I do not know what my exact disposition is, but I clearly operate in a way that reads as ‘single mother raised polite young man.’ This has lead to quite literally every older adult male I meet that I would consider beyond an acquaintance level interaction as though I’m their long lost son whom they want to catch up with. The only exceptions being men who knew my stepfather before he passed.

There’s nothing wrong with any of this, especially as I get things like invitations to waterparks, summer camp accompaniments, or free advice on long term investing. I just feel bad for the freaks out there who’d be getting a lot more out of these replacement father figures than I

Two-sides of a story is genuinely so interesting in storytelling and unbelievably awful in practice. My friend is mad at me that I don’t have prompt responses to their texts if I open them and leave them on read because it makes them feel unloved/very self-depreciating (fair enough and a symptom of a larger issue that I understand.).

And then I show literally anyone the ‘gaps’ (we have a 3 hour time difference) they’re upset about or the instances where I ‘don’t respond’ and it flips:

Message at 9pm on a Saturday, mad I didn’t respond by 2am (I was preparing to go out/literally about to walk out the door).

Message at 4am on weekend, mad I don’t respond by 10am (I haven’t woken up).

Message at 10am on weekday, mad I don’t respond by 3pm (I am working but they woke up for the day at that time).

And it is very very frequent. Like enough that this is still clearly a person I talk to regularly more than anyone else that’s not in-person. Then their request adjustment is to include, in every text that could possibly be read as a negative slant inclined towards their actions/existence, a positive reassurance that I don’t hate them, and elaborating on the phrasing I’m using.
