hey bof fandom you know i love you so much but can we learn how to mark our fanfiction as incomplete if it’s not done yet 😭 genuinely half of the completed fics in the fandom aren’t actually completed they’re wips and it drives me nuts i can’t even lie 😭😭 this isn’t targeted towards anyone in particular i promise (because it’s half the fics oh my god)

if you go to your fic, hit edit, then scroll down a bit, where ao3 asks for the chapter count you just have to put a question mark. or the number of chapters if you’ve planned it far enough in advance. set it to multiple chapters if there are multiple chapters.

it’s such a nothingburger thing to complain about but also i usually prefer to filter by completed fics only because i want to read things all in one sitting and it’s so annoying trying to find the fics that are ACTUALLY completed even after filtering

oh and another note don’t post your placeholders?? it’s against ao3 tos guys 😭😭 if a chapter isn’t done dont post it until it’s done !!! back your stuff up on google docs or something don’t draft your fics directly on ao3

fics asking for ideas for fanfiction with no content are against tos!! posting placeholders saying you’re going to write the fic later is against tos!!!

ao3 is an ARCHIVE. not a social media site. i love seeing young people get involved in fandom but please learn the rules. posting your fics before you have anything written isn’t building hype or whatever you think it’s doing in fact it’s burying your fic when you do eventually write it 😭 please save that shit for wattpad or quotev or something
