06 - Final Character

After a series of research and character study, we finally decided the final characters that will live in our animated movie. We proudly presents our characters:

Budi

Budi, a 9 year old child who lives in the countryside with a simple appearance. Budi loves to play on the hill behind his house accompanied by his best childhood friend Temi (the turtle)

Temi

Temi is the childhood friend of Budi, a turtle with purple skin and a golden shell. Temi is always kept inside a tin whenever he goes and play with Budi. Temi is a magical turtle. With his magic, Temi has often helped Budi when experiencing difficulties. However, Temi never show that he has power, and Budi never knows that Temi has extraordinary abilities.

The Heart Tree

And of course, a very shady large tree. For Budi and Temi, this large red-hearted-shaped leaves tree is their true friend. Budi and Temi always interacts with this large tree. Miraculously, this tree can feel what they (Budi and Temi) feels. When they are happy the tree looked happy, and when they are sad the tree looked sad.

05 - Character Study

We wanted to follow the success of foreign animation that not only makes the movie content itself but also prepare physical figures made from a variety of forms with unique and attractive packaging. Our creative team try to create some characters in the form of action figures, paper toys, logo and other assets in the movie such as the bag to be appointed as one of the icon of interest later on.

04 - Character Development

We strive to pack this animated movie as best as we could. With the presence of new characters that can represent all generations from small children to adults and the elderly. During the day-to-day training at the Japanese Animation studio, we tried to develop the characters that will appear in our movie premiere.

Searching for the appropriate figure, processing various attractive colours and trying to find out the response of small children, friends and families when we showed the characters that we created. And finally…they also felt happy with these characters.

03 - Characters Creation

In accordance to the joint plan, this movie will be packed into a semi-fiction animated film. Therefore, we are more freely to expand and can expand freely. One day after the five of us discuss this plan, we began character research.

02 - How the Story Begins

For eleven years, the story of this tree is kept and communicated only through the word of mouth. In December 2015, four of our animators (MASAGISTUDIO) had the opportunity to gain valuable experience to deepen the world of animation directly through THORIS Animation Japan.

One night in the kitchen of the school, we all gathered, discussing about some work we need to do for a company profile. Suddenly, I remember a story, yes…a story that has been kept for eleven years, about the friendship of a child and a tree.

Thanks to the feedback that we receive from friends and colleagues, this simple story was later developed into an exciting story and we are also challenged to make this story come alive through animated movie. Discussion and planning lasted until early morning. There was an old table which we use as a drawing board to pour in our ideas and plan the making of this movie.

01 - The Legendary Tree

Every day I see school children playing under a huge Sakura tree. A tree which is said to have lived more than a hundred and fifty years. This tree is the eternal witness of our school. Over the years, he sees so many things changes and turns. This tree may be able to tell you a story about a long journey. Every now and then I like to tell a story during classroom time. A spontaneous story inspired from a tree in the garden, a story about the friendship of a child and a tree. A story that will never ends. – Dhany (director)
