froot; a mini-rant

this is a kinda long post so beforehand im rly sorry.

it still bothers me to this day, 1.5 years later, to remember that when the froot era was alive and well, that people would comment on her instagram “flop” or “release an album like electra heart”

everyone’s entitled to their own opinion….but to discredit someone’s hard work like that in such an impolite way is fucked up…??? plz dont get me wrong, electra heart is my fave marina album but she was severely depressed and not in a good place mentally at all,,,,,,

yes, the electra heart era was beautiful, & yes, her fanbase grew a lot

but also marina:

although glad she co-wrote, felt incredibly frustrated by collaborating with producers

was severely depressed (as we all know)

was not taken seriously as an artist due to her image change

was not thought to write her own lyrics

and……..

her record label went bankrupt (i still dunno what rly happened here)

her current record label tried to get her to go the route of being a pop star, and she essentially had to “fight” for froot to be released

was called a “sell out” for experimenting with a new sound

critics mocked like every fucking song bc they didnt understand that one of the album’s themes was that it was supposed to be a motherfucking satire on the way women are perceived in the media

overall, marina was seriously misunderstood as an artist and was left sorely frustrated and exhausted.

so, like i said before, ofc you’re allowed to prefer electra heart over froot or tfj too….but like why would u wish depression and suicidal thoughts on someone simply so u can have some “new bops”??? lmao

“I think this new album is much more reflective. It’s also centred around extremely different things; half of the album is about a relationship that I had to end. It’s not something I feel good about, and it’s not something I’d really addressed before in my songwriting.
