This bicolor cat you can see above and on my pfp is my main OC, name’s Yara. She is… well, a lot like me. Quite active, humorous and goofy.

I got hit with the Project Hail Mary hype ray two weeks ago but had ZERO free time to do anything about it. Now that I got a couple of chill days between hardcore thesis film crunch, I allowed myself to try and do some fanart. So, here goes my first attempt at drawing a universally beloved living rock, a.k.a. Rocky the Eridian! I love this little guy so muuuchhhh aaaa

It’s hard to search for references of any side other than the “satellite dish” one and it’s really frustrating, so I had to improvise a bit.

The way you draw Jigen drives me up the wall whaaaat are these SHAPES, this SILHOUETTE, I love this so much!!! I can’t stress enough how much I like when artists double down on his pointy downwards nose, it just complements his design so damn well! God. This post alone made me want to draw him again. He’s so cool…

I mean, Zenigata is my fav in general (love him here too btw), but Jigen’s character design is just pure peak.

Species names and explanations under the cut!

Lupin is a great tit, because great tits are actually the most deranged and feral of small birds, although few people except for bird-lovers know about this "skeleton in the closet" of theirs. But these cuties can murder other small birds and eat their brains… In captivity, a tit is a universal destroyer of everything it can reach, and there were cases when these little demons unscrewed screws and dropped shelves. So their beak is not only a murder weapon, but also a universal tool of chaos.

Yata is a jackdaw because, as I mentioned earlier, the word "crow" is woven into his full name. I was also told on here that Yatagarasu is the name of a Japanese deity in the form of a large crow with three legs, which only reinforced my already existing association of this character with a corvid bird. But he’s quite thin and light so he didn't look like a raven or a crow in my head, I needed something more elegant and nimble. The choice fell on a jackdaw as a smaller and more graceful member of the corvids, but no less quick-witted.

Zenigata is a grey-faced buzzard because I initially associated him with some diurnal bird of prey. Not with an owl because owls are quite sedentary and prefer to hunt from an "ambush" in short strikes from a perch, while he is all for prolonged persistent pursuit; and not with a falcon because falcons are too small and fit, and we have a really bulky man here. At the same time an eagle would hardly care about a small titmouse. So I landed in the middle, on a not too small but not too large buzzard. Plus, this particular species is common in Japan.

The sizes lineup is not entirely realistic, but this was done on purpose to make it more convenient to draw their interactions with each other. I'll also do the rest of the gang as birds, but a little later ;)

I hope they really do look like themselves while keeping their species somewhat identifiable because this was the main challenge here! I had to invert the colors on Lupin’s belly from those of real titmice for the sake of imitating a green jacket design more closely.

In fact, I'm incredibly amused by how compact Lupin can be. So, I think if he was really tired, he could easily fall asleep in almost any crevice, just by rolling into it.

And on those days, his gang goes around the house, literally looking for him behind the couch, behind the closet, under the table, and so on. Whoever finds him first gets a dollar from the losers.

Honestly, I never thought I'd live to see the day when I'd have Lupin headcanons.😶

I recently found out that I'm also a Yata enjoyer, because apparently I can't just watch the series and not get my attention drawn to a third-plan character in whom I can see a good (and not particularly unfolded, as usual) potential. Zenigata is an amazing character on his own of course, but the sudden twink partner that was attached to him in Part 5 is also nice! Cool guy, gives more volume to the inspector's character through his interactions with him. An altruistic and devoted companion.

He has strong jackdaw vibes, and it was fun to find out from the wiki that the word "crow" is woven into his full name, Yatagarasu. Dude is literally bird-coded!
