if he hadn’t waiting in the printing office, calculating the most likely time Ise would have to come in and drop off her submission to the Seireitei Communication this month.
“Hinamori had told me that you liked to read a lot.” It’s not exactly like he had to be told, actually, what with her often toting those massive books around, but bare with him- he’s going somewhere with this. “You must know a lot about what makes a good book then, right? Like, maybe you’ve read enough that you could critique someone else’s writing...”
That would explain the girthy set of papers on Shuuhei’s hip, bound together with twisty ties and sporting yellow sticky notes saying ‘W.I.P. Don’t touch.’ and ‘That means you, Kuna”

13. Did they like school? Teachers? Schoolmates?
For the most part, Shuuhei loved school! Growing up in a pretty destitute district with no formal education to speak of, traveling to Seireitei and attending Shin’o Academy was Shuuhei’s dream. It was the first time he made friends, was rewarded for his intellect- he even became something of a minor celebrity among his peers, being essentially guaranteed a prosperous career in the Gotei.
Of course, this was before things took a turn for the worse in the middle of Shuuhei’s senior year of school. Turns out watching your two best friends get killed in front of you is bit of a joykiller.
32. How does your character react to stress situations? Defensively? Aggressively? Evasively?
Shuuhei can definitely get defensive when stressed. He very much likes things to be a certain way, and within his control. And when things fall out of Shuuhei’s control, he can get very stubborn about it, shutting down and blocking all outside factors until he can figure out a solution.
It’s not often that Shuuhei really loses his cool. Maturity and rational are his forte, but he has a rebellious, impulsive streak to him that risks lashing out if pushed to the brink.
39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?
You know that old saying about how people always look down on qualities that secretly remind them of themselves?
Shuuhei can be very dismissive of people who he perceives as being over-emotional or hysterical, becoming impatient with those who he thinks of as being too ‘weak-willed’ to stay logical.
Does that mean he really is cold and aloof? Is it actually more because Shuuhei becomes overwhelmed by other people’s feelings quickly? Or is Shuuhei projecting because under that serious demeanor, he has a pretty soft heart himself? MMMMMMMMWHO’S TO SAY???
48. How are your character’s gestures? Vigorous? Weak? Controlled? Compulsive? Energetic? Sluggish?
Shuuhei usually has very controlled, close-off mannerisms. He usually stands with his arms folded over his chest, and moves with a lot of thoughtfulness in his actions. He’s usually the kind of person who has to think before he does anything, and sometimes his lack of movement or gestures can be unnerving to people.

Stars | Dead Hearts
“You’re a little early. That’s good.”
The teenager’s voice is a booming spitfire, all business and wells of youthful confidence as the door slides open with a wooden ‘thwack’ to greet the newcomer.
At the awkward meeting point between adolescent and adult, Shuuhei’s lanky frame looms as he leans against the doorway, dark hair that’s getting too long falls well past his ears. In the mostly empty classroom behind him. Kanisawa and Aoga are already arranging desks in a militant fashion.
“We’re beginning with a review of today’s lecture, then some kidou practice. If we have time, there’s a chance to get ahead on the reading for World of the Living Studies.”
“... You are here for study group, right? Literature club is on Thursdays.”
No one expected it to be quiet right after a war.
Sure, there was a not of celebrating. With Aizen, defeated, a cloud of fear had been lifted over Soul Society and everyone could breathe a little easier.
Others, however, had to wait a little longer for their chance to celebrate. Shuuhei already knew that Hinamori, Matsumoto and plenty of his other comrades who were on the battle field would see the inside of the Fourth Division more than the lights of the festivities outside.
In a perfect world, Shuuhei himself would be back in his examination room, patiently waiting for Lieutenant Kotetsu to analyze him and declare him fit to be discharged. Maybe she could also give him something from the discomfort in his abdomen, where the wounds that Tousen had cut into him like water had been shrunk to thin, red scars. But who knows how long that process could take?
Using his stealthiest sneak to slip through the Fourth Division halls, work is already piling up in both of his offices. C’mon, feet, we’re wasting moonlight here!
It pretty much goes without saying that there’s a lot of pressure on shinigami. TAs creatures, it’s their primary function to deal in the passing of life, orbiting around death like flies around a carcass. For this reason, it’s a rare gift to be able to experience the gift of a new life.
This is true, even when it involves a large dog giving life to nine individual puppies. However, Shuuhei could have been happy experiencing these gifts of life a little less up close and personal at the time.
So began the arduous process of finding homes for these loving little accidents.
“Here she is.” For his top candidate for the Eight Division, Shuuhei picked out the most even-tempered of the litter, a mild-mannered little girl puppy covered in fuzz the color of dark chocolate. He knows Fujiwara isn’t especially calm around most animals. This should be a suitable match.
Even though she’s only a baby, the puppy is easily big enough that Shuuhei needs a full arm to carry her. Her giant head lolls around curiously sniffing the air, all big, blank, dopey eyes. This creature knows virtually nothing. She’s only been alive for less than a month.
“Do you wanna come say hi, Fujiwara?” Shuuhei invites the other lieutenant, putting the pup on the ground for her to waddle around on her fat, baby legs. “She’s fine- I promise.”
