When the Octonauts heard about some bird that was stranded and hurt, at first they didn’t really want Peso to go. Everyone was very stressed out and they needed everyone, especially their medic to help them search for their most likely wounded Captain.

But Peso argued that its his job to help any creature who is hurt or sick, no matter what. And that the Captain would’ve wanted him to go, so they let him.

Peso followed the Octopus in the Gup-E to the hermit crab, then to the snake, then to the puffer and then to the grey fish. He was so worried about the Captain, but he also wanted to help this poor bird get back to its flock.

He wasn’t exactly sure what he was expecting to see when he rounded that corner. A seagull with a broken wing maybe?

When he saw their missing Captain drenched in blood and collapsed on the ground, he just.. didn’t even know how to react.

When the Captain first got on the island he was relatively calm. Upset and confused sure, but he was just sitting there, not moving at all or really doing anything. Although it didn’t stay like that for long.

Captain Barnacles is a Polar Bear, and their noses are very powerful. A Polar Bears sense of smell is 7 times better than a blood hound’s or 2,100 times better than a humans, allowing them to smell prey up to 20 miles away. Polar Bears depend on their nose to help them get around, its their sense of direction. As you can imagine, their noses are extremely sensitive and have hundreds of muscles and nerves in them. So, crashing a gup and smashing your face as a Polar Bear must be a very painful experience right? Well.. not at first.

The Captain has a naturally very high pain tolerance, and was experiencing an adrenaline rush when the crash occurred. When he made it to the island and spoke to the crab, the adrenaline was only then beginning to wear off. After the message was sent out it wore off completely, and it wasn’t long before his pain tolerance just wasn’t enough to keep him calm. He was confused by his concussion, and a wave of unbearable pain was beginning to wash over him. He was completely disoriented and didn’t know what to do but cry and thrash about.

The crabs all hovered around him in worry, too afraid to approach him, but didn’t have the heart to leave him. They just hoped his family or.. crew? Who ever they were, where ever they were, would make it back in time to save him.

Now you may be wondering, what the heck is going on here?? Well, to sum it up..

While out on a solo mission in the Gup-A, an accident occurred which caused the gup to crash. The Captain was unable to abandon the ship in time and as a result he got a nasty concussion and a bloody nose.

A long story later he winds up stranded on a island that is crawling with crabs. The crabs see this giant strange creature covered in blood and freak out, leaving the Captain alone to wonder around helplessly.

After about 20 minutes of the crabs hiding and the Captain sitting in the shade doing literally nothing, this one little crab decides that he’s going to confront this stranger and figure out what he’s doing on their island. Only to discover that Captain Barnacles, of course, is completely harmless and quite out of it at the moment. After some talking, the crab decides that he’s going to help out this weird critter and get him back to his family somehow.

The story continues from there but I figured an explanation from the beginning up to this point is all that was necessary. :}

When Kwazii heard that the Captain had been found on an island nearby, a wave of relief washed over him. But when he heard that the Captain was wounded, his heart quickly sank with worry. He stumbled over his words in alerting the other crew members of the situation, then he sped off to the aforementioned island as fast as he could, pushing the Gup-B to its absolute limits in the process. When he reached the island he was in such a hurry that he beached the Gup-B, completely disregarding any consequences in doing so. He ran aimlessly onto the island and called out for Peso, only finding direction when he heard him call back.

When he saw the Captain in the state he was in, he was frozen for whole 5 seconds before he began to move once again. All it took was one look at him and he knew what he needed to do. Peso kept telling Kwazii to leave the Captain alone, to keep his distance, to back away. But Kwazii knew better, he knows the Captain better. Captain Barnacles does not need space right now, he needs to know that he’s not alone. He needs him to understand that they’re here to help him, not to hurt him.

So disregard Peso’s warnings he did. And despite the very real danger this action posed, he approached the Captain. Knowing that a source of comfort is what he really needed. Peso watched in amazement as Kwazii somehow was able to soothe the Captain. “Remember what we practiced?“ He said? He spoke as if he had done this many times before, like calming down their mighty and fearless Captain was an every day occurrence. Something he could do on a whim. Peso just couldn’t understand it.

But then came the second thing the Captain needed.. the numbing solution. Now, holding his trembling hand was one thing, attempting to clean up the site of the injury was another. Kwazii just hoped that the Captain remembers what they practiced, and stays calm long enough for him to finish the job.

If he doesn’t? Well… someone else is going to need that numbing solution too.

For the past couple of days I’ve really been struggling to get Moon Malfunction done. I’ve been trying to force myself to work on it and just get it finished but I wasn’t really making any progress.. I wanted to draw so many other things and I just couldn’t really concentrate..

That’s when I became sentient once again and realized that I’m not getting paid for this. I can work on/draw what ever I want, when ever I want. Soooo I took an insane U-turn into Octonauts and drew the Octo-dads again. Bet you didn’t think you’d see THEM again so soon huh? XDD

After my low effort post of the Octodads, I felt inspired to actually take my time and make a solid post for them. So here you go! A few snip-bits of what life is like in the everglades with three sad old men! :D
