Where does inspiration come from?

“The Coyote’s ragged tail was inspired by Japanese paintings of ocean waves, and Maurice Noble’s background designs for the Road Runner cartoons were also influenced by Japanese thinking. Japanese artists use perspective in a different way from ours;  for example, if a boat is about to crash on the rocks, and there are people watching from the safety of shore in the foreground, they will be drawn smaller than the sailors in peril.” –Chuck Jones, page 199, Chuck Reducks
